What would Socrates have said about whether or not pirating is a crime?
I don't buy movies now and listen to my music on YouTube and buy books simply because physical is much nicer and unless the ebooks are pennies but I'm feeling guilty for wanting to pirate because DS games are too expensive. I mean 30 quid for 10 year old games. Not even collector editions.
I understand not watching porn, stealing, adultering, murdering etc.
But I'm not convinced that pirating Ds games is illegal. However I'm contradicting myself because i also don't pirate games on the pc anymore. (But they go on sale and aren't fucking retarded prices)
I can't shake this guilty feeling however. I'm using neetbux (18 year old) and i dont want to waste it since it runs out in a few months.
Why i think it's wrong to download ROMs:

>Not stealing since I'm not depriving someone or shop of a copy that they then have to replace using their own money. I wasn't going to buy their game anyway because if i was unable to download it then I'd go without and not pay the rediculous price. However, because ROMs are so easily accessible and the process is much quicker, it's so tempting to just do it. Its not like I'm rich anyway.
On the other hand, i find it wrong and would never steal someone's expensive jeans or iPad for instance, even if it was lying around and knew i wouldn't get in trouble for it.
When i was a child i did steal a "friend's" GBA games (emerald) that he left lying about outside and forgot about but i felt too guilty when i was at home and returned it to him. However , there is tons of copies online and urgg.
I'm reading Plato and he obv says stealing is wrong but is this really different?
Or should i devote the next few months until i get a job to reading and abstaining from wasting time in the internet? Also i believe in God

5. Giving up the internet and focusing on reading is a great decision.

The cost of luxury goods isn't a moral issue. You aren't suffering the slightest hardship without that shit, so bitching about the price isn't a justification ethically (though it certainly is on a practical level). In order for Socrates to even weigh in on this, you'd have to spend days explaining all the bizarre terms and concepts involved, at the end of which he would still be less qualified to give an opinion than basically anyone on the street.
