What does /g/ use as an ipod alternative?

I'm looking for something with microsd expandability and a regular headphone jack. maybe even bluetooth (not necessary)
>>
Ruizu X02 flased with the AGPtek A02 1.7 firmware.

Cheap, Durable, Simple dragndrop system, Excellent battery life, FLAC playback if that's your thing.

Head over to /csg/ if you need more info.
>>
>>59957339
Looking to see something that isn't expected to break in 2 months honestly, looks perfect otherwise
>>
>>59957444
Had mine for two years, it's my everyday carry player. Not sure why you think it'll break easily?

Fair enough if you're adverse to buying chinese stuff, I can understand the stigma as most of it is complete trash that either breaks the first time you use it or arrives broken to begin with. You are missing out on a lovely little device though.
>>
Basically very few good MP3 players are made today except in China. Fiio is probably a good kinda "premium" option.

Some options:

old iPod with rockbox (mini works, most of the "classic" line works, at least) (yeah you asked for an iPod alternative but there's no reason to reject this option because of the logo)

Cowon players if you can find good ones. I had a D2 for years and it was absolutely wonderful: 50 hours battery life when new so it didn't even matter when it got a little worse with time

Sandisk Sansa players, the Clip/Clip+ and the Fuze that supported rockbox

xDuoo x3
2x 126GB micro sd
Aluminium body
>>
>>59958153
How good is it?
>>59957485
Just youtube comments and amazon reviews saying it was cheaply build. Might end up trying the xDuoo or this. not sure yet.
>>
Why does it have to not be an iPod? They're the best PMPs.
>>
>>59958653
i don't want to pay 400 for a 128gb music player that comes bloated with shit i will never use

i just want to play music off of. Also itunes is aids
>>
>>59958679
You don't have to. Cost me $70 for my 120GB Classic with an SSD and I don't need iTunes for it.
>>
>>59958701
I'd rather much buy one of the mps listed above then buy an ipod from 10+ years back
>>
>>59958723
Your loss.
>>
>>59958653
>They're the best PMPs.
Which model do you have, if it's one of the post wolfson DACs I'm going to laugh in your fucking face and the wolfsons weren't that good to begin with.

>I dunno, s'got n apple on it!
>>
>>59958755
>>59958755
5th gen Classic, it has a Wolfson DAC. I never said they had the best DACs though.
>>
>>59957305
get an ipod classic and mod it
you can put an SSD, bigger HDD, CompactFlash and even use rockbox.
>>
>>59958817
OP doesn't want an iPod because ewww an Apple logo
>>
>>59958817
where and how. ive looked into opening a classic and it looks like a nightamre, and soldering is required. i have one to try this on, but whats a good reliable/accurate source of info
>>
>>59958830
Where did I say that? I specifically noted that the current ones are too expensive, and the old ones are probably not worth it

>>59958817
Is this actually viable? I'd be down to do this if I got a good MP out of it
>>
>>59958846
>soldering is required
lolnope
I've opened my old one once before i lost it to change the HDD, it's hard but managable, you just gotta separate the front from the back, there's no solder.
>>
>>59957339
Make sure you backup the exe tool that converts amv video to 128x160, I accidentally lost mine now I can only convert 120x160.

Soldering is not required.
>crack iPod open
>disconnect ZIF IDE HDD
>insert new storage in ZIF IDE adapter
>snap iPod back together
>reinstall firmware
Literally takes 10 minutes, a 12 year old could do it.

>>59958854
Very viable, I literally just suggested it and you whined about not wanting to go that route.
>>
Sansa Clip Zip with Rockbox. I'd use my Fuze v1 but the wheel stopped working with it.

And here's a modded Mini, another nice choice.
>>
>>59958554
I have this one almost 9 months, it has few scratches, droped it few times on hard floor and it's still working. I don't need to take it out of my pocket to change volume or song. The buttons are kinda rattling but it's not a problem. Probably will need to install rockbox on this.
>>
I use a Sansa Clip+, was looking at the FiiO X1
>>
>>59958887
I don't watch videos on my X02 because I don't see the point but you could use Xmedia recode to do that i'm sure.
>>
I got a used LG K7 for 25 bucks and put a 64GB card in it.
>>
Just use any phone that isn't shit.
>>
iPod Classic w/ Rockbox
Modified to support dual SD cards
Dual 128g SD cards

Works perfect but expensive
>>
>>59957305
clip+ with rockbox and I have secured a spare for the future when it breaks
>>
>>59957589
Can double recomend Cowon, I've had the Z2 for going on 6 years now, planning on buying another one before they become rareware.
>>
>>59959602
I should do it too. They're a really great brand; their software is generally so good (file format support, drag and drop, folder browse) that I wouldn't even particularly desire Rockbox on them.

My D2 broke when I fell by slipping on some ice and the fucker landed straight on a puddle of water.

Are there any good players with blue/white OLEDs? I have an old one of these, and the color/luminosity is super comfy to me, but I can't find anything like it that's affordable.
>>
>>59959658
>Look up Z2 thanks to reminder
>It's stripped from Cowon's website
>It's 'permently unavailable' on Amazon
>Not even on Ebay
>Madmen at Cowon released a M2, half the size and shit reviews
Truly being a patrician is suffering
>>
Thought's on xduoo 2
>>
>>59959004
>Xmedia recode
I watched a few movies while tripping, so I like to have them going in the background while working throughout the day on other things, for some reason it helps with thought flow.
>>
>>59961753
Holy fuck man, I just looked into this.

AMV is a fucking rabbit hole I'm not sure I want to go down, is there a single fucking legit conversion tool for this format out there?

Every link, every video, every reference either goes to a dead site or a fake download.

Jesus christ no wonder you said back it up. I'm afraid I don't have it, if I did I would get it to you ASAP for your troubles. Christ.
>>
>>59962390
Looks like you can use ffmpeg to do it.
>>
>>59957305
For hard button ones, Fiio is the best
>>
>>59962411
ffmpeg -i file.avi -s 160x128 -ac 1 -ar 22050 -qmin 3 -qmax 3 file.amv

should work right? It's throwing errors for me.
"Unable to find suitable output format"

Oh well, doesn't matter I suppose.
>>
>>59962668
From the article I was looking at you need to convert to wmv first. It seems unnecessary but I ran into a similar issue with converting avi to mkv, I had to convert to mp4 then to mkv

ffmpeg -i "to-be-converted.mp4" -qscale 2 -vcodec msmpeg4 -acodec wmav2 wmv-converted.wmv
ffmpeg-amv -i "wmv-converted" -f amv -s 160x120 -r 16 -ac 1 -ar 22050 -qmin 3 -qmax 3 converted.amv

Bought a FiiO X1 a little while back, can carry an SD up to 128gb, real premium feeling despite being cheap enough (£80) nice menus, great sound (compared to a rockbox'd Clip and an old Samsung MP3 player if that helps) Battery could be better but even then I rarely charge the thing and listen to it daily.
>>
>>59963168
>up to 128GB
If it can support a 64GB card it can support a 2TB card

I got a FiiO M3. It's okay. I don't use it as much as I'd thought because I don't wanna be lugging around good headphones everywhere so I got some earbuds and they are actually pretty good it's just that I don't like the whole ear-dildo aspect to them.
