There's CPU1 for $200 and lets say it's relative performance is 80%
Then there's CPU2 for $350 and relative performance of 90%

The consumer will buy the CPU2 even though it's smarter to buy CPU1 based on price performance ratio.
Doesn't really matter to them if it's quad core, octacore or dualcore, aslong as it's the best they can afford in performance.
