>From an MCU exhibit so liekly canon

Apparently each realm is in its own galaxy with a planet or "body" representative of the entire realm.

The MCU is so massive. Thoughts?

John K somehow got the funding to open a new animation studio and produce an entire animated series in the style of 1940s cartoons.

That means that in 2018 we should get an announcement about his new series and it should debut in 2019, if there are no delays.

Get ready for a new golden age of animation in the 2020s.

How's that kickstarter project going?

yo i found some thematic similarities between Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2003 series story arc 'Notes from the Underground' and the book by Dostoyevsky of the same name
not sure if i should post this in /lit/ or here

MODERN UNDERGROUND: SELF-REFLECTION

I used to be a massive fan of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. Still am, to be honest. What’s not to love about four mutated humanoid turtles, named after famous renaissance artists, living in a sewer, acting like teenagers, and being ninja’s on the side? The sheer improbability of the whole thing has always fascinated me. Little did I know, however, that my love for the adventures of the four shell-wearing brothers would ever gain any literary relevance. Until last month, when I downloaded ‘Notes from the Underground’ by Dostoyevsky as an audiobook. Halfway through, I remembered a story arc from the 2003 TMNT series, which is also named ‘Notes from the Underground’. I first thought it was merely a coincidence, but when I watched the episodes again I found quite a lot of thematic similarities between them and the book.

To begin with, a parallel can already be draw between the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and the main character in Dostoyevsky’s ‘Notes from the Underground’. Both live underground. Where the Turtles quite literally live in underground abandoned metro tunnels, the man from Notes from the Underground lives his life alienated from society, in a state of self-inflicted exile that he calls the Underground. Even though the Turtles also live their lives hidden from the society, they have in no way inflicted this exile upon themselves, and are actually very active and optimistic beings. If it were not for the lack of tolerance towards large mutated humanoid turtles, that also happen to be ninjas, they would probably lead very social lives. In this sense, the Turtles are the opposite of the Underground Man.
>>
But let’s get to the actual story arc:

>Donatello is experimenting with two mysterious crystals he found
>At some point Michelangelo starts to pester Donatello and accidentally holds the crystals together
>they start making this strange humming noise, waking up the other Turtles
>the perimeter alarm of the Turtle Lair goes off
>some strange creature has tunneled right through the cement of the sewer, and then vanished
>the Turtles follow the creature underground, taking the crystals with them
>Michelangelo is scared because he sees similarities between the unfolding events and certain monster movie plot-cliché’s, to the great annoyance of Raphael

Dostoyevsky criticizes the idea of utilitarianism, stating that humans above all desire to exercise their free will, and thus will sometimes knowingly do things that will lead them to disaster. Humans, and perhaps Turtles also, can willfully act against their own interest. In relation to this, we can interpret the character of Michelangelo in this episode as a mockery of the ‘rational utilitarian man’ who only follows his own interest. A cliché in monster movies is, after all, that the protagonist makes certain irrational decisions, like going into the basement unarmed while it is clear that the monster is lurking there. Michelangelo is conscious of this, and tries to convince the others that they should not follow this course of action, which sets him apart from the rest.
>>
>in an old metro tunnel the come across a bigger monster that makes the tunnel collapse on them
>they survive and go deeper into the earth, finding a whole underground world

>they come across a Foot genetics lab, where they find out a team of scientists has been working for the Shredder, the arch-enemy of the Turtles, and have been have been experimenting with mutating ordinary humans into outlandish subterranean monsters, designed to track down the Turtles
>the creatures were more intelligent than the scientists thought them to be, and they rebel against their makers
>in a video log, the leading scientist states that ‘perhaps there are things man was never supposed to temper with’
>even when brought under control to some extend using electroshocks, the creatures are, of course, hardly cooperative and do not execute their mission to find the Turtles
>the experiment is shut down and the Shredder ordered the creatures to be destroyed

A skeptical attitude regarding modern science and rationalism is a leading theme in Notes from the Underground, which, as said before, is very critical towards the idea that everything can be brought under control by rationality.

