Not really. I have a group of friends in Germany that own a pinball arcade and they're planning to get their own one, given they're not shit at programming and hardware.
One of them told me they're gonna get a Raspberry Pi and basically put it in a cocktail table, with original controllers, too, since they have those as well.

Everyone starts from somewhere and PHP is just as good as anything else. You need to learn the basics from somewhere. Also lots of companies use PHP so there's plenty of comfy well paying work available. I personally am not a fan of the language but then again, I write mainly back-end stuff using JavaScript which some people loathe, sometimes even with a reason. However it's good enough for our use case of thousands of requests per second and fun to develop.

Just do stuff that you like and try to learn something every day.
