Well /sci/, what do you major in? Do you like it? What are your future prospects? What are your peers like?
http://www.strawpoll.me/13391529
just finished my second year, soon to decide if i should do bio or chem. looks right now like i'm gonna either do bioengineering or patent law for grad.

>math at the top
My man. Royalty like me should not have to put in the effort to scroll down and I am glad you know that.
Junior in EE in the fall. I wanted to do Physics desu but too late now to graduate in 4 years in that. Doing applied physics stuff in EE anyways. Planning on grad school, MS for sure, maybe PhD if I really want to later down the line. Peers seem alright, I dont really have any friends or talk to anyone in my EE major, all my friends are in other majora.
What textbook(s) are you currently reading?
What is your favorite textbook of all time?
Pic related is what I'm currently reading.
>>9020114
This is a great gateway book into higher level mathematics. My favorite book so far.
After reading this cover to cover I plan to dig into abstract algebra.
>>9020332
Top tier book m80.
Here's another top tier book: https://www.math.wisc.edu/~keisler/calc.html
Let a, b, and c be integers.
[math]a^3+b^3+c^3 = 33[/math]
Only brainlets can't find a solution to this problem.
>>9018430
33 means you only have to check less than 10 solutions. At least make it hard for idiots.
>>9018430
a = 0
b = 0
c = [math]\sqrt[3]{33}[/math]
>>9018436
It's integers not naturals.
Though not a popular subject over here.
I'm trying to make a nutritional meal with the OPTIMAL amount of macronutrients and vitamins.
Can someone assist me in finding peer reviewed articles that demonstrate the most effective nutritional profile for health and fullness as a meal.
>>9025841
no, I don't think anyone anywhere can
fake science disciplines tend to publish contradictory studies all the time
I would go for variety, high protein, tons of different colors of veggies
>>9025841
You are wasting your time. It's not a knowable thing. Too individual. Not to mention everyone is clueless to the point they couldn't design a good study if they tried.
Start with food allergy tests to make sure you aren't reacting to proteins in this or that.
Then just stick to the most nutrient dense foods like greens, butter, sea salt, grass fed meats and offal (organ meat).
Then just see how you look and feel. You'll figure out you feel amazing with more fat I predict.
>>9025849
I am actually kind of shocked to here fake science publications exist. I always thought that was the purpose of peer reviews. Being in the field myself it is disheartening to hear.
For what purpose? Funded by companies in order to create confusion and demonstrate certain ingredients are not detrimental?
I like the variety and veggie advice , thank you.
Hey /sci/ I am like really smart, literally almost a genius, but I always have problems with Pitagoras because I forget wich side is wich, can you help me? Is for my uni homework
>>9025772
The shortest side is the hypotenuse, the side relative to the main angle is called the adjacent and the side on the other side of the non-adjacent angle is called the opposite.
>>9025777
Wow you are really smart, you should getva degree in science or something, thanks btw

What did I tell you, OP?
How long until immortality and how much will it cost?
you are immortal right now, prove me wrong
>>9025674
An ass would say: Never
Pessimist would say: 40 years.
Optimists would say: 10-20 years
A guy who doesn't worry about it says: Don't worry about it. If it happens, it does.
>>9025674
>How long until immortality and how much will it cost?
if you're under 30 then probably in your lifetime. But it will not be available for sale and only the extremely rich and politically connected will get access to it.
Is it a cognitive enhancer somehow? What benefits can I expect? Do you exercise?
>>9025647
Or is it a meme?
>>9025647
>What benefits can I expect?
Not feeling like shit
>>9025647
exercise and being skinny in general has been shown to improve mental health
Thought experiment regarding Heisenberg Cut and the role of a conscious observer, based on the fact that the double slit detectors are not what's actually collapsing the waveform:
>Train a dog to bark when a monitor goes white, do nothing while it's dark
>Connect monitor to particle detectors of a double slit experiment
The dog is a "lower" consciousness than humans, I think it can be agreed upon. Is the dog in a superposition until a human hears him bark?
If not, what if we trained a rat to press a button instead. Is the rat in a superposition until we register the button press?
If not, what if we hooked up the detectors to some UV lamps over some agar plates and grew some bacteria. When they filled the dish, an alarm sounds. Are the bacteria in a superposition until we hear the alarm?
If not, where do we draw the line? Consciousness discussion, basically.
>>9025573
Why such a hostile response? Does the question not have an answer, or do you just not understand the question?
>>9025577
>or do you just not understand the question?
I think it's OP who doesn't understand his own question. Double slit has nothing to do with consciousness, but with an observer. In terms of physics, a rock can be an observer, if the rock is interacting with it somehow.
why are electrical engineers the most right wing people in science?
Because H1B and Asia are taking their jobs or lowering the wages. Either chinks or the govt shilling STEM causing old dogs get laid while new grads are flooding the market and replacing them for a fraction of the cost.
After all this they find themselves in the software side because EE has negative job growth. I wouldnt want to be a EE
>>9025093
Pajeets take CS jobs and lower the wages, yet half CS students and graduates are trannies, Redditors or commies.
>>9025084
could be because a large aspect of electrical engineering involves moving numbers and resource management.
I'm going to a sub 5'2" MTF orgy in two days and need to get rid of this zit. What /sci/ approved techniques are out there to get this gone?

