Would it be alright to keep a fire extinguisher in my car for maybe an hour or so? I know you're not suppose to leave it in overnight for obvious reasons, but in hot climate would it be alright in a covered area for about an hour or so?

I typically go offroading after going to car meets and don't want to take it out and walk around with it like an autist while I oggle cars

>>
What are those obvious reasons?

Nobody takes the extinguisher out regularly. They survive for years in commercial vehicles and I've not had any problems with mine in GA heat. It won't explode, at least; there are safety valves to prevent that.

http://articles.latimes.com/1991-02-07/news/vw-1008_1_fire-extinguishers

>Underwriters Laboratory, a product testing organization, requires that fire extinguishers be safely stored at between minus-40 and plus-120 degrees, a temperature range that is posted on all extinguisher labels. But the laboratory also has a requirement that extinguishers survive an exposure of 175 degrees for seven days, which is not stated on the label.

Desperately need a low budget car with flip up headlights that isn't going to need work, preferably on from japan/made in japan

>inb4 Miata

I know it's kinda dumb to ask for but everyone has that one thing they like about cars, mine is flip up head lights

I'm 18, living with parents because no where to say AND I'm planning on college NEXT year, so I'm trying to save as much money as possible by not renting a house. my parents are willing to help me get a car because of this

They won't buy shit cars or cars that are too old.

Literally Miata

Why don't you want a Miata?

It's unbelievably reliable, incredibly easy to work on, ABSOLUTELY MASSIVE aftermarket, every issue has been encountered and solved, common enough to find one in good condition, cheap, etc.

The A/C's are over-engineered. They just fucking suck, and the replacement parts haven't been made in well over a decade. What that means is, if you get the Red Light of Death on the A/C button, you're fucked right straight in the ass.

The A/C compressor shares the same belt as the alternator. Because of this, Honda decided to put a sensor on the compressor to monitor RPM's. That way, if the compressor locks up or isn't spinning right, it won't take the alternator out with it, allowing you to still drive the car.

I guess they thought this was a good idea, because serpentine belts really weren't a thing yet, so they wanted to play it safe.

Anyway, that circuit is FUCKING FRAGILE. They ain't cheap, either. And if yours goes out, because they haven't been made since the 90's, good fucking luck. IF, and that's a big fucking IF, IF you find a NOS part, prepare your anus. And don't be surprised if that fails in a couple years, too.

But other than that? God I miss mine. I had an 89 Si with a 5 speed that was just dead fucking sexy. I sold it because it needed a clutch, and the clutch job was about what the car was worth. At the time, I didn't have the tools or even an appropriate area to do the job myself. Other than the non-functional A/C because of that stupid fucking module, it was a blast to drive. Had I gotten the 4WS version, I would have never sold it.

So I just saw a thread online about rev matched downshifts where more than half the people there were saying it's unnecessary with modern synchros and transmissions unless you're on a race track.

I'm trying to comprehend how these people drive and I really can't understand. If I downshifted without rev matching my car would dive down violently and feel like shit.
Are these people just used to that? Do they just slip the clutch to get a smooth downshift instead? That would be useless if you're trying to go faster.

What does /o/ think about non-rev matched downshifts?

most people think that cars should constantly be in the highest gear possible and that high revs are bad for the engine. To that end they keep the car in gear until they have slowed down to an appropriate speed for the lower gear, and lug the shit out of the engine doing so. This attitude is very prevalent in the UK despite a very high %age of manuals because a lot of people under 35-40 learnt on diesels where you're less likely to notice that dropping to 1000rpm in 4th isn't good driving.
>>
>>17810623
my brakes went out on a track day and i used really heavy clutch braking to stop the car. does this help any?
>>
>>17810654
>more engine noise
>higher fuel consumption
>more oil changes
>less engine lifespan
There's no reason to drive at high RPM. As long as the tachometer is over 1000 RPM and the car isn't struggling to keep up (i.e. 3 rd gear at 30 Km/h on a flat road) you're good. There's a reason all automatic transmissions change around 3000 RPM instead of waiting until the engine reaches it's peak performance.
