Is he worth reading?

People say you have to see the plays instead.

It doesn't hurt at all to read him before watching the plays live.
>>
>>9815109
I definitely disagree but that's maybe just my inability to comprehend him immediately speaking for itself. I feel like something like Hamlet for example has to be read slowly first so you can understand every line. After you do that twice or so watching it you'll understand everything they're saying, which is a cool experience to work towards. I remember being convinced Shakespeare wasnt for me when I couldn't follow Hamlet live at all. Only when I invested hours into understanding it did I truly realize the greatness of Shakespeare.

I don't really see why reading Shakespeare's plays is mutually exclusive with seeing them on stage. In fact, I think that both activities should go hand in hand. If you just read the plays, unless your imagination is that fucking wild and vivid, you'll miss many details that the play on stage provides; if you just watch the play on stage, many details that the slow, careful reading of the lines rush by without you even noticing them.
What I do, if it has any value for someone else, is to read the play I'm interested on, then watch the play (the Globe on Stage productions are really good), and then I read the play again.

How do you fully concentrate and immerse yourself while reading? I could never do it.

Is this always the case? For me, I'm having a hard time concentrating on F. Scott Fitzgerald's The great Gatsby, as the prose reads like thick fog, while I had an easier time concentrating while reading Infinite Jest.

How have book sales fared in recent years? With the advent of smartphone culture, I'd guess less books are being sold, but ebooks are a thing too, now.

just read this (Megashark translation). although it's a good novel and D has a great understanding of the mind i'd say it's basically a pastiche of gogol's diary of a madman, with a little influence from the OVercoat. thoughts?

I want to study the rhetoric of the left- and right-wing to counter it. Where should I begin? Are there books that can help me or should I just analyse texts from left- and right-wing authors?

What would you reccomend instead? Reasons To Vote For Republicans?

If you ask me, I'm gonna say 100% it would be exact copypaste with a few choice words replaced.

So the first two Lector books weren't that awful, for crime novels.

silence of the lambs was a quantum leap in quality over red dragon, which was a solid, intermittently inspired thriller/horror/crime novel.

hannibal was readable, particularly in the context of jonesing for another hit o' dat sotl magic. but it was sub-red dragon quality-wise, if memory serves, though it certainly worked very hard at delivering up iconic scenes, and did have its moments. but it kind of made me give up on thos. harris. he shot his wad with sotl.

>for a crime novel

Red Dragon, I thought, was the most "fun" of the bunch, with Silence of the Lambs pretty comparable in quality, if not a little better, though a little less enjoyable.

Hannibal was Harris trying hard to replicate what he did on the previous two books, though it had its moments. The ending definitely squashed any hopes that people would have of it having any kind of legacy outside the movies.

And then there's Hannibal Rising, a turd from start to finish. He didn't even want to write it, but was bullied into it by a Hollywood producer who said he'd make the movie with or without a book to base it off of, and if Harris wrote the book he'd get to make money from the screenplay, as well. It's really, really bad, and I wouldn't recommend anyone read it unless they're masochists.

On a related note, has anyone here read Black Friday? I never got around to that one, but heard it's better than the last two Hannibal books.

I haven't seen this get axed here before, so I wanna hear y'alls opinions.

Can I browse Facebook and text on a kindle paperwhite? I don't read much besides the Harry Potter Series but I like the black and white screen.

Had Kobo Glo for a good year or so now and still enjoying reading pirated books on it. Please don't give your money to Amazon, Kindle or the Kobo store.

I never do, but it can supposedly browse the web too (probably without JavaScript nor cookies)
>>
I tried for a little while(2 months). I couldn't stay consistent with the reading though. I assume it's because I'm used to browsing youtube/google on a tablet, thus I couldn't take the reading seriously.

May be different for others. Seems pretty good for traveling?

>I haven't seen this get axed here before, so I wanna hear y'alls opinions.

One of the best things I've ever bought. It pays for itself once you read 5 or 6 books and the reading experience is pretty good.

>Can I browse Facebook and text on a kindle paperwhite? I don't read much besides the Harry Potter Series but I like the black and white screen.

No, it's something you use solely for reading. Full stop. The browser is just for show.

If you want to do anything else besides reading just get an android tablet. If you're serious about reading then get a Kindle and install the app on your mobile phone.

Far shot, but has any of you read a book on the "A Companion to..." film director series? As a slow reader who's never formally read any film theory book it's kind of a wild decision to start here (long 'obscure' book), but I feel compelled to because I'm very very interested on the work of this man, and just out of an impression from the pages I glanced through, it looks interesting.

Hollywood (read: jews) prevents any meaningful screenwriting from being produced.
>>
>>9814399

Screenwriters who aren't directors as well will never get proper credit for their work because of auteur theory and because of the fact that screenplays aren't published for public consumption the way that play manuscripts are.
