I got a Hacked Xbox 360 and an external HDD with almost all its games, or at least the most relevant. It's 10 years old now. I don't use the DVD reader. So how many more years do you think it's gonna last? Which gonna fall apart first? The processor, motherboard or the HDD?
the ball grid array solder then HDD

Ex-Xbox repair guy here
The GPU / CPU solder balls will most likely crack first due to thermal stress, if your console isn't X-Clamp fixed, but if it didn't die in the last 10 years with gaming load it won't die anyway to it (Maybe you have one of the newer revision, for example Jasper?)
Otherwise maybe the Power Brick, capacitors can give out in any circuit after years of usage.
The DVD drive is also a big error source but you aren't using it anyway.
External HDDs are cheap anyway and you can substitute the internal HDD with a usb stick for savegames.
Install Gentoo.

RGH a 360 S console while you still can. Sell your modded phat, that thing's a timebomb.
You can also temp control the console with faster fan speeds using a modded dash.

Only the later models had an internal hard drive. The originals connected on top. Also, a flash drive can store games now with the newer updates.

I spent a summer refurbishing rrod xboxes off kijiji. I came across a black xbox elite w/ 320gb hdd from a pawn shop for $25. Figured it was worth it at that price. Did the xclamp fix to prolong any life left. Wasn't sure If it was worth paying to chip it at this point since x360 games go for dirt cheap.
Op if you can do the xclamp fix.
