Why do people like this book so much?
>muh racism
>muh southern charm
There are so many other books that accomplish the same themes; usually, they're way better than
>Atticus told me [thing] is bad, so it's bad since he's such a great guy
I don't understand the appeal. Is it because it's like mandatory high-school reading in America?

Because it's a well written book.

Because it ticks all the anti-white boxes you mentioned for the Common Core jew. Makes it perfect for youth indoctrination.

/lit/erary pet peeves thread.

What really gets your goat when you're reading, getting a new book, studying, discussing literature, etc?

>>
> go to bookstore
> try to buy a new book
> the exact book and edition I want is available but only one copy and that copy is covered in scratch marks, scuff marks, creases, etc

Seriously hate the people who thumb through a book so vigorously that they damage it and then they return it back to the shelf. Don't be a cunt. Buy the book. I also blame the bookstore for not chucking books treated like this in some sort of discount bin - nobody wants to pay full price for a book treated that badly.

No fucking wonder everyone buys their books online (if they buy their books at all of course).

It's worse when you can tell the person thumbing through it had been eating something at the time.

when a bookshelf isn't organised either by size or alphabetically. i think it's monstrous to just put all the books out of order on the shelf, really triggers my autism

also book collections that are exclusively young adult fiction are embarrassing too, genuinely

What did Nietzsche think about black people? Did he ever mention them?

It's safe to say he disliked them like nearly everyone before circa 1960s when liberalism poisoned the natural tribalism of the white race
>>

They were so insignificant as to never rouse his interest.

You seem to care though. I think his works are too advanced for you. You're better off reading something else.

Literature about nature.
33 posts and 4 images submitted.
>>
Most good books about nature are actually anti-nature. Blood Meridian, Butcher's Crossing, The Peregrine all warn against romanticizing the wilderness. Thoreau was a fucking hack.
>>
>>9576462
have you ever heard of poetry?
that's where the good nature stuff is. nature is more of a lyrical than narrative topic.

Whenever I revisit Shakespeare, I find all literature written after 1900 to be bland, and I don't want to read anything but Shakespeare.

Does anybody else have this problem?

are there any books yet that make sense of our current time? millenials, social media, sjws, alt right, identity politics, political identities, the rise of anti-humor, memes, mass botnet surveillance of everything, widespread postmodernism, widespread nihilism, mass shooters, 4chan, reddit, tumblr, lifestyle religiosity, jihad, NOT ALL MUSLIMS, internet addiction, porn addiction, vr porn, nationalism vs globalism, late capitalism, ETC ETC

nonfiction or fiction, looking for something that is to today what infinite jest was to the 90s. i'm sick of this world and it feels like the only way to freedom is understanding

When I raped Maggie Marie
I watched the blood dancing in her eyes
As I choked her lifeless body
I pushed further deep inside

That feeling was oh so fleeting
I could barely contain the high
When I raped Maggie Marie
My God was I alive

Who are the best reactionaries to read? I'd prefer nonfiction. Mishima, Evolva, etc. didn't do much for me. I watched the Evergreen State protests and am considering a shift to the right. Thanks for any recs. No Peterson/Molyneux please.

From contemporary or relatively newer philosophy I would recommend de Maistre, Jaques Maritain, Dietrich Hildebrand, Hilaire Belloc, Alasdair MacIntyre (personal favorite), Edward Feser, James V. Schall, David S. Oderberg, Elizabeth Amscombe, Peter Geach, G. K. Chesterton.
To get where they are coming from, Plato, Aristote, Augustine, Aquinas, Suarez, Catejan.

Does anybody else feel like Pessoa's "Book of Disquiet" is the end game of literature?

Beyond plot, beyond character development, beyond desperate attempts to entertain and humour, beyond sequences of events and behaviour, his book just seems like the answer to the question of what literature can and should do.

Know what I mean?

How do I become a great writer like Paul Schrader?

I'm reading the screenplay to Taxi Driver now and the writing is so vivid that I can see the film playing out in front of me as I read the words.

It's one of my favourite films - I've seen it about ten times - but the screenplay is incredible!

Taxi Driver owes a lot to the diary of the guy who shot George Wallace. Tough to find a reasonably priced copy of that though.
