Can't wait for AT&T to deploy 4.1G then hype it as 5G then doing it again with 4.5G as 6G at which point ITU will be forced to relabel 5G as 7G.

such a shame nokia fucked themselves up so badly though

Is all this bandwidth really necessary? What the hell are people doing with their phones? 4K 60fps Facebook streams of their sushi meal arriving?

Currently paying 40€/month for unlimited texts, calls and internet with max. speed of 300Mbit/s. Feels good to live in a third world country like Finland.

What a waste, I spend like $9 on my monthly data plan and still have a few GB leftover the next month.

Man, I live in fucking Wales, I'm lucky to have GPRS 2G, i've never fucking seen 4G.

Unlimited data plan as well (Slovenia, 30europoors/mo).

Well it's like 20 bucks a month for 40Mbit/s, I just want to watch my 4K porn while I seed and leech like a whore from Turku.

10euro unlimited in Finland
>>
>>59941450
The only internet I have at my house is the cheapest available 4G connection with 50Mbs download and a similar upload with no limits. The latency is very tolerable even in online gaming and the bandwidth much better than ADSL ever provided or can currently provide here. Also with ADSL I would be vendor locked and having a fiber installed would be qutie costly.

I firmly believe that in a country as sparsely (for the most part) populated as Finland and with such drastic weather differences during the year mobile internet technologies are the way of the future.

Well, too bad. Lets hope the ISP level NAT and the router firewall are enough to protect me.

Forgot to mention that my modem-router setup really isn't ideal, but I do live near a tower so at least the signal is good. Also at least on my carrier the IPv4 addresses are NATted at the ISP level and getting a static 4G IPv4 costs a couple of euros a month extra.

The important question everyone should be asking is: how much bandwidth does a single 5G tower have and how many sectors is it split up into?

As far as I know a 4G tower has ~100 Mbps of total bandwidth shared between 3 sectors.

Those 1 gbps peak download speeds are unicorns if the towers don't even have a total bandwidth of at least 100 gbps.
>>
any brainlet here who can explain what is that big little difference between 4G and 5G that makes it achieve that latency

Just marketing.

>"The LTE specification provides downlink peak rates of 300Mbit/s, uplink peak rates of 75Mbit/s andQoSprovisions permitting a transferlatencyof less than 5msin theradio access network."

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/LTE_(telecommunication)#Overview

LTE was said to have single digit ms latency but we never got it. It can surpass 100ms in low signal areas. Generally stays around 20-40ms if you have good reception though.

Anyway we can reasonably expect 5G to have better latency across all distances from the tower. Maybe like 10ms average with good reception, hopefully.

>5gb data for 55.99 a month

FUCK ME DEAD!!!

I use that in a day in Finland. I stream Netflix and play games through my unlimited data 4G home network for €10 a month.
>>
>>59940911
5G is going to be shit because of how vulnerable to interference it is.
There will be relatively few areas where you can get good connections.
>>
>>59943073
I think you missread that, it's 55.99 for the Google pixel with texts calls and 5gb a month, i didn't buy the phone it's on contract, i pay 55.99 a month for 2 year's then can upgrade or cancel it

Also my home broadband is unlimited, i use my home broadband all the time apart from when i go out and that's rarely, so the 5gb data is just for googling shit and WhatsApp when I'm out walking to uni or my freinds house which both have free WiFi anyway

I just checked the GSM carriers here in the US and unlimited 4G is $55 on T-Mobile (HD video blocked, 3G hotspot/teather only, threat of throttling at anytime), AT&T unlimited 4G is $60 (HD video blocked, no hotspot/teather, throttled after 22GB). Neither offers an unlimited data-only plan.

Cucked by capitalism.
>>
>>59943460
wireless spectrum is limited.
There is only so much spectrum to go around and so many users per tower as well.

It would be very easy to saturate a tower with only a handful of users downloading/streaming HD video
>>
>>59943508
Finland and Slovenia must be magical places. There's just no way T-Mo and AT&T could ever have enough backhaul...
>>
>>59942174
latency is mostly caused by software processing/hardware delays. Since hardware is getting faster, I think it's perfectly possible to archieve 1ms latency with 5G

>people worrying about 100ms as bad latency

I'm waiting for 6g or 7g to make latency low enough to play vidya, for now I'll just be happy if 5g drives the costs down of the networks, monthly costs, etc.
4G is already great in my country and that's saying a lot (Argentina is shit in telecoms, we still have single digits in broadband speeds in many zones)

Fucking this.

Austria here. You can get unlimited 4G for like 20€ here but at times where everyone is online (evenings and weekends) speeds will fall to 3-5 Mbps simply because the networks can't keep up anymore, even in rural areas.

And that is despite people hardly using a lot of data, one mobile ISP here said that average data usage for users of unlimited plans is around 50 GB.
