I have a few questions about the gaslighter archetype for mesmerists in the Pathfinder roleplaying game.
At 3rd level, as a standard action, a gaslighter can implant a maddening phantasm) in the mind of the target of his hypnotic stare, causing the target to perceive its own reflection as corrupted in some disturbing way. This is a mind-affecting fear effect, and there is no saving throw. The target is simultaneously captivated and horrified by the sight of its own reflection, and in any round in which the target can see itself in a mirror within 30 feet, the gaslighter can trigger his painful stare against the target without dealing damage. This is a gaze attack, and the creature can avert its eyes to attempt to avoid it. Any creature holding a visible mirror that attempts to demoralize the target can choose to add the gaslighter’s Charisma modifier to its Intimidate check instead of its own. Horrid mask lasts until that particular hypnotic stare ends (often when the target moves away from a mirror). The gaslighter can use this ability a number of times per day equal to 3 + his Charisma modifier.
This ability replaces touch treatment (minor) and alters painful stare.
However the archetype appears to in no way affect Hypnotic stare. So im confused. What does it mean by this. How does the stare end when the subject moves away from the mirror; if the stare is reliant on YOUR distance to the victim, not the mirror's.
Anyone know?
What secondary powers would you need for super toughness and super regeneration?
>>54204818
Super Not Getting Cancer
>>54204818
Absolute caloric efficiency, or at least the ability to produce nutrition through mystical means.
Because good lord are you going to be burning calories regenerating an arm.
>>54204818
None.
Seriously, unleee you are an autistic dipshit (which is a bad thing because I myself am autistic but I am not a dipshit) then you are capable of acknowledging that superpowers don't really make sense and don't NEED to make sense.
How do you create interesting mechanics for a battle? At what point does a mechanic go from interesting to frustrating? Can there be overlap?
Tell me about interesting tabletop battle mechanics you've had, /tg/.

Not enough bait, better luck next time.

It's literally an American animation on Netflix.
Does anyone else fucking detest Thog hit characters?
I swear one girl plays a stupid half-orc barbarian in a game I'm playing and I hate her so much. So fucking randumb and stupid. Also, after like 20 sessions she still doesn't know the rules.
>>54203756
I'd say OOC lolrandomness and stupidity has little to do with an IC Thog character.
I've played those myself.
Nah, I love my Thog hit characters. Sometimes a party just needs an endearingly dumb thug.
>>54203756
Amazing: experienced player plays Thog hit character in a clever and somewhat complex way to avoid becoming the de facto dictator when with new players
Ok: cooperative Thog hit character who knows their role and won't overdo it
Bad: aggressive Thog hit player who wants to take charge of the group and uses their character's strength and inability to understand as a battering ram against opposition
Kill me: crazy Thog hit character with random, inconsistent behaviour who's always trying to be funny
So I've recently made an investment in a brothel, buying them new furniture but the place has two problems.
They need new girls and they have competition in three brothels.
What's the best way to get rid of three brothels in one day without getting arrested?Current plan: Burn them down.
Yeah, three out of four brothels in town burn down, just as the fourth is investing? Getting arrested would be a lucky break there, because whatever organised crime has interests in the rest are gonna be pretty fucking pissed, and lesser minds than Sherlock Holmes will find it trivial to figure out who to feed to the pigs here.
Why not just build good business relationship with the others?
Warn each other about problem clients, trade girls to keep your stock "fresh".
Offer diffrent things then the others do. Be it kinks or just nicer environment
This is how it wores in the real world.
>>54203066
>>54203161
There are other brothels in town, they are merely the biggest competition.
Furthermore, the three brothels are in business with one another and I doubt they would bring a fourth into the fold.
Sup /tg/?
I've been playing with this idea in my head for a year or three about a Sci-Fi campaign set in the relatively near future that starts out as your typical "Research Station in Earth orbit stopped answering our calls, we need you to go see what's going on up there." plot. I'm aiming for a Dead Space/Event Horizon sort of experience, but I've been stuck for a while now on what system would be best to run it.
At first I considered tweaking Dark Heresy, but recently I've been considering Star Wars Saga because its versatile weapon/armor modification system would represent improvised/adapted weaponry fairly well. However, it will need to be an all Human campaign, and I've little interest in adding in more overt psionic or mystical powers for the PCs to use.
Stars Without Number was recommended to me earlier today, but it just doesn't seem to offer what I'm looking for.
Any suggestions?
I'd honestly suggest giving SWN a second look, because what you describe is essentially a dungeon crawl.
That said if you want the more action feel of Dead Space, Savage Worlds could probably manage; it has supplements for both horror and science fiction.
>>54202965
Thanks Anon. My biggest reservation with SWN at the moment is that I'd essentially be barring the players from rolling Psychic classes, which removes 1/3 of their options, and I feel like that'd be pretty shitty. I'll dig up Savage Worlds as well.
>>54202997
Why bar players from psychic classes?
Also, here's a trove of old White Dwarf issues in PDF:

