Back to reddit with you.
HOO BOY
>own lenovo ideapad z580, bought through newegg
>really happy with it, does everything I need it to do, etc etc
>hard drive starts to fail
>no problem, I got that mofuggin extended warranty
>ship it off to whoever newegg's third party warranty company is
>get it back in like a week with a new HDD
>it originally had windows 8 but comes back with a windows 7 installation that is unactivated
>I have no recovery media because lenovo laptops come with a recovery partition on the drive
>whatever, install ubuntu (inb4 not gentoo), figure I'll just call lenovo and get them to send me the recovery media for like $10 or whatever
>call lenovo
>motherfuckers want $69.99 to send me a windows 8 boot disc and another disc with all the drivers on it
>I can't just use any windows 8 boot disc and my product key because I don't have it, they don't print that shit on the case like they used to
>rep says "So you don't want us to send you the media?"
>"No thanks, I'd rather not buy all this stuff I already bought."
I mean, I obviously knew that all of my shit would be gone, but I didn't know lenovo would charge me $70 to send me that shit. I mean it's not like I need Windows 8, but I was planning on selling this laptop anyways and I know whatever pleb on craigslist wants to buy it will balk if I tell him it has this weird hacker OS called "ubuntu"
>>43258395
I bought a Y50 a few months ago, I looked up previously that lenovo offered windows 7 drivers for the machine so I could drop windows 8 on it
their fucking drivers don't work, none of them work, I called their support and asked why they advertised windows 7 drivers and none of them work, they wanted me to buy a 70 dollar software warranty subscription so they can basically remote desktop into my machine and they wouldn't even warranty a repair, they don't even guarantee they'll fix the problem. They then told me because I installed windows 7 that I can't even buy any warranty because its my fault I tampered with the system when they advertise the machine would work with windows 7
RMA'd that shit through amazon, got my money back and pocketed it instead, fucking lenovo
>>43258395

You brought all of this upon yourself

Does anyone know how to get into a private youtube video and watch it?

Yeah, you can just get around millions of dollars of development with simple script kiddie tricks.
Give me a private video link

>Yeah, I'll have to try shoving some more RAM in it later, but I can't remember if it took proprietary SIMMs or not.
Not proprietary, just picky about memory specs since they have to match the built-in 2MB (80ns & with parity).
The L40SX has 2 slots for 72-pin SIMMS, so you can feed it 2x8MB.
>>43246355
>72 pins
Pretty forward-thinking for 1991. Also you may not necessarily need parity RAM if the BIOS has an option to disable parity checking.
hey /g/ i read that anonymous started on 4chan, are you guys part of anonymous? if so can you teach me how to hack a computer?
install gentoo
>>43264487
we don't care about hacking, the only thing we look for in computers is loli
>>43264520
are you anonymous? also whats gentoo?
Here's the future /g/, in 10 years this is the rig you will be shit posting on.

fuck that, i don't like waving my hands and arms everywhere. I like moving my fingers a few inches and controlling the entire interface. I don't even use a mouse.
>Pet jumps on desk
why does it look like a shitty and inferior version of what we've already got? what's with this trend of making new shit that doesn't reach feature parity with our current setups? why? I want to move to mars and start a colony with people who aren't fucking retards

Are Thinkpad's the greatest laptops ever designed? This is a thinkpad general thread.

(Also, I have two 30-inch Apple Cinema Displays on the way)

Yeah I really like them. Although, I can't really compare them to any other quality headphones considering they're my first proper pair.

>not dropping the deprecated adblockplus for the superior and modern adguard
Why Adguard AdBlocker is better than Adblock or AdBlock Plus?
1. Adguard AdBlocker is really fast and lightweight. It uses half as much memory as other popular solutions: Adblock, Adblock Plus, Adblock Pro, Adblock Premium and other ABP clones.
2. Adguard can handle Anti-AdBlock scripts. You won't have to turn off the AdBlocker anymore to be able to visit the websites that are using such scripts. Just send a complaint to our tech support and we'll handle it.
3. Adguard is simply better looking and modern.

Are piratefags killing torrents as a legitimate file sharing medium? Now people associate torrenting with downloading furry porn and latest episodes of HBO shows.
>>43222769
Yes. Some isps ban or heavily throttle torrents. I have heard of at least one university kicking out (or at least threatening to) anyone they detect using any peer to peer connection.
Honestly, I buy most of what I get through torrents. If I like it, I buy it. I realize everyone says this, but not everybody walks the walk. I feel like this is a good thing, but considering I'm probably the minority, it may be a bad thing. I dunno, not my art/music/movies being downloaded.
many games now download via torrenting
also, i use it whenever i can because it actually supports proper pause/resume without breaking shit
THINKPAD GENERAL
i use a thinkpad T60 for irc, browsing and study. the only thing i dislike about it is its 3 hour battery
and you, /g/?
>>43213947
T410s as my main.
Serious question:
I need legit replies, not just people suggesting whatever model they bought.
- I need a computer for programming, and 2D + SIMPLE 3D game development.
It will also be my main computer:
-Web browsing
-Streaming movies/shows
-Playing 2D games
Programs I will be using -
-Win7 OS (might dual boot with linux)
-Visual Studio 2013 Ultimate
-Android development software
etc.
My Budget is around 250$ including shipping.
What used/ older model thinkpad should I get for this purpose that can handle all of the things listed with ease?
And what specs should I need minimum?
Good idea or a pipe-dream?

He does get a bit passionate, but is his science right?
> If the Solar Roadway science is wrong:
Is it a con, or just a very starry-eyed idea?
Can other sources of power be used to make this possible? (Depending on the country, Wind, Water, even Thermal)
> If the science is right:
Are the people who think the SR is not possible energy company shills?
Will this give as much return as they claim?
Will this work in other countries?
Looking at the 'debunking' videos, it seems pretty condemning, but I don't know electrical engineering.
anyone that has used a solar panel knows that angle is very important.
at best it's a pipe dream, but more likely it's a scam.

>>43202724

>Issues will either be resolved or crush the idea, simple as that
>SR gives more returns than our conventional roadways, so it's worth pursuing, even if the return isn't *as* great as originally mentioned.
Hi /g/, what are you reading?
Oh god, that book was terrible. I was forced to use it in college too with that piece of shit kids IDE BlueJ. THrow it away, dude. And get yourself Head First Java. When you are done, get the Animal book from Oreilly.
You can thank me later.
>>43208796
this is pretty bad too
Teacher is good so it kinda negates the book's problems, but still
>>43208851
lol no, Objects First with Java is probably the best introduction to OOP available for any language. The fact they decided BlueJ as a teaching tools is somewhat unfortunate, but the book is a legit 11/10.
You can use any IDE you want past the first few chapters. BlueJ exists just to keep it as simple as possible for beginners.

Illegitimate thread. The previous one didn't even hit the bump limit.
These are probably the second faggiest type of thread on /g/, behind cyberpunk threads.
At least this is fucking technology related.
