Hey /g/, I'm not very tech inclined and I thought you might explain something to me. Sorry if this is considered shitposting here.

I get that when you delete something from a hard drive it's not really deleted, just that the space is made available for writing over. And I get that to scrub a hard drive you have to write over all this "free" space with nonsense so that nothing is recoverable. But I don't get why multiple passes are required to wipe a drive: why does one pass of writing bullshit over "deleted" data not make said data unrecoverable?

Thanks.

It does. You need a lot of equipment, time and money to recover that data.
>>
>>45076724
But why do multiple passes make it harder? Why isn't once over and it's gone forever?

How hard is it to exploit RPG games? I don't mean botting, I mean like dupe exploits/bugs.
Could be very profitable, but I never found any info on this for some reason...
Also, /g/, how to work around packet encryption if you're developing a bot? IMO it's essential if it's for an FPS game where every ms matters.
General Game bugging/exploitation thread I guess.

[theoric info]

I've heard that you need to RE the game and intercept info you need before they get sent, and after they get decrypted
>>
>>44929997
Usually you just use the games encryptor/decryptor.

A bot for fps games? What for?

>>44930011
that's what I meant, thanks.

Also, I see no reason why devs wouldn't detect a bot playing without the correct client.

"We've arranged a global civilization in which most crucial elements profoundly depend on science and technology. We have also arranged things so that almost no one understands science and technology. This is a prescription for disaster. We might get away with it for a while, but sooner or later this combustible mixture of ignorance and power is going to blow up in our faces."

Do you agree or disagree? Why?

Sounds like he knew what was coming regarding Snowden/NSA and all that jazz. Don't think he was talking about people blowing themselves up with a microwave, the power he refers to is the elite who control everything and the ignorance being the people submitting to surveillance.

I think human civilization via capitalism has shown it's limits, we as apes are so poorly suited for where we need to go next and we've created the ultimate society where the manipulative and wealthy are able to run rampant and control our own government.

I don't necessarily know if this is also the limits of human civilization in all environments, Canada has some promise in science and the US is having happen to it what happened when Islam and the middle east got away from science, it's falling.

People like Bill Nye, Neil Degrasse Tyson and others have seen this and are crying murder, but it may be to late, it's hard to get much of anything done in America and we've lost our hold. Bill did his best at getting people interested in the wonders of what science is, but corporations thrive off the ignorant, and religion nails in the coffin. Sagan warned us about climate change among many other comings that most society ignored.

I wonder how much better off we would be if we had evolved from a species that wasn't a dumb monkey. If the human race survives long enough to evolve into another species we just may master the shortcomings and fact that only 1 out of 9 of us are actually intelligent people who can have great conversations. The rest are mindless drones re hashing out things they have to remember and then forget it all at 23. It also doesn't help that those of us who are intelligent are ridiculed by our peers as nerds, and a social autists. Perhaps if we didn't evolve as a social species we'd be different.

The rest of the intelligent took control and fed on the fact that people are inherently fucking retarded, and now they've killed off our hopes of educating the public.

>WARNING: Using TrueCrypt is not secure as it may contain unfixed security issues

This page exists only to help migrate existing data encrypted by TrueCrypt.

The development of TrueCrypt was ended in 5/2014 after Microsoft terminated support of Windows XP. Windows 8/7/Vista and later offer integrated support for encrypted disks and virtual disk images. Such integrated support is also available on other platforms (click here for more information). You should migrate any data encrypted by TrueCrypt to encrypted disks or virtual disk images supported on your platform.

I need your honest opinion: what's the best programming language for someone who has no experience with programming to start with? Assume a strong tech foundation ( /g/ level) and a good grip on maths.

Haskell.

C. Ignore everyone else, C is the beginner language, if you can't do C you're not going to be a good programmer.

Especially avoid outsider/"different" shit like Python because it'll fuck you up with its fucked up structures and style which will make you suck at other languages.

C or GTFO.

Hey guys,
Just wondering how to reformat my computer.
I have no windows disc
I can't reformat through windows explorer (computer is too clogged up with viruses)
Does this mean i have to reformat through bios and download a pirated copy of windows?
15 posts and 2 images submitted.
>>
>>44782028
You should be able to get a legit iso copy of Windows from MS's site. Then all you need is an activation key.

No piracy required as long as you have your code..... If you don't, you may need to do some piratey shit, but it's pretty easy.
>>
>>44782256
but can i start the reformatting process without windows?
>>
Make a Linux Live CD and reformat with that.

Also please post more of the girl in OP.
