They only cost around $350 and they will outperform many modern macs because they don't use a voltage-starved CPU. Battery life are amazing on these models of ThinkPads, you can get up to 18 hours on the X220 with a 9 cell battery with slice, 15 hours on the T420 with the same battery options.

The stock wi-fi card does not work in Mavericks, so I bought a new one
It doesn't match the BIOS whitelist so the laptop won't start
