Yes and no. Will it qualify you to be a bench tech at Fry's? Yes. Will it set you on a course for working in IT and growing in that field? No. You will get bored of fixing computers very quickly it is no different than being a janitor or waiter.

I would just try to get a desktop support job through a head hunter, and don't worry about certs. Work a few shitty helpdesk jobs, volunteer to be some sysadmins lackey or do some of the physical networking. IT is nothing like what people talk about here or what certs will teach you. It is a job spent hunting down devs to fix their CRUD, wading through vendor and MSP lies, and making changes no one asked for because no one bothers to think ahead.

If I could do it over again, I would not get my A+, or my Net+ for that matter, but they were fairly cheap, not too hard to get, and they were a nice side note on my resume.

desktop support is dead. its cheaper to buy new pcs than to hire you, involves less risk and time too.

don't give up though. get your feet wet in different areas of IT, maybe you'll grow a fascination with something. fascination and motivation is the key to $$$ in IT (next to social skills).

I have no idea if this is the sort of topic that's acceptable here. If it isn't, apologies, let the thread die.
I'm looking to get a programming job in the Atlanta area. I've got about 1 year's professional experience in programming/med IT, and knowledge of Java, Javascript, PHP, Ruby (Rails), SQL and a bit of C#. I've heard C# is king around here, and was wondering if anyone had good resources to practice it with. Other career/portfolio advice is welcome as well.

Running Windows 7. Both the online and offline installer for the latest version of Java won't launch. They show up in the Processes tab of the Task Manager but never actually run. Any ideas on how to fix this?

I've combed through numerous threads on tech support forums but short of reinstalling Windows, I haven't found a solution yet and would prefer to not reinstall my OS

How come so few TorrentFreak articles have comments? They crank out so many quality articles, and they're pretty well-known, yet there's hardly a community around it. What does this say about the number of visitors the site has?

Some articles have hundreds of comments, they probably disable them, having to register on some third party site to comment doesn't help either. They should just add a good captcha and remove that embedded shit.
Now that I think about it, in the past some of TF editors were biased towards supporting MAFIAA so it might be that they lost some credibility too.
