And it's a much better job than you think, OP. I'm about to start my first developer job in May, I've worked a couple of relevant internships and it's been nice.

Before that as a teen I worked as a dishwasher at a busy hotel/banquet center and in a warehouse on 3rd shift. You have no idea what soul crushing work is.

Being a developer is getting paid 50k+ to sit at a desk, code, and creatively solve problems with your team members. You get a lot more intrinsic reward from things you create than 80% of other major occupations.

And after your 5 years of Level 1 and 2 work you can try to get a lead or management role somewhere so shut up and nut up.

And then there's the wonderful meetings, with people that have to open their mouth and drag on meetings. Bosses who are too useless to make choices and leave you in limbo.
