Math has no future.
Pattern Matching will replace it in the next 20 years.

"Math" will be like saying "Horse Drawn Carriage" in 20 years. You brainlets are too stupid to realize this as well. Although there is a possibility that "math" the word can just be remapped to include pattern matching so you ignorant shitbrains can feel good about being dumb.

Math and Science are dead or dying. They are useless and obsolete concepts designed for primitive human societies without good technology. With good technology and proper ways of thinking there is no reason for such stupid concepts or at least a minimal and niche usage for them.

First of all, I know the Uncertainty Principle makes clear that we can't KNOW what the universe will look like in the future

But let's say we had two universes exactly identical. And then we let them "run". Would both of them follow the exact same path, or would "random" differences make them different over time?

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Laplace%27s_demon#Thermodynamic_irreversibility
> Laplace's demon met its end with early 19th century developments of the concepts of irreversibility, entropy, and the second law of thermodynamics.
>In other words, Laplace's demon was based on the premise of reversibility and classical mechanics; however, Ulanowicz points out that
>many thermodynamic processes are irreversible, so that if thermodynamic quantities are taken to be purely physical then no such demon is possible
>as one could not reconstruct past positions and momenta from the current state.

Nigger, the past isn't really "locked in" based on the universe's current state, let alone the future.
Expectations of determinism are based on classical mechanics, which can't explain entropy and the "arrow of time".
Might as well take that shit to /x/ with the UFO's, Bigfoot and scary ghosts.

I've watched 6 videos on the subject and none of them answer this simple question: If the atmosphere reflects heat back down to the Earth, but it also reflects heat away from the Earth, how is the net warming effect not 0? This seems like such a simple and necessary part of the greenhouse effect but NO ONE FUCKING EXPLAINS IT pic unrelated

The heat it reflects back is of different wavelengths than the heat that comes through.

Light heats up earth, earth gets hot, because earth isn't as hot as the sun it emits radiation at lower wavelengths than the sun emits. This radiation gets absorbed by gases in the atmosphere like CO2, or reflected back down by clouds

Is it a good idea to study sociology? So many people say it is a field that is infected with politics and others say it is not worth studying even if it wasn't.
It just sounds so incredibly interesting.

Karl Marx is literally and unironically regarded as a major contributor to what we understand modern sociology to be. So there's that.

I'm being sorta-spicy but in another sense not really. People can have a spirited debate about whether psychology and psychiatry are sciences, but at least the debate is tenable in those cases. Even math has rules, makes discoveries, etc. Once you get to sociology you're as close to being outside of "the sciences" as makes no difference. And in any event, you're certainly outside the hard sciences, of course.

"Sociology is a science." is a sentence that might reasonably be assigned a very low, yet non-zero truth value: 0.05, say. Even Marx presented tables of data and examples, and did simple number crunching in service of his arguments.

Now, just because I say that sociology is pretty much not-a-science /right now/, doesn't mean that I can't conceive of some future state of affairs where our understanding of reality is so good that we can analyze ourselves and make "ought" statements about how society is run, which are very much more like a science. But we're not there now because we all have our biases and are free to have them, and it's always near-impossible for any one (or any group) to be objective about itself.
>>
>>9029389
Yes, it's pseudoscience entirely based on ideology and politics. If you want to study it, be rigourous (as in, ensure the scientific legitimacy of what you're studying) and maybe attempt to contribute to reforming it. From it's inception it was like this, so it's best to ignore the core of it and make what you can out of the dregs.
>>
>>9029389
It is futile to separate politics from sociology as power relationships are essential to understanding social problems and characteristics. It is needed to understand the whole and in fact, in the Weber or Marx's approach, it's the only thing that matters.

STEM and Economics don't like Sociology (and other social sciences that they refuse to call science) because its reliance in non-quantitative (qualitative) indicators that have internal validity but not external validity, assuming that quantitative indicators are enough. But while quantitative indicators can easily demonstrate correlations, they generally have a hard time to prove causality, that why qualitative indicators are necessary.

It is a very interesting science, I would recommend it with Economics, but not the "statistics autism" economics but more "theory" economics, get away from microeconomics.

Chaos cannot exist.

Everything in the universe is sequential logical and only operates linearly, as does entropy. It is always in one line: forward. Chaos would require the universe to have to exist at all points in time in every physically/metaphysically possible way.

