Why is the Linux kernel written in C and not Assembly?
>>59941587
Because Linus isn't an autist
>>59941587
C is portable.
He wanted it to be run on many architectures.
>>59941587
Linus is a nigger-tier programmer, he has not even finished writing his compiler yet and got beat by Stallman.
Yo waddup /g/ I just bought this laptop, is this thing any good or what?

give it back, jamal

Fruity Loops will work fine on it. You can create as much Rap trash as you want.
whats wrong with lenovo? why dont they make their charging port round?
will ((( they ))) come to get me if I get a phone that unlocks with my fingertip?
Legally (((they))) can force you to unlock it with your fingerprint. But with a password they need to get a warrant.
Pretty smart way to have you register your fingerprint, don't think it's out of the realm of possibility there's a database for all of these in the US
Lets remember folks, your body -DNA, fingerprint, eye scan thingie etc- can NEVER contain your password. Your mind is the only place for the password.
Damn! That's gonna be one sexy phone! Here's the renderings from the chinese supply chain leaks.
Do you like it, /g/?

Embedded in the display. Samsung will have something similar for the Note 8.
We have new version of ubuntu today. But thread is not about. Basic system has a lot of telemetry and pre-installed software with remote control and access risks. This script can to clean up some problems.

Pull requests are welcome

kindly kick yourself in the face. Do a 3 line check if the script is ran as root (directly or with sudo) or not and then just run the commands.
>>59941485
it is not a good way too, because, when script works from root too long - in this time something can be executed with the same privilegies (root).
I am not sure, that some users will use sudo instead of "su to root", my way is 100% gives sudo way here.
Anyway, you can edit the script
>>59941401
what telemetry and remote control software?
what a load of bullshit

please discuss minimum cost of programming for this ... buy chip only? how much $ .. any software runs on it? only 'C'? says 'can program in C for it'. instructions don't even include divide. Interested. What wattage.
>>59941119
32 bit
>>59941119
You can program one cheaply using GCC which has supported ARMs for a long time.
Divide is not important, 6502 had neither multiply nor divide or even addition without carry. That was still enough to make the world's first spreadsheet, in less than 64 KB RAM.

What image viewer does /g/ use? I use Viewnior since it's the only image viewer besides the heavy GwenView I've found where you can push a number key to scale it in a way fitting for viewing pixelart. It has unfortunetly not had a new version since 2015 though.
Irfanview

My own fork of jpegview.
sxiv, but I have feh to set wallpapers.

Can't wait for AT&T to deploy 4.1G then hype it as 5G then doing it again with 4.5G as 6G at which point ITU will be forced to relabel 5G as 7G.
Why can I not stop distro-hopping? I spend all day yesterday installing Arch despite being almost a complete noob to Linux and now that I have it at a good starting point to customize it the way I want my system to be I'm getting the urge to wipe it all and install Debian, or Fedora, or something else. My thinking is that it would be easier to use another distro to get my computer how I want it to be but I know that in reality it would probably take more time than just finding the fix for something in Arch. Why can't things just werk, or why can't there be a guide of things normal, non-autistic users would want to do after installing? It seems like every little thing ends up being an issue.
just multi-boot all of them you autist.
>normal, non-autistic users
It wouldn't apply to you.
>>59940844
Maybe install them in a virtual machine could be a good start for your disto-hopping problem
What are /g/'s thoughts on Elon Musk? Do you think he has positively influenced technology? My roommate seems to treat him like the second coming
He gets almost religious with some of the things he says but overall he has been a net benefit.
>>59940628
he's like steve jobs in that he steps on the stage presenting the work of thousands of engineers as his brain child or something
Hey guys I got a new graphics card that uses an 8 pin connector but I only had two 4 pin connectors so I converted it to 8 pin using these adapters.
It boots and works fine I'm just wondering why people pay for big power supplys if you can just do this.
It's a housefire
>>59940602
>>59940609
Depends how power hungry the GPU is.
>>59940602
Because people aren't poor and have power supplies that were built within the last five years.
I don't even think people use molex anymore.
I'm thinking of purchasing a used explore xc6 that's still in good condition. Do any of you own one of these or have used them. It will have windows 10 installed. So what is your input /g/?
Also I'm paying 500 bucks
Wouldn't a used toughbook be more cost effective?
>>59940465
But why?
