And why is it Sanderson?
>>9394077
I love the way he has multiple worlds connected through this big Cosmere with some characters crossed over. That just does it for me, along with his world-building.
>>9394077
Sanderson's stuff is borderline YA and I hope it doesn't have too much influence on the genre going forward.
What's your pen name?
What's the story behind your pen name and why'd you choose to adopt one?
Thomas Pynchon
Thought it sounded cute and I'm kinda shy
>what's your pen name
I don't want people to know it's a pen name when I get published. :x
>what's the story behind it and why'd I choose to adopt it??
The story's rather uninteresting; I based the core of it off of a song that I enjoyed, mingled it with another name I liked, and then fit it all up with gematria, in a similar theme to the names of the main protagonists of the series I've been in the process of writing.
The reason I chose to adopt one is because I loathe the convention of fame, and I want to be known for the quality of work I produce, not the personality behind the work. Compound this with the fact that many writers I admire used a nom de plume, and you have yourself a pen name.
My initials.
Why does /lit/ rarely discuss plays and playwrights?
>>9393948
>Shakespeare
>Corneille
>Racine
>Molière
>Plautus
We discuss them often.
If you mean broadway-tier modern playwrights, then perhaps you could check r/books?
>>9393966
Why do you instinctively categorise modern playwrights as /r/books?
I doubt you have ever really read them.
Eugene O'Neill
Harold Pinter
Tennessee Williams
Arthur Miller
Samuel Beckett
To name a few, are critically recognised as creative geniuses.

They're all great. (Not the guy you replied to). I woulda thrown Ionesco in there too.

What lit should I read to satiate my new identity?

Don Quixote, of course
Blindness by scaramango

Watch a bunch of Almodovar films, read a bunch of Lorca plays, and read Calderon's secular plays. Once you've done all that start reading his autos sacramentales.
Reading trough all this shit for THAT ending? What was Tolstoy thinking? Seriously, how were the last 100 pages even relevant to most of the story?
This. He worked so hard, got so far, then motherfucker fumbles the ball at 1 yard line.
As far as failures go, W&P is still a masterpiece, albeit flawed because he climbed up his own asshole.
This board is so polluted nowadays that you never know if someone is asking a sincere question or if they're just shitposting.

Of course he is, he just can't say openly or he will be simply banned from the major medias, while being treated as a menace in most of the countries he often visits.
He just implies it every once in a while, the major examples has been his initial endorsement for Trump, which he then cautiously recontextualized in order to keep mantaining his credibility.
He does not think that this system can be fixed, nor he is satisfied by the current state of humanity: obviously he sees a potential immense crisis as a possible push towards a new global project, which hopefully will be less corrupted and fallacious than this one.

Let me rephrase this question:
Do I have the mental fortitude to learn two dead languages that are equally hard to master in order ot read some really really old books.
The answer is no.
Learn programming or maths, a useful language.

>Do I have the mental fortitude to learn two dead languages that are equally hard to master in order ot read some really really old books.

wtf are you talking about, lots of people have done this kys
Don't listen to this guy. Classical languages really aren't that bad. They're significantly easier than modern languages because you don't need to get proficient at speaking fluidly or comprehending spoken words. You'll be fine if you dedicate a bit of time to it. How many hours per week does a class take? Just read desu.

The story of 1984 was about propaganda and how through the perspective of the party they can do no wrong and from the perspective of Winston they are all evil. Well we read the book through Winston's perspective and I think that INGSOC was good if you read it with an open mind. The ministry of plenty was giving them chocolate despite having to put up with a revolution and two wars. Propaganda is there but all good governments use propaganda. Ministry of peace was needed to protect them from fascist East-Asia and Eurasia. It all makes sense,w hat do you think of my theory?
Does auroral intent mean nothing?
I thought barthes was a meme
>>9393708
Sorry I have a low IQ and have no idea what Auroal intent means or what Barthes means.
When will <political group I agree with> realize that 1984 was meant to be an instruction manual, not a warning!
What would Socrates have said about whether or not pirating is a crime?
I don't buy movies now and listen to my music on YouTube and buy books simply because physical is much nicer and unless the ebooks are pennies but I'm feeling guilty for wanting to pirate because DS games are too expensive. I mean 30 quid for 10 year old games. Not even collector editions.
I understand not watching porn, stealing, adultering, murdering etc.
But I'm not convinced that pirating Ds games is illegal. However I'm contradicting myself because i also don't pirate games on the pc anymore. (But they go on sale and aren't fucking retarded prices)
I can't shake this guilty feeling however. I'm using neetbux (18 year old) and i dont want to waste it since it runs out in a few months.
Why i think it's wrong to download ROMs:
>Not supporting the devs
Why i think I'm justified
>Not stealing since I'm not depriving someone or shop of a copy that they then have to replace using their own money. I wasn't going to buy their game anyway because if i was unable to download it then I'd go without and not pay the rediculous price. However, because ROMs are so easily accessible and the process is much quicker, it's so tempting to just do it. Its not like I'm rich anyway.
On the other hand, i find it wrong and would never steal someone's expensive jeans or iPad for instance, even if it was lying around and knew i wouldn't get in trouble for it.
When i was a child i did steal a "friend's" GBA games (emerald) that he left lying about outside and forgot about but i felt too guilty when i was at home and returned it to him. However , there is tons of copies online and urgg.
I'm reading Plato and he obv says stealing is wrong but is this really different?
Or should i devote the next few months until i get a job to reading and abstaining from wasting time in the internet? Also i believe in God
>>9393509
1. get a job
2. stop playing games
3. stop baiting me
4. Socrates would tell you that stealing is wrong but so is giving money to an entity focused on robbing you of time and production.
5. Giving up the internet and focusing on reading is a great decision.
Ask yourself this question:
If you couldn't download it, would you buy it?
If the answer is yes, then yeah you will be stealing if you pirate it.
>>9393509
He'd probably say something gay like it is a crime but you should commit it as much as possible to stick it to society or some shit
