IRC: #/tpg/ on irc.rizon.net

Other business laptops are also welcome in /tpg/ (e.g. Dell Latitude/Precision, HP EliteBook/ZBook).
----
If you're looking for purchase advice, READ THE BUYERS GUIDE FIRST. Then post, stating budget and requirements (e.g. size and performance).
Don't buy anything OTHER THAN T, X AND W/P SERIES if you want the Real ThinkPad Experience™

Recommended models:
T420 - 14", normal size
X220 - 12.5", ultraportable
----
Why ThinkPad? (also applies to other business laptops)
>Used machines are plentiful and cheap.
>Excellent keyboards - tactile feel and quiet.
>Great durability: chassis uses a magnesium rollcage for structural integrity, with high quality plastic body panels.
>Utilitarian design: e.g. indicator LEDs, 7 row keyboard layout on older models.
>Docking stations that easily turns your laptop into a desktop.
>Easy to repair, upgrade and maintain thanks to readily available service manuals for every model. Spare parts are easy and cheap to obtain.
>The best trackpoint (that red thing in the middle of the keyboard). Great for those who type a lot or hate swiping their fingers all over a touchpad.
>Excellent GNU/Linux & *BSD support.

Should I update the Management Engine firmware on an x201, or this going to cuck the laptop even more? What about the regular BIOS (which is only slave to the iME) update?

With the way AMD has been gimping their cards recently, how long until the 480 starts beating the fury x?

When Vulkan and dx12 are in every game. Already happened in AAA
>>
>>57690227

Not sure what I should be looking at here.

The 480 was made for the mass market, so they targeted 1080p monitors, and this is where the 480 performs best at. also notice the minimum frame rate, that's more important than maximum. something that the 390a dn 390x hover over the 480

Now looking at the fury line, they were fucked over hard due to process, they rely on vulcan and dx12 to preform as good as they should have been.

but looking at this chart, what in the actual fuck is happening at the high end? pretty much everything from fury to 1070 is the same fps... on dx 11 that shouldn't happen. lets take amd out of this why are 3 different cards almost matching each other on nvidia's side?

something is going on under the hood in this game

I did that. I need to figure out how the hell did he know it in the first place and what can I do to prevent it from happening again. I have no idea how would a guy from a country far away get access to it. Only way I can think of is that some keylogger or something must've registered it.

Hi /g/.
I need a laptop for school that must have Windows in it (Win 7 or +), good battery life and a great build quality. I don't want wobbly chink shit...
Budget is not a problem but common sense tells me that speding over $500 for a laptopis ridiculous.

Is 4K on a laptop screen worth it? Isn't it too small to tell the difference?

4k is a meme

2k is more than enough for literally anything below 50 inch screens
>>
>>57710899
But are you going to settle for ''more than enough'' when you can tap into the full power of 4K entertainment?

Is it the kind of life you want to live?
>>
>>57710899
Except it depends on how close you are sitting to said screen
You can tell the difference between 2k 4k and 1080 when you are two feet away from a monitor

Help me, /g/. I am running Windows 8.1. My PC randomly started acting strange. I haven't made any hardware or software changes.

Restarts after the Windows boot logo with different BSOD messages. Sometimes it boots fine but then it freezes after a few minutes and restarts.

I have run Windows memtest (is it even reliable) and it says memory is fine. What could it be?

So basically "Spectrum" or "Time Warner Cable" fixed this shit Tuesday and I had 30 MBPS DL and roughly 20 MBPS like normal, now we're back to this and have been since 9 EASTERN.

What fucking gives? All my hardware appears sound, cycled my router and fucking went through session after session with tier 3s who remotely did shit to my router that MARGINALLY improved my issue.

>>
were they able to remotely check your snr? does your modem provide your snr? maybe you have an intermittent cable line? have you had any techs out? any construction in your neighborhood?
>>
This is normal practices by the big ISP's. Basically they fix your internet for you temporarily then it reverts back to crap tier, they hope you won't notice.

Friend lives in a neighborhood with fiber and to my surprise they all had slow internet peaking out at 12Mbps despite paying for 50Mbps or in some cases 100Mbps and everyone's mindset was "Oh well, I can't be assed calling them up" except for my friend who called them up and surprise, surprise they got him to go to speedtest and suddenly his internet was showing 94Mbps (close enough to his 100Mbps) but two days later it returned to the lousy 8 to 12 Mbps.
>>
you're worse than those apple faggots for assuming your internet is supposed to magically work. it's not just your provider that can cause problems. piss me right off.

so I have a oneplus3, running android 7.1

I've edited build.prop so it basically thinks its a Pixel and for all intents and purposes may as well be

However the google play store still claims its incompatible. So I got the apks of Daydream as well as google VR services. Daydream now claims that I must update google VR services, although I have the latest build.

I don't even need to get daydream working, just to get the controller working would be cool...
