How can I improve my art?
are you the anon who pretended to be the steak man and asked for critique?
The fuck is wrong with her eyes?
why this board never discuses geometry?

because if full of webs moe face
Trying to do "proper" constructed architechtural drawing with vanishing points, grids and rulers was the biggest waste of time I've ever done. Anyone with a basic sense for space can eyeball that shit with no problem. If your art is full of points and grids and you're doing industrial art where precision is important you're overthinking it.

Because it's full of mediocre artists who symbol draw and spam anime girls. They all hate any sort of actual thinking and post 10 min sketches to showcase how good they are. 99% on this board will never make a living off art because their heads are so far up their own asses.
My friend is way better than me at drawing, and I don't have a problem with that, he dedicated himself years, while I just draw occasionally
But I felt a little bit bad, when I showed him my OC, and he did her way better
I'm glad someone as skilled as him is did my OC, but I feel a bit sad
Is that normal or am I just being socially retarded?

you're not wrong
Seems to me you're still exploring.
Animations, painterly stuff, cell shading
Everything seems rushed in some degree though.
Also don't think you've found a good way to break down human anatomy in simple shapes for yourself.
So the usual advice really:
1: Do a lot of quick body studies (yknow those 60 second things on like quickposes.com)
2: Take your time and finish a bigger picture. Spend at least 8 hours on a single thing and get it as polished as possible.
And show us WIP's along the way in the WIP threads of course.

What do you think guys? Only positive/constructive criticism please, dont be mean.

Hi Anons!
I have recently become interested in art and am currently looking to find some online art archives that I can download from en masse. I would really appreciate it if some cool Anons were to recommend something like that, or even share a there personal collection through mega. In particular I am currently interested in art inspired by Greek and Roman mythology. Feel free to also use this thread to discuss art discovery resources and how you guys sort your art collections.
Thanks in advance to any kind anons willing to help!

Cheers mate, I will see if I can get anything there.
I'm not sure how to fix these things..
I just.. don't like my artwork.. Everything I draw looks like a doodle no matter how hard I try.
Maybe I it's because I'm self taught? I know my anatomy needs work because I can't draw anything besides a shoulder shot I still manage to fuck that up.. My art has been looking the same for the past year or so too, but I'm not too sure how to change it..

Practice.
You arent putting in the hard work
>y-yes i am
No, you're not. When was the last time you sat down for 3 or more hours and really grinded out your fundamentals? How to draw anime books dont count. You need to do this every day, watching a youtube video and then drawing three things is not enough for one day.
i really like how these look but im clueless:
>charcoal and gouache
>can these go on a sketchbook?
(will they smear when i close it?)
>can i carry them around easily?
I feel the charcoal probably because it looks like chalk but i feel like the paint and dirty brushes would be difficult, correct me if wrong
>are they affordable to be spent on shitty art while learning how to draw/use them?
gouache doesnt look like it from looking at wikipedia, but i don't know if maybe it lasts longer than expected, or if it can turn really cost efficient for small stuff, or if there are lower quality cheaper ones that are worth it
just wanna learn new materials and these look lovely desu
>>2925649
Just FYI, there are several types of charcoal that each come in different hardnesses. Vine charcoal is smudgy and very workable, and compressed charcoal can be jet black and harder to move around. Often they are used in combination. "Conte" is charcoal with a wax binder so smudges a bit less but has the same black richness to it and feels nice and smooth, personally I like it a lot, especially on newsprint.
>can these go on a sketchbook?
Yes both work well in sketchbooks. For gouache you need to have thick paper though that can handle water. They make sketchbooks out of watercolour paper that work well for this, or something like a moleskine is good if you don't dilute the paint too much. Charcoal works on just about any paper, though often people like it on textured paper that has some tooth to it.
>(will they smear when i close it?)
Gouache dries very rapidly, and once it is dry it is quite durable as long as it doesn't get wet again. So it will be fine to close and beat up a bit. Charcoal will smudge once you close the sketchbook though if you aren't careful, so you will need some spray fixative.
>can i carry them around easily?
Yes. There's been a lot of posts online written about making gouache/watercolour portable. Nathan Fowkes and James Gurney are both well known for this.
>are they affordable to be spent on shitty art while learning how to draw/use them?
Gouache can potentially get expensive, but it depends on the pigments you buy. It's very possible to do it on a budget. Research limited palettes. The nature of the medium also means that you will be painting quite small so use less paint than if you do oils so it is cheaper in that sense. As with all traditional paints it costs some up front but lasts a while.

very helpful thanks
i have more questions but i think i get to answer those way better by experimenting myself, xoxo
>I'll pay you in exposure
>>2924810
>I need you to do months of full time work on my passion project and practically make it all for me
>there's 500 full illustrations that need to be done in 6 months
>here's a reference of the level of image I want, it's by some guy called Jaime Jones
>my budget is $12 for everything
Any recent examples of this?
>>2924815
If you are any good as an artist you get tons of these from random nobodies all the time. It's not like there's famous examples.
I didn't see a draw thread so I'm going to shit up the catalog
wip, oils, plein air
>>2924541
very quick, like 45 min, only used turps
>>2924541
this was the first layer, which has better colors perhaps but feels less "cohesive". feel free to crit, or something
i'll be back at it when it's dry so looking for opinions
Think I'm finished with this one.
ITT one-off quotes (from books or people you'very known) that changed how you drew things forever
>Accuracy isn't just about knowing how to draw what you have to draw, but also knowing what NOT TO draw that you may subconsciously think you have to
>Struggling to fit something into perspective that wouldn't even be visible from the angle of the picture is a far bigger and more common obstacle than just not knowing what looks like what from an angle
>Don’t just copy from life and photos. Rebuild the object in your mind. Refine it, digest it. It may not be accurate, but it just has to appear accurate. Create your own version

It depends.
How bad do you want it?.
It doesn't matter what your current skill level is. You don't even need to post a picture. If you have the drive to pursue and improve, you have potential. Now fuck off and read the sticky.
That is, unless, you don't really want to get good.
you have creativity, so yes. most people can't get past the regular joe symptom and refuse to draw anything else.
