What do you think the best laptop is for developpers /g/ I only want to do some Android software and web-based developping. Also, using some adobe products on the side.
Whatever your company gives out as standard.
You ARE employed, right?
>>60177863
Adobeshit can be taxing (often actually just inefficient) on ssd etc. depending on the product in question.
Developing in general isn't that insane. Decent midrange box with like 4GB RAM will usually be just fine.

>his shit cumpany doesn't have a BYOD policy
Move outta the sticks, kiddo.
So sorry in advance about stupid stuff.
I'm currently learning Java after sort of learning the basics of Python, it's going okay so far, but after some readings, I still don't understand why ispublic class EbinClass {
public static void main(String[] args)
necessary in every code, I'd appreciate some knowledge.
>>60177797
I dont know but it seems that java classed based
and is thus boilerplate-y by heart
false flag.
please go back to masturbating over SICP.
>not knowing the significance of every modifier
>not realizing that main is the starting point
>not making the connection that args is the command-line arguments
wew lad, you're not trying to make this a career are you?
Is there a Linux distro that will actually install properly other than Ubuntu? First time installing any distro alongside Windows 10, and Ubuntu won't install GRUB2 properly so it won't boot.
Are variants like Xubuntu or Lubuntu worth a goddamn, or should I just start looking for another distro entirely?
just use Windows 10 if you're too retarded to google your problem
Distros I have dualbooted with windows 10 without any trouble:
Fedora
Antergos
OpenSuse
SolusOS
Manjaro
Ubuntu
What kind of error do you get?
>>60177730
Install arch. If it fucks up your boot, go back to windows.
/g/entoomen, this is our chance. For years we've been dealing with winbabbys, shills and pajeets on this board. No matter how many "install gentoos" and "I'd just like to interject for a moment" posts we've made, the sheer number of normies treating this board as their personal loo has only increased as these retards not only stay here, but also tell their friends about this "great new place that's just like reddit".
this.ends.now.
Microsoft in all their glory have shot themselves in the foot in a far greater way than they've realized. Today they announced a new surface laptop that, true to it's nature as a surface device, is barely usable for only the most retarded and simpleminded microsoft fanboys and for literally noone else.
This is just the weapon we needed to fight the normie hordes. Today is the first day of the new a/g/e.
Starting today, we will commence
OPERATION SHAPESHIFTER
How does it work? Simple. The new "Microsoft Surface Laptop" is now the officially recommended /g/ device. For anybody. Developer looking to get into machine learning who needs a lot of horsepower? Surface Laptop. Gamer fag? Surface Laptop. "Just need something for grandma"? Don't waste your time with anything else, buy a fucking Surface Laptop. This machine is now the best, most recommended, most viable computer on the market for as long as "So I need a new laptop, /g/" threads are still being made.
In time all these idiots are going to find out just how crappy their new machine is. Since we already know that the machine is disappointing, most buyers will realize the same after using it for a while. When they come back we will be waiting, waiting to say "I told you so" and "install gentoo.".
Join me, /g/, and let's get rid of the normie hordes forever. Operation Shapeshifter starts TODAY.
i did not read this post
SHUT IT DOWN THE GOYIM KNOW
Sage in case normies see.
We also need to be as cancerous as possible, to kick out normieniggs.

>GUYS TELL EVERYONE TO BUY THIS SHITTY LAPTOP SO THEY REALIZE HOW BAD IT IS
Motherfucker - once people invest in something, they will defend it to the end. This is like voting for trump because you didnt think Hillary would be liberal enough.
Jesus Fucking Christ.
MSFT - if you want consumers to buy your surface line then either drop the price to compensate for your abysmal firmware or fucking hire some real firmware cowboys.
What does /g/ think of the hackintosh?

I fucking hate millennials.
I just came back from ars technica, and most of their article names had faggy "upspeak" inflection, like as if a valley girl was saying them.
Whatever happened to men wanting to be men.
Pic is a FNSS ACV30, turkish armored vehicle used for anti missile systems.
Notice the logo on the side. This cannot be a coincidence, anyone care to explain?

The people of the grey wolves will crush europe and usher into a new ottoman empire!
Rise my Turkic brethren! Allahu Akbar!

Wait a minute, is that a fucking M113 chassis hidden under all that?
I'm looking to switch to Linux and some recommendations for an ultra minimalist and clean setup would be nice. Preferably a command desktop and clean file manager. I'm open to all setups and distros
>>60177316
OP, you should know better than to ask anything opinionated on /g/.
>>60177316
Debian minimal install using xmonad w/ xmobar & dmenu.

This, or Arch
also gentoo if you like long compile times
Which linux distro do doctors use?
macOS

In what state are your eyes ?
-How old are you
-How much time per day behind a screen
-Eyes score
> 22
> about 15h30
> 12/10 but hyperopia starting
>25
>at least 10
>don't know but I use -1 glasses
if you want to reduce eye strain make sure to exercise at least 45 minutes a day WITHOUT wearing glasses / contacts
What kind of exercise ?
>>60177228
18
13h
-2.5 on both
Yup.
Now that we have bash on Windows 10... Is there any reason to keep using Linux on the desktop besides lightweight on low-end hardware and 'better privacy'?
>>60177150
There's never been a good reason to use Linux on the desktop
>Can't change the shell colors
Its shit. I can't even read that blue.
>>60177150
Microsoft's EULA grants Microsoft the rights to use any of your content related to the services like Bing, Cortana (a built-in file indexer and search in Windows 10), OneDrive or Skype: "you grant to Microsoft a worldwide and royalty-free intellectual property license to use Your Content". You can read Microsoft's response here which paints everything in a positive light however after Snowden's leaks it's hard if not impossible to take them seriously.

Some cars have cylinder deactivation to improve fuel economy when just doing light tasks like cruising. Do any multicore CPU's have an equivalent? Something to cut processing power/energy usage while you're using your computer as a facebook machine that doesn't wake up all the cores until you start using something processor-heavy?
If not, why not? Is it a technical infeasibility?
Arm does something similar
yes it's called throttling you retard
sure, in linux it's pretty easy to turn on and off individual cpus/cores
there's probably scripts or something that will do it automatically

Can we talk about GNUnet for a minute. Has anyone attempted to port this to windows and other non GNU/Linux operating systems? If this is to take off, there needs to be simple download and extract binaries.
Soon
I just want a nice easy to understand guide to install it on a VM running debian with a super lightweight WM
>>60177114
Write an abstraction so said person on Windows or whatever doesn't need to know anything about GNUnet, just have it install in the background and use the API to do whatever you want.
Debian or Fedora? And why?
