Daily reminder that when you run a GPU like that nowadays you fucking run a fucking SLI card. Do you know what the fuck 240 WATTS is in normal modern computing? It's inefficient as fuck in terms of energy security. Jesus fucking christ. Have you ever even seen a regular high end card how much it spends? It's rarely more than 150.
Let me educate you on something you stupid shits. When you make a CPU you actually have to try to make it faster. But you make a GPU, that's a different story. It's fucking easy, you slap more cores and make it faster because GPUs are not CPUs. They are not serial machines. They are by definition parallel devices.
Hence in practice NVIDIA **or AMD, just slap more cores into them, essentially making bigger chips, essentially making more expensive chips, very easily and they have to charge more. Not to say the two shits aren't a cartel of gpu patents two but that's another subject. Moar cores works for GPUs, not for CPUs.
And that is why GPUs are extremely expensive compared to all your other devices.

Linux is not a desktop operating system.
There are two desktop use cases: 1. Home use 2. Business enterprise use
In both these cases linux falls short. In home use, software simply isn't available for many home use cases. Performance is abysmal. Permissions are confusing for laypeople. Etc. All of the server parts of the OS ruin the home user experience. In business use the OS fails to be able to interact with standard business software and groupware.
Linux is only useful for serving up web pages on the cheap, or selling web hosting on the cheap. Another use case, although very narrow, is computation in the strictest sense--render farms and data processing--both of which are NOT desktop uses.
In the use case of server, linux also falls short.
Filesharing uses the gimped out SAMBA which is inferior to plain old windows server with active directory. If you don't know why SAMBA is garbage then you don't have enough experience in the enterprise world.
What would you expect from a 40 year old design where the only innovation is copying other systems. (cups+samba, samba, open directory, kerberos, etc).
Linux isn't even useful as a platform for business communications--there is nothing on it like outlook server--and this is a dead basic requirement for the enterprise. There is no groupware, other than Lotus which is complete shit.
There is no unified authentication for remote users either. You're stuck with a mishmash or kerberos, opendirectory, or maybe even radius thrown in the mix. Totally unacceptable.
Most UNIX innovation was done on Solaris, and their best tools aren't even available on Linux --(dtrace and zfs)--and now that Linux has eaten solaris' lunch, expect no future unix innovation.
Every other use case is better served by a desktop OS.

I'm working on porting my game to Linux, which I don't have a ton of experience with, and I'm running into an error I don't quite know how to deal with.
I am using Unity (inb4meme) and the build is running fine on my ElementaryOS installation, but I also have the Unity editor stuff installed on there. My tester is using Kubuntu (latest) and has none of the Unity editor stuff installed.
The following error is generated in the log:Fallback handler could not load library /home/USERNAME/.local/share/Steam/steamapps/common/GAMENAME/game_Data/Mono/x86_64/libudev.so
When he runs a command to see if libudev is installed it says libudev.so.1 is installed, yet the game still errors?
I've looked around the internet for libudev.so to include in my build, but I can only seem to find things like libudev.so.0 and libudev.so.1
Does anyone have any insight into this?

Did you forget it doesn't matter how secure you think your OS is? That all hardly matters when your processor is wide open.
In an interesting story covered by the Australian Financial Review it is revealed that experts think the NSA has hardware level backdoors built into Intel and AMD processors. Steve Blank, recognised as one of Silicon Valleys leading experts, says that he would be extremely surprised if the American NSA does not have backdoors built into Intel and AMD chips. His reason is that the NSA finds “hacking” through backdoors significantly more simple than trying to crack encryption. For example trying to crack AES 256 bit encryption would require the power of 10 million suns to crack at the current TDP of processors. Steve Blank therefore claims that because cracking encryption is so infeasible the NSA uses hardware level backdoors instead. Steve Blank said that these suspicions arose when he saw the NSA could access Microsoft emails in their pre-encryption state and so he knew there was another way in.
So, does anything really matter or what?
