Why is everyone in this book being kind of a dick to each other all the time?
They instantly laugh it off and go back to being best friends (they all start being the most bestest friends real fast too) but there is still this air of everyone being kind of a cunt

It's a British thing
>this frog shit is supposed to be superior to Harry Potter
>>9808115
I'll accept that, I guess the concept of banter and whatnot plays into that sort of relationship as well

It's a toad. His name is Mr. Toad there really is no confusing him for a frog
Are there any good books which have the moral/a strong sense that human beings are largely impotent to truly overcome suffering, cowardly, wretched, uncertain and so the only worthwhile response is find the courage to fashion yourself to respond with love, abundance perhaps playfulness to the extent you can.
In my best moments this seems like the only task worth doing but then 15 minutes later I tend to not even be bothered with that either. Perhaps better minds can expand that sense in me/us

Original Tao: Inward Training (nei-yeh) and the Foundations of Taoist Mysticism
The Einstein Factor is a nice guide to mental visualization or 'image streaming', which is a little more grounded rationally than techniques based on mysticism.
I really enjoyed 10% happier.
Its written from the perspective of a sceptic who doesn't go for new age mumbo jumbo, but learned to love meditation.
We write a postmodern YA doorstopper. didn't work last time because people wanted a strict plot outline. I say we follow a very loose one. I propose a book about a highshool or university inhabited by regular people and also all our favorite authors. That's it. Do with it what you please. It works for a postmodern book because different people can write about the same author and it could just be a different day or different time. We wouldn't even have to change the world we live in. Current year is funny enough. Trump is president, fake news runs rampant, liberals taking things to extremes (gender neutral birth certificates in Ontario lmao). I think it would be pretty funny. Maybe one thing we should all include is the fact that Sylvia Platt a student of the school killed herself.
Kys, TLOTIAT was a one time thing that opened a new literary movement. You can't replicate that.

Guys that struggled at first with reading daily and constantly, how did you get better at it?
I've been told to try to find a book more compelling to me, but I've tried a few things and I don't really get that sucked in. I start reading an hour daily but then after a week I really get bored and while I read I just desire to finish the hour, don't enjoy it.
I want to read and become more cultured. Any tips to get the habit going?
>>9807204
idk man. if you are new to reading then you're going to have to read a bit before you discover what your tastes are. once you figure that out then it's all downhill. don't waste time on what you think you should read, focus on what you find enjoyable and google around.

Read a page-turner
your attention span is fucked. take a break from the phone checking and internet use, take a break from 4chan. Or just listen to audiobooks, there's no shame in putting on a book while doing other things

Where the fuck do I even start with eastern philosophy?
Also, has anyone seen the rediculous size of buddha's teachings, literally hundreds of volumes.
Is there a condensed version for whitey?
>>9806514
the Buddha taught for like 50+ years so naturally there is a fuckton of shit even from just his lifetime
the Dhamapada is a good start
stay away from Zen stuff at first even though its popular because you may get the wrong ideas without the initial foundation, and maybe look into Chinese Chan rather than Japanese Zen to begin
the Thai forest tradition is interesting as well

>the Buddha taught for like 50+ years so naturally there is a fuckton of shit even from just his lifetime
No there isn't. There is the exact opposite of a fuckton. There is absolutely nothing.
