What are your milestones or feelgood moments when learning a new language?
For me it's Latin.
>you dream in the language
>you are awake at night with passages and chopped phrases running through your mind
>you have your first natural thought in the language
>you get a more-than-solid grip on the grammar rules and vocabulary and start getting excited when thinking about what language you should learn next (Greek? Oh hell yes.)
>you see your vocabulary in your mother tongue improve
>you appreciate poetry and prose in your mother tongue because of your new taste for syntax
>you start translating and when you stop to match your translation with a known translator, and you nail it
>you realize while some of it works in translation, the majority of it doesn't
>you start translating Cicero and Oxen of the Sun comes to mind
Japanese is beautiful.
It's sad that the consensus is that it's hard for an English native. Just stick to it, it's gorgeous
I dream in Spanish sometimes, Japanese isn't as common
I haven't hit any of those milestones.
I just read Oreberg and feel sad about my life choices whenever I look at actual Latin.

Three hours' worth. Gonna do some editing later.
I've been working hard on [Ulysses] all day," said Joyce.
Does that mean that you have written a great deal?" I said.
Two sentences," said Joyce.
I looked sideways but Joyce was not smiling. I thought of [French novelist Gustave] Flaubert. "You've been seeking the mot juste?" I said.
No," said Joyce. "I have the words already. What I am seeking is the perfect order of words in the sentence.”

>Overall just an idiot
based on what? he always seemed intelligent to me. insane, but intelligent.
>Being pedophile (well almost).

What's stopping you from living sincerely?
>>9321279
cynicism and irony are the means by which we unconsciously protect the part of our selves which we feel is incompatible with the world as it is and yet still consider sacred
it also tends to act as a tool to 'test' anyone claiming to be in possession of 'the real deal'. any such person is invariably met with sarcasm and cynicism, and rightly so. the depth we must now possess to be real amid such unreality is rarer than anyone realizes
>living sincerely
lmao

case in point
Just got back from the bookstore. Everything here is new (to me) with the exception of The Illuminatus! Trilogy (which I'm currently reading). The Secret Societies Encyclopedia is really interesting. I'm happy with my haul. What does /lit/ think?
Post your stacks and rate other anons' stacks.

Where are the best places online to get second hand cheap physical books?
I'm a thirld worlder, so 20 bucks for a book seems a little expensive for me.
Do thrift shops not exist in the third world?
>>9321068
abebooks is pretty cheap - most titles, assuming its nothing really obscure, are around 4 USD. Don't know what locations they ship to or how that affects price, though.
>>9321068
one can find inexpensive used books on amazon but shipping to the third world is probably like a hundred dollars.
I know I'm not the only writer on this thread. If you've got a book, then I'd like to read it.
Post an image and whatever information you'd like about it. Include a link if possible.

Got a hardon in my fist,
Don't be pissed,
Re-enlist--
Snap--to, Slothrop!
Jackson, I don't give a fuck,
Just give me my "ruptured duck!"
Snap--to, Slothrop!
No one here can love or comprehend me,
They just look for someplace else to send...me...
Tap my head and mike my brain,
Stick that needle in my vein,
Slothrop, snap to!
Tried Proust magalomaniac work several times, only got in like page 60.
I really wanna read the whole thing.
Should I just bite the bullet and read it,
Any advices?
>wants to read the books
>should I read the books?
Yes, you should. Now shut your computer down, and go <<read>>.
>>9320988
I'm posting on my phone you stupid fuck. What's the point of shutting my PC down?
Last time I come to this /lit/hole with a legitimate question.
>>9320997
Oh wow, we'll surely miss you.
Sayonara, my friend.
>been reading books for more than 10 years now
>move to a warm place
>bugs and plants everywhere
>randomly roam among them for fun while not reading
>learn more about life from them in a couple of months

>/r9k/, the book
No.
it's full of neets, autists, depression, and bitterness towards the opposite sex.
i didnt mean it in a pejorative way, but reading this book is literally like scrolling through r9k's catalog
>>9320906
Whenever I try to read a book now, I find it difficult to imagine what anything or anybody in the story looks like.
I find myself searching for celebrities to play the roles in my head, and even then I have trouble keeping the appearances consistent
>>9320883
i just imagine all of the characters are your mom
>>9320886
This, especially when I read erotica. It's good to have a usual frame of reference on hand.
Explain how physical books are superior again?
>feelsbadman
Plus
>half of the written works in the uppermost book are not even from Socrates himself, they're just "Socratic"
I get to enjoy the permanence and experience of reading a hardcover book.
If they are old, worn books, the feel is even better.
here we go...
Because I actually read the complete works while you sit here posturing all day and shitposting.
