I've been reading some Soft porn books, basically copies of 50 shades of grey, and I'd like to know how close those books are to the mentality and desires of the regular women, does they really dream and fantasize about it? Does a rich man, with fancy stuff, and who has some "dark past" which kinda hurts them and which is going to be fixed by the girl, is something that makes them excited?
From my experience, no
Women don't want a one-dimensional person, but that's about it

>do women want a fabulously rich and handsome man who owes his happiness to her?

I'm a man but I would be perfectly cool with that scenario too

>instead of globalisation resulting in prosperity and freedom for all, it might actually result in speciation: the divergence of humankind into different biological castes or even different species. Globalisation will unite the world on a vertical axis and abolish national differences, but it will simultaneously divide humanity on a horizontal axis.
>from this perspective, current populist resentment of “the elites” is well-founded. If we are not careful, the grandchildren of Silicon Valley tycoons might become a superior biological caste to the grandchildren of hillbillies in Appalachia

stories is a vague term, but i meant short stories and novellas, not novels, which are talked about often enough as not to be emphasized in this thread.
I'll be dropping LSD in the woods tonight. What ideas/concepts should I contemplate, /lit/?
>>9563885
Let the LSD take you to places. From my experience, you can't really structure and prepare your trip.
>>9563885
contemplate the idea that u are literally seeking validation on 4chan u little shit
I had a weird thing happen in my brain last time I dropped.
I was thinking about that whole "last thursdayism" thing.
I was watching some movie my housemate put on about biblical Cain still being alive as some kind of punishment.
I'm not even religious but thinking about the Bible being a weird misinterpretation of things that we don't understand was freaking me out.
Then I was doing this thing where I was stuck thinking about the world on a geographic timescale.
It was fed by my basic interpretation of scientific concepts that I don't fully understand but it was still blowing my mind.
I dunno, trips are very personal, the only general thing that you could contemplate would be infinity, but that happens to anyone on acid.
I've noticed lately that there's more and more people starting threads about Biblical knowledge and/or asking about how to read the Bible in order to understand certain authors properly.
So I was wondering, for those of you that haven't read the Bible yet (or want to reread it), would you like to start a reading group on here? We could set our own pace (whatever that is, we can poll) and then get together every Sunday and discuss the reading material of the week, ask questions, etc.
I'm only asking because there seems to be a high number of us that have yet to read it, and making it a communal enterprise might motivate people to take up what is, ultimately, a pretty daunting read.
>>9563365
Fuck it, sure. Papa Peterson also started a series of lectures on the bible today starting with genesis
>>9563369
Oh, right. I completely forgot about that.
Also I've made a poll for anyone interested.

>>9563365
Well, it seems to me that there was one or at most two anons who were making the Bible threads. Replies will tell us who many people are interested so we can decide if it's worthy. From my part I am disposed to rereading and discussing since the beginning so you can count on me.
For the sake of the discussion, let's suppose that morality is not a spook. Then tell me, /lit/: why should I be moral?
>>9563351
so you don't get anally raped in prison
Not a Stirnerfag but Morality is such a nebulous and impossible-to-objectify concept that it ought to be abandoned entirely in favor of preservative Ethics.
At least then one can have an empirical argument of formal theory. Unless you accept some unfalsifiable (or worse ideology-driven metaphysical) Platonic notion of Good, you can't quantify Morality in any meaningful way.
Morality is a benelovent self-imposed restriction people use to make sense of the world. Just like we use logic to structurize the external reality, we use morals to regulate our mind. You don't seem to be asking questions like "Why should I act logically? Why can't I just eat my shit and bang my head against the wall?"
>tfw only intelligent and educated enough to realize how ignorant I am
>tfw reading has made it worse
>tfw no firm opinions on anything

Nothing is more satisfying to me than investigating and pursuing the threads of knowledge and understanding I can find, best as I can. So don't get me wrong, but I fucking hate this. I miss being steadfast in my ways. I've always desired to be the one who stands firm and defends what he believes is right. When push comes to shove, how can I "do the right thing" when the right thing is hidden under one of a hundred choices being shuffled around like the ball in three-cup shuffle? How is that any different from being a coward?
Why is this so awesome?
it's not
This is a meme right? I remember seeing it but I never got it

I never respected genre fiction (including Lord of the Rings) until I read the Silmarillion. I still dislike the fact that the book makes you feel like you're studying a history textbook, the complexity of Tolkien's constructed world is truly amazing.
Freud, Marx, and Nietszche are all alike in that they attempted to prove wrong the enlightment idea that everything can be explained rationally. Each made hugely ambitious contributions to their respective fields, as they tried to formulate complex systems of thought that are still being used and worked on today.
It goes without saying that Freud has been proven empirically wrong in almost all aspects of his work, and Marx has been defeated by the highly irrational forces of human nature that he neglected in his philosophies.
However, I have yet to see a complete critique of Nietszche. Is it possible he was the most accurate of the post-enlightenment thinkers? If so, should the political, economic, and psychological work that was formulated with his ideas be regarded as the best? What groups or philosophies have extended his ideas into the modern age?
>>9562709
>still trying to critique Marxist thought through political applications of marxism
it's like none of you faggots encountered so much as a Marxist analysis, let alone actually read Marx. Go to any fucking university class rather than spending your time shitpost in your mother's basement.
it's highly likely that you have no idea of what you're talking about
at all
but you could still read heidegger anyways
>>9562713
You're not answering my question.
Do expand on what you mean, though. I've read a little bit of Capital and his economics seem solid but I fail to understand how his systems would even work in real life. Greed is inherent, I know this because I'm greedy sometimes when I can get away with it. I'm genuinely interested in how this is accounted for by the academics jerking off over Marx.
Has anyone else read this?
It was well written but there literally isn't a a single likeable character in the entire book
/pol/: the nightmare
So what if the characters aren't likeable.
>>9562744
It's pretty hard to enjoy a book in which every character is despicable or pathetic

How do you begin reading books instead of keeping them on the shelf? I recently bought a few more and have them delivered soon, but I don't actually read anymore...
Pick one up and read it, it's that simple, that or don't buy books if you are not planning on reading.
