How is this physically possible?

What are you even trying to say? There is space between atoms dumb shit.
>>
>>8751452
If you were to find a structure resembling a right triangle in nature for which you knew the legs in len(atoms) or len(molecules) such as pic related, and you solved for c, the length of the hypotheses would be irrational. How is this possible for a physical object?
>>
>>8751520
You would need to look for an atom thats slighty bigger than the other ones

Just a reminder to everybody laughing about American education: we are smarter than you. We have the best universities on the planet, have the most living Nobel Prize winners of any nation, and are responsible for countless inventions and scientific and intellectual accomplishments which your lives depend on every day. We earned the position of world's most intelligent nation through the American education system and the imperial measurement system, and we will keep this position through these .

>muh immigrants
>muh per capita

Sorry but these are invalid arguments. The intellectual power of the United States of America is stronger than any of your nations, bar none. Immigrants who choose to make use of our superior universities and higher education system usually become American citizens in order to work alongside their American genius friends and colleagues, making them just as American as me or any of my countrymen. I understand that this might make some of you feel inadequate, so you pick on nonexistent SJW classes that, while retarded, are offered to students because America is a land of freedom to learn anything you choose no matter what. This is our strength, and this is what makes us better than you.

America out

we are really good at getting the best immigrants and funding their research but our k-12 education system is pathetic and you can't deny this.

It's just you guys like to spam citations. The ranking isn't majority about the education quality, rather the number of citations and awards you guys shit out. Same goes for why Karolinska institutet is the "best" medical school because they give out the Nobel prize for medicine and shit out lots of citations.

I'm doing a presentation tomorrow on OLEDs where I'm being assessed on my speaking skills, among other things. I know it's lame but I gots ta do it.

Does anyone know any OLED-related jokes?

I know nothing of OLEDs, but a joke is never a bad idea. Good luck Anon.

I was thinking about coming up with a way to remove radiation from the ocean without causing desalination.

Reverse osmosis seems to be one of the most efficient ways to remove radiation but this will also desalinate the water, I'm no expert but would there be a way to make some sort of barge or other form of large ship that can pump the water through a reverse osmosis system and resalinate the water before returning it to the ocean?

I'm also wondering what other kinds of essential nutrients or molecules would be removed from the ocean water that would need to be returned.

Would the salt retain the radiation? How could we remove radiation from the salt?

Any thoughts would be appreciated!

I don't know much about the subject, but could anything be done to disperse the water and dilute it more? (tons of boats with giant nets/pumps?)
>>
We could just bioengineer algae and microbes to eat all the waste and then let the whales eat the algae.

Then when the whales die from radiation poisoning, it's all contained and concentrated in their dead bodies at the bottom of the ocean. Or if they're lucky, they don't get poisoning, and everything's cool all around.
>>
>>8751537
Good thought I was also thinking something along those lines too but also, it would just mean lower radiation levels across a larger body of water meaning more sea life being effected by it.

I'm not entirely sure if spreading it out would necessarily be beneficial

What's the hardest degree? Let's say we're talking here about PhD. Is it Physics? Math? Normies would say it's something in health sciences 'cause it's the hardest to get in (pharmacy, medicine, etc.) but that's just because they are more popular and receive more inscriptions.

Actually Clinical Psych PhD (not PsyD) is more difficult than med school etc...

I'd probably say something in pure math, but I don't know more math than undergrad abstract algebra and analysis, so I wouldn't be able to say what particular area.

Guys and "grills",

I finishing my degree in Comp Sci and I'm out of ideas for my senior thesis. Could you guys help me out? There are no bad suggestions. If you guys help me I will put a dedication note to this board on my thesis and post it here.

My areas of interest are:

> Computer Graphics;
> Data mining;
> Numerical simulation;

The suggestions are not restricted to the areas above, I just want something easy and interesting (fuck me right?).

Optical flow

The idea is you take 2 images separated by a short amount of time (i.e. take a picture, then take a 1/2 step forward, and take another picture)

then look at the differences between them, the movement of the blocks of pixels, etc. and come up with an algorithm to determine which objects are close and which ones are far.

good shit. look into it

if you come up with a sweet enough algorithm, you'll win a nobel and you'll get hired by google or amazon or someone for 100k+ or win a nsf fellowship and get paid to go to berkeley

>tfw too smart for sleep and food
I know people can go fucking crazy from too little sleep and act drunk from it and shit, but I'm honestly fucking sick of sleeping. I'm tired of going to bed at fucking 9 PM every night and tossing and turning and eventually just reading until fucking 2 AM and then going to sleep and waking up at 10 AM.

I want to wake up at 8 AM every day, or maybe even fucking 7 AM or 6 AM. I want to get the absolute most time out of the day as I possibly can.

What is the BEAR MINIMUM amount of sleep a person can have without experiencing retardation and degradation?

I take 750 MG of Depakote and 50 MG of Zoloft and 27 MG of Concerta, and I drink caffeine in the morning. I also need to take two benadryll when I lay down to even get fucking drowsy to pass out. Last night though I didn't take any benadryll and was up until 4 fucking AM and woke up at 10 AM again. I'm fucking sick of this shit. I have only gotten 6 hours of sleep atm, and I feel ok.

Also I am fucking sick of screwing around with food. All I eat is fucking hamburgers, and when I can't get fast food I have to fucking sit and spend 10 minutes fixing a pb sandwich with milk, and I am so fucking sick of eating that fucking garbage. It's the most bland tasting SHIT ever, and it takes FOREVER to chew and swallow it. I fucking hate it.

Are any of these stupid ass powder drink shake things actually real? Is Soylent actually good? I hate eating almost as much as I hate fucking sleeping. It just is a waste of time. I want to fucking dedicate as much time as possible to doing my damn work.

Today I was talking to a professor of mine who said that he regrets never publishing as an undergrad because when he first applied to get a graduate degree internationally he was asked how many papers had he published before and as his answer was 0 that killed him for such a competitive position and that stagnated his career by years. He then said that you should start writing and thinking about publishing since your junior year.

I am currently a sophomore and I want to have an easy graduate life. I don't want to have to worry about getting accepted or not, so obviously now I want to start researching by next year.

My question is, if I were to come up with really weird problems in number theory, like fucked up diophantine equations, and started solving them and publishing a paper out of them. Is that good enough undergraduate research?

I like number theory because in number theory you can make a problem out of nothing. Everything is a problem as long as you can word it using enough quantifiers and I want to milk that as much as I can. I just wonder if this will work.

Will it? Any number theorists who do this?

Go figure out how to n-sect a general angle in 2 dimensional space with a ruler and compass (and perhaps an ellipse drawing tool)

No, seriously.

And then teach me how to do it.
>>
Oh, I forgot to ask. If not then what is the minimum that you would consider publishable?

I just want to know what is the bare minimum and then train to reach that bare minimum, maybe before I even become a Junior, and then I can get a head start publishing.
>>
>>8750746
Isn't this impossible for n>2?

Also, this is algebra not number theory. I need number theory because I already started reading number theory at a higher level than I am at so I can't turn back on that.

If I am smart enough I could learn graduate level number theory by my junior year. But I can't do the same for other fields like Algebra. I already picked my poison.
