Mind you the 3DS is at around 64 million sold. The PS4 just cracked 60 million. The 3DS is also 3 years older.
Why would Sony put out a new console while their current one is doing so well? That would be a stupid business move. As long as the PS4 sells, Sony is in zero rush to put out the PS5. You won't even hear about it until 2019 at the earliest.

The Wii U got games eventually, but I don't think there is a single (or multiple) Nintendo-developed game that I would have gotten a Wii U for. The starfox section of Bayonetta was better than actual Starfox Zero, and there was a plethora of sub-par mario games, no metroids or fzeros - and the zelda it finally got wasn't even decent.

If 1st party support means 8/10 games are Mario games then i could give no shit whatsoever if they're following the same slow and boring gameplay that has plagued the series since Sunshine. I had more appreciation for mario kart as a casual racer when they also had Fzero as a more serious racer, which they haven't touched in a decade. I'd likely have more appreciation for Splatoon as a casual shooter if they still pioneered Metroid, even more prime games. I'd like Super Smash Bros better if they stopped recycling Melee and actually expanded upon the gameplay as much as Melee expanded over SSB.

It's absolutely questionable whether the console will even have all this internal support that seems self evident, or if these games will even be good when modern Nintendo has kicked some of their legacy franchises square in the nuts as of late, delivering subpar entries that virtually only aim to tarnish the value of the legacy branding altogether.