>>54202602
Thanks.
Admittedly I don't have a very high opinion on AD&D adventures - 2nd edition never had anything good published on it, and most of the classic 1st edition adventures are completely blown away by newer OSR stuff - but then, I've never read White Dwarf so maybe there's something new there.
>>54202602
Only one I've looked at/heard of is the Lichway because Death Frost Doom based/barrowed/stole/whatever from it. It looks fun.
>>54202602
I've heard good things about the Halls of Tizun Thane, very Swords and Sorc for AD&D, but there's also Khazad Dum, which is basically a huge replay of the scene from Mines Of Moriah in AD&D.

Thread Question:
Should alternate casting be castable from the Command Zone as if it were from your hand? With or without tax? Why or why not? Examples are welcome.
>>54202531
>Thread Question:
Not. Even with tax that would be too cheap.
If you want to cast a commander with alternate costs, find a way to put the commander in your hand.
>>54202531
Yes. There's one legendary creature with suspend, Ith, and two with Ninjutsu, Higure and Ink-Eyes. Kolaghan and Zurgo Bellringer have Dash, but you can already dash from the Command Zone. Higure is Ninja tribal, Ink-Eyes is yet another black reanimator except you can't surprise anyone from the Command Zone, and still takes 4 turns to come in and is just a Maze of Ith as a creature anyways.
>>54202650
and Ith* still takes 4 turns to come in.
What's your favorite established setting? Least favorite? What's the last one you've played/currently playing?
>Heavily homebrewed Forgotten Realms that removes most of the God-tier magics and intrusions by deities and legendary figures
>The Glory of Rome (2e sourcebook). I really looked forward to playing it, but the sourcebook is quite shallow
>Planning a game set in Lankhmar, unknown if it will take off.
Ravenloft is my favourite since I love me some gothic horror.
After that probably the Realms. It might be due to nostalgia but I really think that the Realms is the best setting if you're looking for a "traditional" fantasy setting. It's got everything you could ever want and more.
Don't really have a least favourite.
I'd love to play a sandbox campaign in Greyhawkm, but there are no source books for my system.
>>54202324
do those that weren't published specifially for tabletop count?
Hey /tg/. I was creating a character for D&D 3.5 who is going to be like an edgy assassin type.
I haven't decided on a special ability for the weapon (was going to go katana of course) so I wanted to see what you guys could come up with rather than using something from the books.
>>54202323
Is this character an NPC?
>>54202344
Player character.
>>54202323
It's a blood katana, the more damage it does to enemies or the more damage its wielder takes, it draws the blood onto itself in a really edgy and anime-esq way, getting increased range and damage.
Have you ever played an item? A sentient weapon, a vehicle with an AI, whatever else. How'd it go?
>>54202235
Do droids count? I was a droid in a D6 Star Wars campaign. Was fun
Who among you have used a phane in 5e? How did you do it? And what problems did you have?
