To those of you who have done an English degree at a college/university, how long did your 10,000ish word dissertation take? (I think Americans would call it a bachelor thesis, if the word dissertation means nothing to you)

Googling it, people seem to range from the opinion that you can do it in a week easily, to the opinion that if you haven't started 6 months in advance you're screwed.

I didn't write a thesis. The whole program was a joke, and the degree is utterly worthless. At least I made some cool friends and fucked some hot chicks.

I already had a thesis in mind by the middle of my junior year and a lot of potential research angles. Going from there about a semester to research, two weeks to write, two weeks to edit and revise, 39 pages in total.

Has there ever been a comic book that's been published by a university, or perhaps another literary publisher besides New York Review?

Reading the Valis trilogy about halfway through Divine Invasion and enjoying it. (I've read the novel collection and thsee are the final three).
Now I'm wondering if the Exegesis is worth getting, it's almost my birthday and gotta come up with a present my parents can give
Can someone give comparison of the trilogy and the exegesis.
Or just a description of it, is it readable? interesting relating to the novels?
I wouldn't mind having a view in his mind but if it's unreadable...

Or, nonenglish native so not sure if this or is correct, give your view on it.

Also: I don't mind doing some research to understand parts better I. E. Reading historical texts or other books.

Tl:dr;
How did you end up here?
Also: a quick rundown of the exegesis in a sales pitch.

I havent read it yet but what kind of shitty parents do you have that a 10$ book is what you're hoping for.

Hard cover it's 37 something euro.
Not shitty at all, they still want to give a present that I might/hopefully enjoy.

Is there a book that you've found to be better in one edition than the other?
Maybe the cover appeals to you, or it's a hardback with a really good binding, or you really like the ones with the ribbon in the spine for a bookmark.
Maybe it has a different foreword from a different printing, or this one comes with annotations.
Or maybe you prefer separate volumes that you can carry in a pocket rather than an Omnibus.

actually yes
i have the folio society edition of the sound and the fury
it's printed with the text in different colours for the different timeline fragments
apparently this is what faulkner wanted but printing technology wasn't up to it at the time
anyway it makes the book a lot more readable

Has anyone read Styx his "Against Communism: A Tract Against an Absurd Ideology"

I like his vids, but I don't think enough of him to want to read his book. Same with any other YouTube intellectuals.
>>
>>9239138
Someone needs to tell him that this blurb is terrible:
Communism is often mentioned even now long after the extinction of many regimes claiming the title; the Soviets, Pol Pot's Khmer Rouge, and many more. In retrospect, observing human history and biology, what can be said regarding this system? I here delve into my own judgment of the same; its weaknesses and failures, why its offshoots are almost as unreasonably bad, and the central problem with Marx and his own theories, why, specifically, he built a philosophical system so completely lacking in merit.
>>
>>9239154
I've bought two of his books. I like reading them because they are written by Styx but the writing itself is amateurish.

Would you say Sam Harris is 'Star Trek TNG' and Jordan Peterson more 'Lord of the Rings'?

One is about secularism and rationality and slightly autistic, the other is obsessed with archetypes and good vs. Evil?

So I went to the library today just to pass the time and I was sitting there reading, minding my own business when this dodgy looking man comes up to me and asks if i know what time the library closes. I thought he genuinely wanted to know so I told him it closes at eight. But then he asks me if the book im reading is any good (Harry potter and the cursed child). Not wishing to engage in further conversation, i tell him yes and return to by book. Then he asks if the other harry potter books are good, and I say yes they are, trying to make myself quite clear that I wish to be alone, at which point he goes away.

I'm just surprised and slightly disturbed at the desperate measures guys will resort to with complete strangers just to get the attention of someone from the opposite sex. I'm not even remotely attractive, and if this happens again I intend to make myself quite clear and say that I just wish to read my book in peace.
It was just a bit pathetic and creepy really and it ruined my inner peace just a little bit. Not a lot, just a bit. I shouldnt have to endure that. And in a library too, of all places.

If anyone in line towards our certain doom cares enough to shake the hand of the girl next to you and try to accomplish something more then a simple conversation, or worse no conversation at all. Please do so now.

Lets show this sexually starved woman with a immature and abhorrent taste in books the time of her life!

I'm the shitty poet. Will someone let me fuck their wife?

Does /lit/ take notes on books, use post-it notes or other tools to highlight certain passagens? I'm thinking of doing a careful analysis of a certain trilogy from a local writer and wondered how I could organize my reading. I've got a bunch of post-it notes from different sizes/colors/shapes and want to use them effectively. I also bought a small notebook to jot down a few of my thoughts about the novels. Are there any English majors here who have done in-depth analysis of books? How did you approach the work in question?