Anyone else get the feeling Aku is bored and depressed since Jack gave up trying to kill him?

He's immortal after all, must be kinda lame to think "huh, I guess I won and this is it" for eternity.

From one interview with Genndy, it sounds more like he's lost all hope of ever killing Jack and has just gotten bored with everything as a result.

Logan huh?
Pros
>X-23 being a lab experiment
>toe claws
>Patrick Stewart
>road trip with superheroes just like OML

Cons
>no real explanation on why mutants are so few. Just a throwaway line
>No on screen version of the Wolverine costume. Not even with X-23 in a final shot. Inb4 it would look dumb
>no "I'm the best there is at what I do etc." Not even on his grave
>no "bubs"
>no final fight with Sabertooth. Should've been the main villain instead of "muh creator's son"
>Professor X being a jobber

No wonder it just went down 68% in the box office.

It was just X2 with a loli. So actually it was just the first x-Men.
>ooh but this time it has gore! Lol. Wolverine actually kills people
But there was NO PURPOSE TO IT. All that r rating did was allow them to swear, show some tìts, and become The Evil Dead with Old Man Logan. It served no purpose to the actual story.
Deadpool I get. You gotta make Deadpool R rated.
But why Wolverine? He's literally the only X-Man kids know. So by putting all the Extra "mature things" in all you did was screw yourselves out of the easy buck from kids dragging their parents yo it.

YOU MISSED THE FUCKING POINT! This film wasn't about nods to the source material! It was about the last legs of Wolverine, not something a fatass neckbeard would bounce up and down in his chair and shout "I GOT THAT REFERENCE" at.

Oh man, the story behind this is all kind of crazy, See, that's not a parody. That's "Bob The Galactic Bum", a DC miniseries written by John Wagner and Alan Grant and drawn by Carlos Ezquerra. The mini was about a galactic hobo and his friend who get into a bunch of hijinks, and Lobo, Vril Dox and Stealth guest-star along with a bunch of Khunds and such.
Here's where it gets tricky: thanks to their contract, Bob and the story itself belongs to Wagner and Grant, but all the DC characters belong to DC. And when the Judge Dredd Megazine was having serious budget issues in the 90s they were looking for anything creator-owned they could reprint (they famously reprinted Preacher for a couple of years), and ran into this mini. And because they couldn't use the DC characters, they got Ezquerra to redraw all of their panels and the script was similarly edited to change all names.
Also, you may remember Alan Grant as the guy who co-wrote the first two Lobo minis and wrote nearly every issue of his 90s monthly and further miniseries/one-shots.

Did you ever hear of the Ex-Mutants and New Humans? It was indie b&w titles from Ron Lim, (artist). I think that was how he made his industry debut. I liked the concept...a post-apocalyptic world where people have become deformed mutants...in one title i think the humans were mutants restored to their normal humanity and the other might have been people revived from cryogenic hibernation and were unaffected by the nuclear Armageddon. In a way it was the Walking Dead before Rick Grimes was ever invented. Well, Marvel raised hell and the two series went away. marvel are real dickheads. They act like they own letters of the alphabet. At least DC had a stronger case regarding Shazam back in the day. Parodies and homages can be done well or at least offer interesting takes on industry prototypes the Big 2 would never touch.

Why does Marvel get shit for having diverse legacy heroes when DC has been doing the same thing with the most famous superhero of all time?
199 posts and 22 images submitted.
>>
>>90659104
Not a legacy.
>>
>>90659104
They didn't get rid of Clark Kent as Superman to introduce Chinese Superman, they both existed at the same time.
>>
One, not a legacy or replacement.

Two, it's all about the execution. Marvel's problem isn't the legacies, or even the forced diversity. Their problem is that their books are written like shit.

This. He also bent over backwards to try and make sense of the bullshit that Bendy dropped in CWII in his Ultimates ongoing.

But mostly I think it's just a /co/ meme at this point just like Soule was for a bit between Swamp-Thing and She-Hulk (and just like Soule and King it's only a matter of time till the Hivemind turns on Ewing).
