I don't think Sega has anything to worry about if they let the Mania team keep doing their thing. Sonic's modern design may not be used as widely if Sonic Team keeps fucking up, however. Classic Sonic may as well be the franchise's "golden boy" at this point.

The original had a more interesting setting in general, this one was basically "go here and look at this fag" during the sight-seeing missions compared to the history of the mob in the original. WD2 had more options for hacking the city but you used probably a quarter of them that you unlock from the start, the ones in the original felt like they had more impact. The story felt shit too and I was just glad to see it end. Hugely disappointing compared to wd1.

Most people find the centered rocket to be more helpful when trying to learn to rocket jump and the only advantage is that you don't have to lean as much leftwards from cover while shooting. The downside is that stock Rocket Launcher allows you for far easier ability to spam your rightwards from cover.

All in all it's mostly for preference and the upsides/downsides are so slight they don't help too much in the long run.

Former coach here. Yes I do regret my life choices. You should NEVER practice rocket jumping with the original, it's a crutch that will give you bad habits and hurt you in the long run no matter what.
