I would reccomend V or Gravity's Rainbow, you don't want to wean yourself onto Pynchon like some bad medicine, the density and overwhelming quality of his best works is the whole point. V and GR are similarly mosaic narratives that share a good number of themes and a few characters, your choice is really between the extreme cynicism of Gravity's Rainbow and the juvenile indifference of V.
