not trying to license shitpost or anything, but a lot of large companies--especially in the tech industry--gravitate towards BSD/MIT licensed software/infrastructure for the fact that said licenses permit the integration of proprietary software under rather lenient circumstances such as giving credit to the software maker or just providing the source code for the software these companies borrowed. GNU/Linux and other GPL-licensed software--especially when it comes to GPL3--forces a lot of compromise for companies, which generates friction apprehension towards the prospect of investment.

What tends to happen is that these companies will invest in the BSD's--most notably, Free and Open, and also OpenIndiana, even though the latter-most isn't a BSD image. Corporations, although not to the degree that GPL projects enjoy, may even send some open-sourced software upstream. Many of the fBSD commiters are in fact being paid by other companies in order to maintain fBSD in such a way that it is favorable--or, at least tolerable--for that company. Don't be mistaken, though; the fBSD project has its own principles, and they won't be steered towards the interest of any one company--especially if the company uses proprietary software.

For that reason, the BSD's, if useful, cannot die, because there is a corporate interest to ensure that they stay alive. This benefits everyone, because corporations get their free-as-in-gratis software, and the BSD projects get to remain sovereign and, in their minds, morally pure.

I got a Hacked Xbox 360 and an external HDD with almost all its games, or at least the most relevant. It's 10 years old now. I don't use the DVD reader. So how many more years do you think it's gonna last? Which gonna fall apart first? The processor, motherboard or the HDD?

For anyone who has a job programming

1) What is the most stressful part of being a computer programmer?
2) What do people think you do vs what you actually do?
3) How do you deal with the stress of your job?
4) How did you get your foot in the door of the world of programming?
5) Who are the hardest people to deal with in your job?

I quit programming but here is myexperience:

>1) What is the most stressful part of being a computer programmer?
Persistent bugs, especially close to deadlines. Once I was nearly shipped off along with the equipment when the deadline approached. I killed the bug as they wrapped the equipment in plastic for shipping.

>2) What do people think you do vs what you actually do?
bash keyboards and drink coffee vs. think hard and drink tea. I used to drink chocolate once but the bathroom scales complained.

>3) How do you deal with the stress of your job?
You don't. You live with it and debug code in your dreams. We had 6 months crunch times and you worked day and nigh, 7 days a week.

>4) How did you get your foot in the door of the world of programming?
Back then you needed only a pulse to qualify.

>5) Who are the hardest people to deal with in your job?
Customers with no realistic view on what is possible and sales people who promise the impossible. One place I worked at tanked after the sales team killed us with an impossible task. They got a bonus. We lost out jobs.

Moto e4 vs moto g4 play
Which one of these should I buy? I'm going to impulse buy one of these tomorrow but I'm not sure which one to go for. I think I will go with the moto e4 since it was just released and has the same specs.

I just bought a G4 play to replace my moto E, it's the only remaining model without a fingerprint scanner and supposedly getting 7.1 updates RSN. The moto E was a nice phone but I cracked the screen when I was drunk. The only downfall with it was only 1G of RAM which turned out to really be a chore, and 2G in the G4 fixes that.

I suppose a new E model would be OK but I got the G4 on closeout for cheap, get one while you can.

Recommend me a laptop for playing League of Legends for under £400 please

>1080p
>8GB+ RAM
>15.6"+

So far the only one I've found is this, and it's £500
>https://www.tesco.com/direct/asus-x556ub-dm262t-core-i3-8gb-128gb-ssd-nvidia-940m-2gb-win-10-156-dark-blue-laptop/682-1347.prd?skuId=682-1347
I'm also worried the i3-6100U will bottleneck the FPS hard. The 128GB SSD is also rather trash, 250GB+ is most likely required.

This girl I know wants to get a new laptop to play League, so I'm trying to help her out. But she's poor af and I've never explored low-end hardware so I don't know what I'm doing

Why 1080p. Why 8 gigs. You could get a decent laptop thats 1280x900 or smth with 4 gigs of ram and play that pile of shite of a game on max settings. Or get the 15,6"+ with 4 gigs and 1080p and play on less than ultra. I don't see the problem.

Because it's 2x the pixels of 720p and looks a hell of a lot nicer

So you can use Youtube, Skype and league all at the same time without having to worry about your ram

Hi
I am a graphic designer, in the last years I am working more and more on packaging design but I have been always working on 2D simple vector designs, now I need to learn a software to create 3D renders of packaging design but also I need to by a laptop good enough to do those 3D design.

Here is the question: what should I buy?

I have been designing on Mac since 10 years ago but I am not sure about the specs on the new MacBook Pro for 3D design, so I was looking into Alienware.

Do you think that the new MacBook Pro is good enough? Is the Alienware 15 (with i7, 16/32 Ram, GTX 1060 or 1070) too powerful for what I need?

Money is not an issue, but I don't want to regret after the investment of a MacBook Pro not good enough but with a familiar interface and good aesthetics nor feel regret for buying an overpowered Alienware that I find ugly and weigh almost 8 pounds.

Thanks for helping

MacBook Pro + https://developer.apple.com/development-kit/external-graphics/

Advance 3D software need modern version OpenGL,using CUDA(only nVidia cards have it) Pixar, video games industry run in workstation windows or Linux with nvidia cards.

Basic 3D software runs fine in Mac OS.
