Was the fish-eye lens a good idea?
You know you would've drooled over this screenshot in a magazine.
Of course. All the ladies and mens they know everything is better with a fish-eye lens.
CRTs won't last forever right? There's a limited quantity and some die every day. How do you think this will be handled in the future?
Even the Mona Lisa's falling apart, Anon. Before there's a significant shortage of CRTs there will be OLEDs or whatever with sufficient color depth (someone showed me a chart that indicates there's already ones that have greater overall color range) and resolution to accurately simulate CRTs.
Theres thousands of those TVs in my country. And they are 10-20 bucks each one
there are MILLIONS of them in america. i see them on peoples curbs all the time out for trash, fully functional, and 20$ or less at goodwill. limited quanity my fucking ass.
Let's have a retro game music thread. Keep it comfy, just post songs/OSTs you like and get recs from other anons. I'm in love with this song and haven't found anything that matches it yet. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oaLOOiXbkYo
Anyone?

hahah isnt this what Shinji listens to on his SDAT in one of the Evangelion episodes?
Any other PC-98 games with as good use of the synth available as YU-NO? I've been listening to this for weeks on end already.

What other instances of sexual references have you seen in video games?

You are now manually aware that Ramza Beolve and his team killed like 1,000 people.

Motherfucker it was not called Bakesale of the Lions

Seriously though, storywise, he should have manned the fuck up after his first kill.

This thread is for the spirited discussion of CRT displays - Televisions, monitors and projectors used for the playing of retro games!
>Try to keep it /vr/-related: Nothing past 5th gen(+ Dreamcast). Slight OT might be okay if related to CRTs (E.G. 16:9 compatible models, flatscreens, etc.) Systems with backwards compatibility are also pretty safe territory, assuming you're focusing on the older games. PC CRTs are also a-ok.
>Produce OC! Get out your real cameras and take beautiful pictures of your CRTs displaying recognizable characters with the kind of beautiful accuracy that brings tears to the eyes of young and old alike! If you take 100 photos, at least one of them will turn out alright! (maybe)
>Try to be as detailed as possible when asking info on a specific model. As always, google is your friend, and we are your friends with benefits. Older archived threads aren't a bad place to look either.
>Share appreciation for others choice of technology and personal philosophy of gaming. As always show courtesy in your discussion and moderate yourselves first.
Discussion of video processing and scaling devices is okay, but try to keep the focus on CRTs and CRT accessories

Since this is basically Sony The Thread, have you ever owned something more exotic? I remember our family had a Nokia crt, and it didnt look that bad.
Is it possible to connect either a GTX 1070 or R9 270x to a CRT by converting DVI-D to VGA, then getting one of those $50 boxes off Amazon or eBay to convert VGA to Component, and have my PC output 320x240@60hz to said CRT without it catastrophically fucking up?
Just reminding you there is a ton of great JP-only games you can now play thanks to Google Translate.
>>3925207
I kinda tried. You can learn Hiragana and Katakana, but learning Kanji is something you can realistically only do when in school, and when you have memory of a teenager.
>>3925227
Nah, you can do it at any time, it's just fucking boring as hell and the average non-NEET adult doesn't have time for this shit.
>>3925227
Not true, kanji is like learning emoticons, you come to realize this mashup of Asian squiggles has meaning. When I see the kanji for sake, I no longer think "oh that means sake." My brain just knows it automatically on seeing it, the same as if someone were to send me a :-) or something, you know that means "smile" without really thinking about it.
Words made up of more than one are the same, you just see the overall symbol and know the word. It all feels like using a different part of your brain than Western writing which is why I think people get intimidated by it.
What went wrong?
>>3924573
It was made to early.
It's a interesting device, with some pretty neat games, but it has it's limitations.
Hell, even now VR pretty basic.
>>3924573
It was too good for this world
It's not virtual and it's not portable
I want to emulate nintendo 64, SNES, NES (and possibly some PS1 titles), which should I buy; the Wii or Wii U? I want the most power so that emulations go smoothly, but not sure if there is going to be any difference in emulation between Wii and Wii U. I am also worried that it is not possible to get emulators as easily for Wii as it is for the Wii u. Give me some input.
Wii all the way. It supports 240p and they're super cheap. Emulation on the Wii U uses Wii mode anyway.
There's basically no difference. With the exception of one or two pieces of homebrew (namely Loadline to load WiiU ISOs) everything runs through the virtual Wii mode, so everything out there made for the Wii will also run on a Wii U. As far as emulators go they're exactly the same, I'd only really recommend the Wii if you have a CRT or like using Gamecube controllers.
>>3944492
It uses the Wii mode, but will the Emulation be smoother because of the better hardware? For instance, will ps1 titles and n64 titles run better on Wii U?
> Own this game as a kid
> Play it pretty often, get pretty good
> Slow / autistic neighbor comes over after school
> He's in the 'special' classes, smells bad, no common sense.
> "Let's play this game! It has Yoshi!"
> "Okay, we can do 2 player."
> I beat him in our first session.
> Me: "You can hold L or R to make the screen scroll faster if you want."
> Second session. He DESTROYS me.
> Watching him play he's constantly holding L & R and racking up tons of huge combos, chaining blocks like a mad man.
> In the first 30 minutes of solo play he beats all my records.
> I just got owned by a literal retard.
Anyone else ever experience anything like this?
Not really
But Tetris Attack is a really good game
TA/PDP general?
>>3943429
Not that unbelievable. That kid as his savant-talent then had THE EYE. You know, the eye that lets you analyse the whole stack instantly and calculate how which blocks could be moved to chain to other removed blocks without you getting- what would be the normal reaction- overwhelmed by all those colored blocks.
>>3943452
There you go >>3937920
>>3943429
You're an idiot. Many autisitic people have savant skills and are generally good at stuff like quick logic thinking and math. It's a tradeoff, you get overwhelmed by simple stimuli and can't hold a conversation, but you're really good with some stuff.
Which game has the best atmosphere ever and why is it SS2?
>>3943330
Half-life, Diablo, Soul Reaver were quite atmospheric.
I quite enjoy the atmosphere of TES:Daggerfall. The noises the enemies make combined with the usually echoing soundtrack.
https://youtu.be/Jd3RwMmcOr8
Some parts of Deu Sex were pretty atmospheric
My top three moments of great atmosphere were the first two missions, the Vanderberg missile base and that mission where you rescue a girl held hostage near a gas station.
Can we have a Spyro thread? Also a general Insomniac Games retro thread. Ratchet and Clank included, being 17 years old.
Favourite homeworlds, music, portal worlds, supporting characters, dialogue, overall game?
>>3942396
Yo I was literally just about to make a spyro thread. I'm playing through the first one right now and its probably my favorite 3d platformer; the graphics still look just as good as they did back then too.
spyro 2 shits all over it

>>3941851
Kinda used answer,but anyways,FFVI.
>>3941851
FFVIII I like the great graphics, awsome music (but its almost all FF games), I like the spell/magic collecting system drawing and connecting it to stats, and GF stat increasing and awsome summon animations, story was also good (maybe a bit simple)
