My laptop runs ubuntu. Recently installed a second SSD. It's an M2. My battery life has dropped from 8 hours to 4 hours.
I've never encountered this large of a disparity so I'm guessing this is a configuration problem or something related to ubuntu. Any ideas to get my battery life back up or is my only option to just remove this second SSD?
What do you think on making a text based environment using tools like Screen for window manager?
See >>60133985
I plan on making a few guides to setup manually, like someone would set their source based distro, but for a DE.
Any help is welcome.

Install a program called 'powertop' and see what the cause of the problem is

Currently worthwhile CPUs:
>G4560 for budget builds (<$500) unless G4620/i3-7100 is heavily discounted
>i3 are only worthwhile for dwarf fortress & single-purpose emulator boxes
>i5 aren't worthwhile. Get Ryzen 5, drop down to G4560, or up to R7/i7
>R5 1400 is not worthwhile unless discounted
>i7-7700k is good but bad value. If over budget, an R5 is probably as good or better for you
>R7/Xeon for compute/multitask/mixed use
Currently worthwhile GFX cards:
>RX570, RX480(if cheap & not blower), RX580, 1080, 1080TI
>RX570 is usually all you need for 1080p@60hz
>RX550 & RX560 are worth considering if you just need 6 monitor support for cheap and/or play low end shit
>1060 & 1070 are worth considering if you already have a Gsync monitor. 1050Ti is for mITX builds or if on sale at ~$100
>Nvidia GPU + Ryzen has issues in many games atm (thank you nvidia driver team)
>Budget builds: consider integrated graphics over a card weaker than RX560
>May for Vega
General:
>No brand/model loyalty. Parametric filters on pcpartpicker can help
>Consider larger SSD-only for what you budget SSD+HDD combined. Add HDD later once needed
>NVMe aren't for faster OS boot. They're primarily for productivity as a scratch disk
>mATX can often save cost as the board+case is usually cheaper
>1 DIMM is significantly slower than 2 DIMMs

I need an advice picking a monitor for Photoshop.
Is MVA panel worth going for if i'm looking for good colors and contrast? I'm doing digital art, and i want some good 10bit colors. and while MVA seems to have superior contrast and black depth i heard it's somewhat inferior in color.
I was trying to get myself a 4k IPS panel within 500$ and so far the both monitors i ordered arrived with a dead pixel and i returned them to the store. (i tried Benq BL2711U and HP Z27s )
I found a looks like a great deal
>AOC 32" U3277PWQU
I can get one for 500$ But it isn't IPS, however the tests and reviews are very positive, and it's 32" when others are 27.
Should I grab this one? Am I going to regret not getting an IPS?
I have roughly 500$ to spend on it.
I'll post this one more time
Is this a good build?
Gpu: Sapphire AMD RX 480 Nitro 8gb
Cpu: Ryzen 5 1600
Ram: 4x2 Corsair 3000MHz
Motherboard: MSI Z170A Gaming Pro Carbon, Socket 1151
Case: Corsair CC-9011050-WW
Psu: 550W Corsair
Storage: 1TB for all the shit I need + 120GB SSD for Windows and whatever
All this for 900ish Europoor monei, I just want to be comfortable with everything and not get ripped off
>>60134240
yes
>I need an advice picking a monitor for Photoshop
if it has true 10 bit color than it is good

RX460 vs. 1050 vs. 1050ti
Which 6-pin-less card is best?
>>60134165
1050, but not by much. Alternatively, the 1050 Ti, but by then, you could just spend $50 more on the RX 470 for 50% more performance.
1050ti sc lol r u dumb?!?!?!?! x)
>>60134326
>RX 470 for 50% more performance
But that requries a 6-pin.
Is windows 10 bad for programming and development?
Yes. Absolute cancer. The operating system is openly hostile to programmers and developers.
Visual Studio is trash. .NET is trash. Windows is trash. Unix for life, fuck winfags

Works really well for me and I've had no issues with it yet
i can't be the only /g/entoomen using edge. its very fasy, uses less ram than sjwfox, and does a better job respecting your privacy than botnet google. microsoft's edge team actually WORKED with gorhill to port over ublock origin to edge.
http://www.pcworld.com/article/3149055/windows/popular-ublock-origin-ad-blocker-appears-in-edges-walled-extension-garden.html
It's okay. Used it for a few minutes and I have no real complaints.
gf is a normie that works in an office, had great things to say about edge after their computers forced them to update to Windows 10.
>>60134073
i was very skeptical about it but after doing a fresh install of windows 10 creators update i gave it ago since i was to lazy to download sjwfox. so far i've really been liking it. gpedit has some more configuration options for it. such as enabling developer tools.

Why don't we just make a new board for tech related generals?
It can't be called /gg/ for obvious reasons and /tg/ is already taken
What should this new board be called?

Why isn't there a minimalist OS that is nothing more than a VM host with full hardware passthrough, meant to host multiple guest operating systems that you can switch between without rebooting?
>>60133323
You mean Xen and ESXi? You have a fucking type-2 hypervisor in your screenshot
You mean an hypervisor?

How you feel about internet of things?
>>60133309
Botnet of things is an excellent free resource for russians who want to make a living selling DDOS services and ransom threats.
>>60133309
There is no internet of things. Just shit connected to a server, terribly insecure most of the time.
>>60133309
It'd be ok if the security was better

What is the perfect laptop size in your opinion?
>>60132738
Depends on your usage
>>60132738
13 inch. Any bigger and you're compensating for something
13/14/15 inch. Screen size is nice to work with and isn't a monster like 17"+ laptops.
Where is the cheapest place to get smartphones? I'm after picrel (Samsung Galaxy s6) and I don't see why a 2 year old phone would keep its price like that.
>>60132385
>I don't see why a 2 year old phone would keep its price like that.
Because it was very expensive new, and just because its 2 years old doesnt mean that its outdated or unusable.
Buy it from Swappa, its well worth it.
On a side note, I bought an S6 on launch day and its been shit since day 1.
Just 2-3 days ago the Nougat update dropped.
Android N on the S6 has made it into a completely different phone, it runs better now than it did the day I bought it. It actually pisses me, 2 years of buyers remorse and now its somewhat usable when im ready to replace it.
>>60132437
I've had the opposite experience, my S6 has been a great phone for the last two years but the nougat update made it much slower. I'm thinking about looking for a way to downgrade or maybe do a clean install of the operating system.
>>60132437
Thanks for the reply.
What would You suggest instead of s6 then? I'm looking for something under £200,
