Literature recommendations?

If possible focused on the '90 and beyond, underground movement and rave culture.

I have read Terence McKenna, Deleuze and Guattari for the philosophy that could be behind party and drug use.

For the '60 hippie movement, Elektric Kool-Aid Acid Test by Tom Wolfe, Junkie (even if Burroughs would be a predecessor) and Philip K. Dick for the mental drug-induced (in)sanity. Also Pynchon for the paranoia.

I want to move forwards and get into the 90 and XXI century.
>>
Tao Lin could be a good option if it was not because he is more about the hikikomori part of this epoche and not the arcaic revival as McKenna says. Something, maybe, in that line, could be interesting.

Of course there should be contemporaneous and young authors because the point would be they to have lived that.

So I don't know, maybe in general authors who born arround 70-80?

Also Preciado is a fucking must but I don't think anyone here knows or could be interested in him.

I just read this last night and I spent the entire time repeating the words "This is reddit, this is memes, this is reddit, this is memes..." under my breath.

I fucking hated it. I was writhing around on the floor in front of my sofa for those last 30 pags it was so painful.

>Ayy quirky sci-fi lmao
If you liked it you're in the wrong place

I'm so glad that I never fell for this meme. Why do normies always recommend such shitty books? I had this recommended to me so many times when I was younger.

Looking to get into reading about ,music theory. I want to actually understand music than just enjoy it and read it. Any suggestions on entry level reading for music theory?

Funny, I just listened to that album last night. I have no clue there were books about music theory and I would be extremely surprised they are not all Hal Leonard "How To Play" pamphlets

I think it's useless if u don't play any instrument.

Music theory literally reflects on practical side: why would you learn what is the value of a crotchet if you don't use this shit for anything? Think about it.

Hahaaha yeah man Nietzsche said that there’s no meaning to life and I have ignored the fact that his work meant that with the death of God Christian morality was a redundant, anachronistic safety blanket for the intellectually unclean who would be lost without Christian values giving them a meaning in life and that we should drive to find the meaning of life through what humans can create in terms of art in all its forms wether it be music or literature or science or engineering what he meant is that it’s okay to smoke weed and watch CHILDRENS CARTOONS all day whilst engaging in meaningless casual sex because elevating yourself spiritually, intellectually or artistically would be fucking pointless man just smoke a bowl and pop a Xanax and let me cum on your thigh bby gurl xD

One of the songs is talking specifically about Humbert from Lolita. Also one of the themes is the growing leniency of casual sex. For example when what's his butts asks Oedipa if she wants to get down after the test to see if she is sensitive and her screwing the lawyer in the apartment after she first leaves San narciso. In all occasions sex is casual and meaningless. Only for fun.

It fits into a deeper message about isolation due to drugs and chasing desires.

How do I introduce someone to literature without scaring him away?

He admits genres are a marketing gimmick but continues to look for good writing in popular TV shows and cartoons. His favourites are always the ones he describes pleasant-looking, and he says reading plain text is boring. He's fairly intelligent compared to most people I've met but I'm at loss here. He never read in his childhood and apparently high school made him hate it.

He says he enjoys plot twists but it appears he really appreciates a good storyteller a great deal so I imagine it wouldn't be hard to make him shift towards narrative, with enough time.

What's a book that's relatively light to read but has a good story and deep characters? Or have you got a better suggestion?

yea. ive read all issues of this thing, and ive only ever read six other manga books, dont think ive ever seen more than a few episodes of any anime show, and just a handful of movies. it's a cat-and-mouse game plot, the first four issues are perfect. the rest aren't really worth reading, ton of filler, but if someone edited them down into their good parts there might be 3-4 issues worth of quality there. tried the anime adaptation, it's unwatchable.

>go to the library to quietly read books
>children are running around and screaming
>there is a playground outside and not one child in it
>the parents just dutifully follow behind their animalistic children meekly asking them to stop
>but take no action to stop or influence their behavior
Why?

>>9318205
Why would anyone take their children to the library in the first place? As for the behaviour, the parents are afraid of the kids. They're afraid to be angry with them when their squirming spawn well deserve it because we're supposed to teach our children acceptance and inclusiveness and things like that nowadays.

Feels good desu
I work in a dark isolated place all day long and get to tell kids and people to be quiet or leave.

Pretty sure my parents would leave me in the library while they went shopping. I'd just sit in a corner and read Asterix and Tintin books.

Can anyone suggest any books that deal heavily with solitude and descriptions of living in nature?
I thoroughly enjoyed Desert Solitaire and Into the Wild - and am looking for books of a similar nature (no pun intended.)

I haven't read any of these but I asked the same thing in a thread and I walked away with these recs: Walden, Blood Meridian, The Peregrine, and Whitman and Jeffers for poetry. Other than those, I keep shilling pic related on /lit/. It has gorgeous prose about the sea, land and men, not so much about living in solitude though.
