Hey sci, just a premed student here. I've always liked science, especially biology, and I'm sincerely interested in it.

My memory isn't bad, but the process of memorization itself kills me. What should I do?

And I know this is not /adv/, but the retards over there won't give me appropriate answers. But I'll still ask you a scientific question - why can't I study after sunset? Something just happens to my brain - I can't process any information, and I feel incredibly lazy after the sun goes down.

Sounds like you should wake up at dawn?

Find the fun in memorizing.

I try to not work past 8pm.
>>
>>8760371
Thing is, waking up also kills me. My body is weird - I'll feel like shit unless I sleep for 10 hours. Coffee doesn't help.
>>
>>8760369
because how long you study is proportional to your current stress level. Most biology classes is a fucking meme and will not shoot up your stress level

Why the fuck didn't evolution lubricate this tract?

Shitting would be 100% easier/cleaner if there was a relatively thin layer of natural lubrication leading all the way out.

This just further disproves the existence of a god.

As a thought experiment, say you could bring back Euler, Gauss, Godel in the modern mathematical landscape and gave them time to get caught up to more mathematical knowledge. How would they compare to Tao and Witten?
13 posts and 1 images submitted.
>>
It would be gamble, they would surpass them cognitively (considering what they have to work with in their times), but not necessary contribute anything spectacular (like other praised math prodigies today).
>>
They should be brought back as kids, I doubt they could have the mental plasticity as adults to completely understand some concepts when they have been working all their lifes with lower level maths and different notation.
>>
>>8759839
You are wrong. As a child you can only develop thought process. Even at old age they would have no troubles understand difficult concepts.

As many of you know the golden ration being, the ratio of 1.618..:1, is commonly used by creationists as evidence that justifies believe in a divine designer.

It can be found throughout nature and the universe and it has been used extensively in architecture, art and music.

The nautilus, stalks of wheat, the human face, and the body of a dolphin all conform to the Golden Ratio.

The question is, does this mean the universe is the product of intelligent design or could it be part of something else we do not yet understand?

>tldr; the golden ratio is constantly used by creationist as proof of intelligent design, does this claim hold up or not?
18 posts and 3 images submitted.
>>
No, it just means some ways of arranging things are more efficient than others, and they will persist with evolution. I guess many tend to have golden ratio proportions in their bodies and doesn't change anymore because that proportion is the most efficient for survival.

Watch the sacred geometry vid by Spirit Science. It's nearly 2 hours long but worth it every fucking second. Though it might not directly answer your question, it does show that we, nature and the universe are in perfect equilibrium with each other. I've studied the bible for 2 years with JW's and didn't find anything in there to back this up on a creationists level though. Don't debate them, they can't provide any new evidence, just rationalisation and misinterpreted "theories" science provides. But this "sacred geometry" stuff came to be more often independently from each other. That means something. If you were to wipe out Christianity from everyones minds, it wouldn't come back. Same does not go for the speed of light. Because it's out there. Go get some crisps and Fanta, and enjoy

I've been thinking about why people consider suicide to be a bad decision and I unironically think the exact opposite
When you kill yourself...
>...all the negative aspects of your life go away, which is a good thing
>...all the positive aspects of your life go away, which seems like a bad thing, but you'd no longer feel the need for them so it's actually a neutral thing.
So suicide is on one side good, on the other neutral, so overall it's good.
Am I missing something here? Is my logic inconsistent? Or should I just kill myself because it's the best option?

>>8759309
You've not considered the potential good in your equations, neither have you considered other people, or the fact that suicide is a fucking impulse that can easily be treated
>>
Reminds me of that guy who left a treatise on why suicide is good as his suicide note.

do it/10
>>
i dont know waht to say about suicide , i personally think this about life:
>You are born to fail
>You are born to learn about your failures to never happen again
>You fail in life to help others
Also , once my little brother and i where having a dumb disqussion and i said ; "You cant never do something rigth , what can you do rigth?"
and he said "live , because i can kill myself"

Why do I love ULA so much? It's pretty simple when I think about it. ULA isn't just the best launch provider in the country; they might just be the greatest launch provider of all time. Just imaging the Altas V riding through the skies of Earth, the wind on its fairing, the mighty RD-180 below it. As she rides through the red sky, NASA swoons at her very scent. They know how she smells; the essence of burning RP-1 smell is sold in Orlando under the name of "Space Orgasm." The very nature of ULA is mystery. Could they be playing a deeper game than even Tory Bruno realizes? The answer is yes, ULA has transcended such boundaries as the physical world, and has free will to do whatever they sees fit. However, ULA is filled with such guile, such arcane craft that they does not even use these powers. Why, you might ask? You will never know, for the mind of the ULA is not one that is easily penetrated. ULA rockets are such a force of nature in this realm that nothing can truly touch them, the only thing keeping them bound to this world at all is their will to exist within the preordained boundaries understood physics. ULA is not only beyond the comprehension of us, it exists within a plane of true focus and beauty. Observe the plume of exhaust gasses from this Delta IV, the gorgeous and rippling flames, the gallant fairing, and most importantly, its engines. Her engines, like cauldrons straight from hell, provide the only glimpse into the true machinations of ULA. Do not stare into them. Many good men have gone mad in the attempt. ULA is not just a launch provider, a formless collection of engineers and rockets; they are themselves the binding that holds the word together. Without ULA, Musk the Menace takes over and the entire space industry as we know it crumbles. The Mississippi would stop flowing without ULA, Kessler syndrome would take over in orbit, and the space station would fall without their fiery gaze. These are just of a few of the reasons why I like ULA so much.

Whats the scientific definition of consciousness?
Can science really call something non-metaphysical if they know it exists but can't measure or observe?
27 posts and 1 images submitted.
>>
Consciousness is difficult to define because people who don't have consciousness will disagree with the definition given by people who do have it.

In general, any definition that attempts to conflate "consciousness" with "identity" is a definition made by somebody who lacks consciousness.
>>
Neurology still has a lot to do on this field, but in a few decades conciousness will probably be understood completely, now we can only theorize based on what we know.

I like you.

its also what makes it literally impossible to talk to normies on the subject - the ideas are literally identical to them. Both are this magic quality that they believe they have that makes them separate and unique from the rest of the universe.

>if there are infinite number of universes then there must be at least one universe where your mom doesn't suck my dick

or any extremely unlikely scenario...

Now please explain to me how an infinite number of universes leads to every possible scenario playing out.

Or don't, cuz I can prove you wrong.

Universe 1 - your mom sucks my dick once.
Universe 2 - your mom sucks my dick twice.
Universe 3 - your mom sucks my dick three times.

Ad infinitum.

{ 1, 2, .., ∞ } is an infinite set

{ 0 } is not in the above set

Checkmate.

counter argument, consider the set of even positive numbers
{2, 4, 6, 8, ... } is an infinite set
the integers are also ""infinite"" but not really since {0} is not in the above set
ergo there is no zero, furthermore, there aren't even odd numbers, or negative numbers, or fractions
>>
>>8759071

That is exactly the same argument I made.

can't divide by zero. you could prove 0/0 is equal to any number
>>
I think you divided by zero there. It's illegal to do this.
>>
This proof is merely a demonstration of why algebra does not allow anything to be divided by zero. We find that anything can be equal to anything. if you rearrange the equation the result remains true.
