>take the gnu operating system
>write a shit package manager for it
>release the gnu operating system with your shity package manager
>call it debian, gentoo, arch linux, red hat
Why people do this? Why we need n+1 variants of the same operating system with different package manager?
excuse me sweaty but an operating system isn't an operating system without a kernel ;)
>>60768226
um....sweety...something needs to manage the hardware and do other...ya know....kernel level stuff. GNU is just userspace stuff.

Program to organize music and/or other files on os x?
over the years ive had backups, restores, losses of files, replaced, and duplicates of files and I want to consolidate them and remove duplicates. I know itunes can find duplicates but last time i did that you had to manually delete each of them. is there a good program out there that finds duplicates and deletes them?
Legit tech question, /g
I have a raspberry pi 3 and I have put kali linux on it. I want to use an adafruit pitft screen, but I read that that I have to download a kernel for it to work. I hooked up the raspberry pi (with the pitft screen on it) to a computer monitor and kali runs fine. I tried downloading a kernel and when I reboot, it gave me a rainbow death screen (for not enough power). I think the kernel I used (adafruit_pitft_kernel_1.20150420-1) is old. I don't know why else it wouldn't work on reboot.
Any tech gurus on here, I'd really appreciate some help.
bumping for advice

Just use the regular OS for the PiTFT and install from source, the stuff you need.
On a side note, what are you using the screen for? Just use a laptop and ssh into it over wifi.
>>60767905
kali is for usb pen drives, thats why its called a pentesting distro

My VPS:
LAMP (Centos7, MariaDB)
postfix + dovecot for mail
fail2ban
spamassassin

rainloop webmail
nextcloud
letsencrypt certificates

using Nextcloud Apps for Calendar, Contacts and Notes, which lets me sync them with my android phone
all in all I have 4 users so far (mother, sister, stepfather), hoping to increase the number by 4 (3 aunts, 1 step-aunt) and get everyone to pay for the ~12€ a month it costs. The server has 300GB storage, 2GB RAM and 2Ghz CPU.
I'm quite happy with setting it all up, took me almost 2 weeks of sporadic working to set up the mail server, everything else was rather easy afterwards.
Just added 4TB to my home server. Feels good.
>>60767977
what do you store on it? So far I haven't found a good excuse for having a dedicated home server, I just connect my usb hard drives to my router and it serves the content via smb, which I already hardly need.

find a CVE you like, then github/google it's source code
Just bought this router the other day at a yard sale for like $5. Guy had no idea what it was, called it an "internet drive". Powers on and the web settings are accessible without any problem.
How is this router for the basic shit, like gaming, some torrenting, and keeping a hard drive connected for backups?
Is the stock firmware fine? Or should I load third party shit into it (although, I can't find any clear documentation on getting any firmwares loaded on it).
For comparison, I'm using an Apple Time Capsule (5th gen) as my main router.
What the fuck do I do now? They never came to my front door nor did they leave a notice. I really needed that 4790k today
