This is probably going to sound stupid.
since it is a petty fear/anxiety
but to make it short I want to start a more pesecetarian diet, but I have never bought fish on my own before.
Do you have to get it in certain sizes?
or can I just be like "I want 3 6 once pieces of salmon."?
Is there usually a way to know what they have? or do you have to ask?

I get kinda nervous about social situations especially ones I am inexperienced in. It's been one of the main things from keeping me going shopping.

any help would be appreciated

I was the same way and yes that is all you will have to do. Keep in mind they will be like is a 5.8 , 6.1 and 6.4 pices ok?

They charge by weight so it's fine.
>>
>>7277048
Go to the fish counter.
Look at what they have.
Tell the person behind the counter that you want X amount of Y.
They will weigh it out, wrap it up and hand it to you.
Say "Thank you." and if the person at the counter tells you to have a nice day you say "You too."

You know, I hate shit posting, and I'm sorry guys, but this is probably a shit post. Especially in /ck/... I'm gonna post a pretty good OC tomorrow so maybe this will make up for it.

How does beer get you so drunk? It's like 5% alcohol, but if I have like 7-8 I have a good buzz rolling. But, if I drink hard liqueur that's like 70 proof, even after a few shots I don't feel anything.

Is it like a volume per alcohol ratio? I think this needs some serious discussion, especially since we have so many drunks on /ck/.

I was thinking about this the other day in regards to wine. Wine is 12-15%, but I can kill a bottle by myself no problem. I won't even be tipsy. Is it the carbonation in the beer that makes you get drunk quicker? I've heard this about champagne, but I don't know. I don't buy it. Interesting to think about.

On another subject I was thinking about this; if you're not able to digest corn, how are there nutrition facts on the can. BTW I don't fuck with canned corn. It was just an observation.
>>
>>7277008
You know ittakes more than a srcond to get drunk, yourbody needs to absorb the ethanol first
>>
some say it's the fizz.

champagne is a good example because more fizzy equals more dizzy.

What dish is a good indication of cooking competence

A proper medium rare steak? Omelet?
Baked bread?

Underagefag here, and even though I'm more than capable of obtaining alcohol, I'm really into DIY stuff. I figured it'd be fun to grab my gf and start a home brewery/winery. I know there are online guides, but does anyone have any particular good drinks to start with? I'm into sake, mead, or maybe a strong beer.

Anyone have any stories, for better or worse?

Beer is probably the easiest and quickest booze to make. Takes about 30 days all up from start to finish and its a good way to learn the basics of fermentation.

My brother always makes them when he's in town with natto cores

Rice and Beans can be awesome and healthy a day after when the flavors marry

Try making yourself a bento box

Could be pretty awesome lunch

hey /ck/, which is better in terms of energy efficiency and general baking/cookery, a gas oven or an electric oven?
23 posts and 3 images submitted.
>>
Do they even make gas ovens?
>>
>>7276911
yes, they do
>>
>>7276911
Not as common as electric ones, but they're pretty cool.

I've only ever used cheap uncalibrated ancient electric ones myself. A gas one once.

But something like OP or any convection oven will be better than a conventional. Regardless of heat source

Traditional European Cuisine
>Beat eggs heavily to create a light, foamy batter, cook at high temperature without opening the oven to create a flaky crust, just sear the meat in the pan so that only a little bit of pink remains, grill the vegetables while retaining a little bit of the hardness, cook the pasta al dente, slightly raw enough to be hard on the teeth

Traditional British Cuisine

in all seriousness, why didn't britain develop more robust culinary traditions?

>>

Higher end British cuisine before WWII mostly consisted of French-inspired dishes using the same techniques as French chefs. Commoner food was certainly a lot less prestigious, but so was commoner French food.

A traditional bit of English cookery would be spit-roasted meats that had been dry-aged, cut into thin slices and served with some type of sauce or gravy.

I would also argue that range of British baking and confection was second only to Germany up to WWI.

Are there any lovers of the drink here who went through periods of drinking quite a bit, but learned how to moderate and control themselves?

I drink everyday and it relaxes my nerves but would like to cut back but at the same time I don't want to give up alcohol completely and I'm sure as hell not doing the AA shit.

I've seen and read enough about that shit, I think going to an AA meeting would make me want to drink more.

Is it really all or nothing or can you learn to drink responsibly /ck/? And if you're not the AA type what do you do to at least cut back.

I read the 12 steps and instantly thought, this is a cult.

I realised I started having blackouts, and I got scared. Really scared, because I literally couldn't remember shit from the evening before. I'd think I passed out around ten on the couch drinking by myself, when I'd see I was calling a cab at 5 in the morning, or have a McDonalds receipt in my pocket, or I spent $80 at a liquor store last night. And people would call me up, say how great the time was, etc, so it wasn't like I was acting too drunk. Really cut back on my drinking since then.
>>
>>7276818
I took a flask of Makers Mark to my one and only AA meeting. Everyone was in their 50s and 60s. I got the impression they all regretted one thing - being old and not being able to go drunken ape shit wild like they used to when they were young.

But to answer your question - I used to drink way more than I should have. Evan Williams everyday. I got sick. I completely stopped drinking for a few years but then eased back into it. I will never go back to the hard stuff but I still enjoy a wide array of beer.

Also, you can try taking up pot smoking. I gave it a try and it just made me feel disoriented and dumb. Not for me.
>>
12 steps is not a cult. The higher power can be whatever you want it to be. It can be the sanctity of your own asshole for all it matters. The point is to care for something.