Are these anime girl problems actually hard or not?
t. brainlet
>>9024657
You should be able to solve this.
>>9024657
I prefer the ones with Kurisu on it.
Another one
Consider all the things that occur within a single square meter of the universe.
What would be the computational power needed to comprehensively simulate everything that occurs within it?
Your computer operates at gigahertz, billions of clock cycles per second. What would be the actual time-step between each "frame" of the universe?
Consider that such a process is occurring throughout all of the known universe.
Why would such power be wasted in such a way?

Each dot in this image represents not a star, but an entire galaxy. The position and state of every particle is updated with exceedingly high frequency.

>>9023429
You would have to have some pretty beefy stuff. You would have to start with quantum foam and work your way up, simulating every law that's in existence, and I guarantee if we successfully did it with modern tech it'd be more like a 500cm instead of 1m. You have to model electron clouds, atoms, density of the gas or absense of. You'd probably have to run a supercomputer, because successfully doing it means you can run a simulation of theoretically /anything/ in that square meter. You could model a full human face in 100% detail down to individual workings of synapses. Think that's modern tech?

/sci/, I need your help. I'm writing a math joke to impress my math major friends, but I've not even halfway done and I'm completely blocked. Please help me finish.
Will greentext what I've got so far:
>Deferential equations.
>>9023004
>halfway done
>with a joke
It's either funny or it's not, it's not halfway to funny. And "deferential equations" isn't really funny at all, especially with no context.
>>9023010
>especially with no context.
Yes, this is what I need. Please help. There is much at stake.
>>9023004
math isn't funny, but majors in math are the butt of the joke
I found this little bugger...about 2-3 feet long, with digging claws, a WIDE salamander like face, but...nails, with mammal like hind legs, a completely hairless and slippery skin, and...NO bone structure in its front, a salamander like face, I am assuming it's dogfish, or woodchuck...but NONE have been confirmed and my neighborhood is buzzing about this thing. It was found and seen by dozens and was found on the back bay near a creek...no woodchuck could or I THINK could get to, however NO fish has digging claws with the nails. I thought of decomposition, however that occurs in a spotty and incongruent way...not a complete lack of any hair or sign of it, no sign of any facial mammalian like face, I'm and we are ALL baffled as it's not put in an area of ALOT of traffick where people would find it, but in a VERY mucky salt/brackish creek opening to a shallow and small bay that leads to the Ocean. It's near where TWA Flight 800 exploded, and actually is where the plane was brought in and everything East Moriches NY. We had Plum island Animal laboratory which the tides would pull any strange...thing toward the south shore, we have so, so, so many strange and abnormal events (Brookhaven National Lab, a Airbase, and submarine base off the coast), the wetlands are very unique and part of a former OLLLDDD chemically filled duck farm that flows to the end...it's certainly an area where if a species was to be found it would be here. It's likely some prank, (very elaborate), or animal that had an astronomically small chance of uniform decomposition but...idk and it creeped me out all day and it did with everyone. ANY answers appreciated. Thanks
I'm quite sure it's a monster. Please contact your local authorities
More pics of the thing...idk what the hell it is...
Here, idc just tell me wtf it is?
