What does /g/ think about this?
IMO:
>good way to learn basics of computer hardware
>entry level work in Linux
>extremely versatile
>low price

Yeah, you missed the key point where you play with it for a week and then put it in the drawer and never look at it again.

hey /g/, any idea how to play legal blu rays on a pc?
29 posts and 1 images submitted.
>>
Buy a bluray player, install VLC.
>>
>>59958084
Please buy a certified intel(R) system and drink a verification can to activate the 4K stream.
>>
>>59958084
I rip my Blu-ray collection, encode them to make them smaller without sacrificing quality, and just use VLC. By default blurays are encrypted, so there are no known players I know of to play them straight from disc.

So, somebody already found workaround for keep using updates on newer hardware.
https://www.ghacks.net/2017/04/18/bypass-for-windows-update-lock-for-modern-processors-found/
direct link to repo - https://github.com/zeffy/kb4012218-19

Does anybody has a chance to test this?

This will work great until a genuinely incompatible update comes along, bricks the OS, and forces you to use system restore, track down the offending update and remove it.
>>
>>59958165
> genuinely incompatible update
Incompatible with hardware you mean (cpu/chipset)? Very unlikely, and even if true people will read about this on wednesday/thursday (after patch tuesday) and be prepared I guess.

I don't understand.
Is Ryzen/Kabylake worse on W7/8.1?
Such as when utilized in a gaym benchmark, Cinebench, and CPU stresstest?
Also do BIOS updates still work?
I just assume that the risk is that viruses/malware will be easier to allow in since no updates or something I think...

I'm having this annoying problem with my new ASUS laptop

>Windows 10
>ASUS GL553VE-DS74
>Installed latest ASUS Precission touchpad driver
>Windows 10 detects touchpad as the default HiD Mouse in Device Manager and installs said generic driver
>Uninstalling that shitty driver does nothing, because Windows simply reinstalls it and says it's the best driver for my device
>Touchpad icon doesn't appear in the system tray
>Fn+F9 doesn't activate/deactivate touchpad
>ROG Gaming Center tells me it can toggle touchpad, but nothing is actually happening

Nobody on the internet seems to have a solution for this. What should I do? Has anyone ever got an ASUS touchpad working?

Inb4 uninstall Windows 10

Ironically I'm going through the same problem in a different Asus laptop.

I just disabled windows 10 driver auto update.

And took a break. I'll be back with more information.

I have a G75VW and since Win10 the keyboard backlight hasn't worked except on boot.

>decide to try out I2P for the hell of it
>download speeds top out at 25 KB/s
>it isn't abnormal to have download speeds drop to 16 KB/s or sometimes below 7 KB/s
>despite this, developers of websites made to be viewed over I2P insist on modern styled sites including megabytes of oversized images that need to be scaled down for the page, resulting in their sites taking minutes to load
>the only torrents available for the anime I used as a test are 1080p resulting in 500+ MB episodes and seasons that can take a week to download, and that's if you can keep a constant good connection instead of dropping to an average download speed of 1.2 KB/s over the past 13 hours
What the fuck is wrong with these people? Why isn't shit on I2P designed to actually be usable on the low bandwidth connection that the network provides?

Pic related is for anyone who thinks I'm exaggerating about the torrent speeds.

>>59957890
That doesn't mean that the sites on the network can't be optimized for the lower download speeds. Using a ton of 1080x600 images that are then scaled down to 540x300 on a site that's intended to be loaded over a very low bandwidth connection makes no sense whatsoever.

Looking to see something that isn't expected to break in 2 months honestly, looks perfect otherwise
>>
>>59957444
Had mine for two years, it's my everyday carry player. Not sure why you think it'll break easily?

Fair enough if you're adverse to buying chinese stuff, I can understand the stigma as most of it is complete trash that either breaks the first time you use it or arrives broken to begin with. You are missing out on a lovely little device though.

What are /g/s thoughts on 21:9?

I'm conflicted. Part of me likes the novelty and the other part things it'll wear off if I ever got on and I'll just be part of a meme

Bump for interest

Been looking at 2560*1440 or 4K as main and a 1080p in portrait

Anyone using a 21:9 3440*1440 instead of a dual monitor setup?

ditched my dual setup of p2715q (4K IPS), 34um95 (non curved 60hz 1440p), dual qx2710 (100hz PLS 1440p) and a bunch of shit tier TN 4k korean monitors until i got my M340CLZ (21:9 1440 @ 100hz VA) that came without dead/stuck pixels.

Pretty much a sweetspot between pixel density, curvature and refresh rate. First monitor i consider using more than a year.

>Emphasis is added: unnecessarily gendered code is discriminatory and condescending, and reading biased code isn't enjoyable.

>Instances of the phrases “he or she”, “his/hers”, “(s)he”, etc. All of these still exclude those who don't identify with either gender, and implicitly (slightly) favor one gender via listing it first.

>“Guys” as a gender-neutral term, which has male associations. Usually in comments it implies anthropomorphism of inanimate objects and should be replaced with a more precise technical term. If it does refer to people, consider using “everyone”, “folks”, “people”, “peeps”, “y'all”, etc.
