hey /lit/ I'm being tasked with writing a creative bio, yet I'm not creative at all. Could you guys give me examples of creative bios you guys can write (about yourself or anything). Here's a guideline: 150-200 words, don't be afraid to add humor, and include whatever you want to and be creative

What is up with every faux-deep fags obsession with beat poetry?
4 posts and 1 images submitted.
>>
It takes no skill and it was a fashion movement - it attracts pseuds who just want to be seen as avant garde instead of actually culture jamming. That being said there were good beats like Burroughs but they would've been around had the beat movement not happened, if that makes sense.

It's honestly no different than a meme subculture like vaporwave. Beatniks are the meme weed kids of the 50's and 60's (also attracts womemes)

*what is up with amerifats thinking their fastfood version of existentialism is special
>>
are people today still obsessed with the beats? I sure haven't met any. I think you're responding to a stereotype, one historically based in the movement's original following when the style was still edgy and underground.

but i think a better answer is that the beats appealed to a youthfulness and rebelliousness in their work akin to the punk or hippie movements. they were also new and controversial. this kind of stuff obvious appeals to kids, it's subject matter they can relate to and it looks like a cutting edge they want to be a part of. why are they faux-deep? because they're young and stupid, but they're searching for the answers.

Beckett was an incredibly boring guy IRL apparently.

Does knowing more about the author help or hinder understanding?
Should the work speak for itself, as Beckett usually suggested?

He was just bee-ing himself. What did you expect of someone who wrote books about the bleak sterility of life?
I find his collected letters quite charming, but if you're looking for some kind of revelation (and surely it is at hand?), look elsewhere. He simply doesn't discuss his works, period. The most you'll get are some extra stage instructions and why it's important that the pants drop at the end of Godot.

I hate how literature is marketed as fun but people are held hostage by pseudo intellectual threats of their place in the pseud hierarchy.

>Bro, Joyce is fun! Read it bro!
>OMG! You didn't like Finnegans Wake? You didn't enjoy a shitload of allusions?! What a pleb! Book quality is objective!

And it's so obvious that many old books were written as pulpy disposable fun but are now revered by pretentious people for supposedly having "stunning philosophical and psychological insights!"

Seeing people on lit talk about university or even certain university courses as being necessary for writing good books shows the level of idiocy in literary culture.

Seeing people talk about reading prose books to learn maths makes e realise that some people are too dumb to realise that literary subjects no longer make up all intellectual activities.

Tho not only a book about mytholohy and shiet, "The Ancient City" by Fustel de Coulanges is a realy cool book. Maybe a bit academic, because it isen't only 'bout myths, but more 'bout the evolution of greek society and their religion and stuff.
Is a very cool book, so far I have read, tho it can be a bit dry too.
And all my teachers on college say the book is gud, so, yeah...

Just started Snowcrash for my first Stephenson novel. So far it's fun but the irreverence feels so 90s grunge/silicon valley smug. Is this a commonality amongst his books?

Is it true that reading books makes you more intelligent than watching TV or doing any other hobbie?
If so, explain it

There is premise for a thread here, but you failed to grasp it.
So it's shit.
You wrote such a dumb post that I'd need to write at least a thousand characters to get to the subject you originally wanted to make a thread on.

Books force you to use your brain to create images, to logically bridge gaps in your knowledge, and to keep track of complex things. Of course, that also depends on what you're reading in the first place: the more your literature edges towards children's literature, the less you need to exert effort.

Nonetheless, you shouldn't read books for "intelligence". That's just retarded. Read for knowledge or for enjoyment.

Unless you spend your entire day watching historical documentaries, then basically, yes, on the entire basis that when you're watching TV you're filling your head up with useless fluff information (memorizing imagined characters with imagined backstories and imagined relationships, none of it is real or tangible or affects your relationship with the outside world beyond relating to other stupid people that watch the same shit) that is presented in a format of bite-size, digestible pieces that refuse to be expounded upon so that it can presented in concise, 23-minute episodes.

I could go on, but I have to go.

don't bother. It's awful.
Picked it up at a flea market and I couldn't stomach it. More than that- I couldn't stop thinking about how fucking horribly cast the movie was. The whole time- it was like the entire left side of brain was cramping up while was reading it. A blond, long haired Tom Cruise? Are you kidding me?

"Kinch, y'ever knock a nasty squishy shit from your buttocks and wonda how it came to be? What the ever livin fuck did I have for breakfast yesterday? Perhaps a bit of grilled bone, some spotted dick in the pub? Deus miserere in ano est. God don't listen Kinch, do he! He put a goddamned squelchy poop in your colon, and to top it off, make it juicy. This, they know this and design accordingly. Stephen King is one of the most well-known and loved authors. His name is more important than the title and premise for sales.