> Chaos would require the universe to have to exist at all points in time in every physically/metaphysically possible way.
It does.

But that doesn't really make it more chaotic, it makes it less chaotic. Everything that will happen exists from one perspective or another. Particles in motion take every possible path via superposition - that's why your glasses work.

"Chaos" is relative anyways. If unpredictability by humans is "chaos", then the universe contains practically infinite chaos. If disorganization is chaos, same, and if entropy is chaos, same again. Even if causality violations are thought of as chaos, then yes, there's nearly no end to the chaos.

But if chaos is defined as a complete abandonment of all explanation where all things are forever inexplicable from any perspective, fictional or otherwise, then, yes, there is no chaos.

Hello there /sci/ if you're smart as you say I have a math problem for you. Don't worry it'll be trivial for you if you're actually smart and no wannabe smart. So, here comes the problem:

Twenty random cards are placed in a row all face down. A turn consists of taking two adjacent cards where the left one is face up and the right one can be face up or face down and flipping them both. Show that this process must terminate. (with all the cards facing up).

And for you who will say it's my homework. No it isn't. So waiting for your answers. Good luck. Pic unrelated.

>A turn consists of taking two adjacent cards where the left one is face up and the right one can be face up or face down and flipping them both.

not clear to me... so first turn you flip the left one then you flip both?
>>
>>9031686

>>
>>9031692
Sorry for mistake. When you turn one card you turn other card to the right of that card you just turned. Example:
You have two face down cards, when you turn one to the left, up you must turn other card too.

Picture this:

An orangutan, a wolf and a deer are in a room. They are held in three separate cages that are designed to allow for the animals to look at each other through the cages, but cannot touch each other. The cages are all connected to each other with doors that are controlled remotely.

The door separating the wolf and deer's cages is then opened, where the wolf will almost surely kill the deer.

1. Would the orangutan try and help the deer/attack the wolf
2. Would the orangutan be stressed by the situation as it is not in danger
3. Would the orangutan do nothing and merely accept the wolf eating the deer

Can't find a job, not even one in fast food. What are some 'OTC' ways to kill myself? I already have access to a sedative to calm me, I just now need a poison. Cyanide seems fast and painless, would eating a bunch of apple seeds work? Are there readily available OTC chemicals that I could use to synthesize cyanide?

because ""people"" like to write one line equations while saving on the parenthesis

20 / (5 (2 * 2)) = 1

(20 / 5) * (2 * 2) = 16
>>
>>9030404
How would the old way get you one? Multiplication and division have equal precedence in the order of operations, and are solved left to right, so 20÷5(2×2) = 20÷5×4 = 4×4=16.

Hello Anons, I want to better understand the data published in medical journals and the thing that's constantly impeding me is my ability to understand the stats they use.

None of the techniques seem that complicated (It seems to be mostly different types of regression analysis with weird set-ups so they can hack their p-value, something I see a lot is where they have a study where they get nothing significant, then do sub-group analysis to claim they've found something and I'm not really sure how to evaluate this, sometimes there's more complicated stuff like PCA), however, most of the books I've come across that explicitly deal with medical stats are either exorbitantly expensive or look mind-numbingly dull.

tl;dr: Are there any Doctors or people who work in healthcare reasearch that can suggest a good intro to medical stats book for me?

Now is it me, or are these ridiculous iterations of "beyond infinity" theories just taking the fucking piss with us?

All they do right, is map an (theoretical, obviously) infinity. And then proceed to CONCATENATE other theoretical infinite lists to that. Like that retarded infinite dictionary "Hyperhipster" shit.

>Lets make a list of all possible words, start with 'a', then "aa", then "aaa" ... infinite
>AND AFTER INFINITY
>"ab" "aba" "abaa"
>ALSO TILL INFINITY AND AT THE END OF THAT INFINITY...??????????

>At the end of infinity

>At the end of infinity, add...

>At ThE EnD oF iNFiNitY

How retarded is that? Just like the Banach–Tarski Paradox, you're implying you can "take away" and "add" to infinity. The sole fucking concept of infinity is that it's NOT A FUCKING LIST. It's infinity. You have one. If there's an infinite something there will be nothing else. You can't have your 'a', "aa", "aaa" book AND a 'b' "bb" "bbb" in the same fucking universe.

Lets agree that dumb people only do this arbitrarily on paper because severe autism and detachment of reality please.
