Hey guys, I'm looking to get in shape. I hear that the "starting strength" workout is a great way to get ripped. Any tips or help? Thanks *bows slightly*

oh lordy what have we ere
>early morning brain fog
>post-breakfast brain fog
>mid day brain fog
>afternoon "oh my god it's sunny outside and i need to savour my free time and youth by going outside" existential crisis
>early evening going to the gym
>mid evening realisation that if i wasn't a loser I'd be socialising right now so even thinking about learning puts me above 99 % of the population
>early night rememberance of an article about bill gates working 36 hours in a row in college so i should easily be able to do a full days work from 10 pm to 3 am
>midnight brain fog
>late night false hope for the next day while browsing 4chan in bed
>>41745664
Perhaps you should cut the late night 4 chan browsing
t. autism pro
If you have brain fog for that long then there is an issue in your habits. Bill Gates work output was probably something that increased over time as a result of good habits
>>41745664
have you tried not putting fog in your brain?
to be serious you're either
1. not eating right
2. not eating enough
3. not sleeping enough
4. not sleeping consistently enough
5. dying
if you can get 1-4 sorted go check on 5
>upper torso looks swole as fuck
>lower torso looks fat as fuck
This is a new kind of hell
maybe you should lift weights
Do you guys jump rope ever? What's your routine with it? Is it a warm up, or do you use it as an actual work out? What are the benefits of it? Share your experiences and anecdotes
>>41745657
I do it 4x a week. 6-8 rounds of 4 minutes, 1 minute rest in between, last 30 seconds of each round is a sprint. There's a lot you can do as far as mixing up your footwork, check out videos of boxers who were particularly good at it. I was always inspired by the old footage of sugar ray robinson; he makes floyd mayweather look pretty average at it, and floyd's no slouch either. It'll improve your whole-body coordination, develop your shoulder, hip, and calf endurance, and it's much less boring cardio than running. I recommend it to everyone.
>>41745657
Do it as a warm up for kyokushin. Good for coordination, staying light on the feet and it warms up the shoulders and hips
>Bike thread
>How many of you ride?
Used to, back when I lived in BC. Really fucking fun sport, but I mostly just do cycling now
I ride
>>41746013
What state?
>I'm looking at getting into it myself, but don't know much about the ideal bike setup so still learning before I blow a grand on a bike
Does anyone have experience or insight on how to continue intermittent fasting when your schedule is fucked up? I'm working as a cashier this summer, and I just had a couple days off and wound up giving intermittent fasting a shot. It was awesome and I really like it, but now that I'm going back to work tomorrow, I have no idea how I'm going to make it work.
First off, I can't take my meal break when I want, they just tell me to go to lunch/dinner and I have to suck it up. If I'm breaking my fast at different times each day, how will that not fuck things up?
Secondly, I'm bulking, so how am I supposed to eat a big enough meal in 30 minutes? I had a hard time eating fast enough on my breaks before I tried intermittent fasting.
And finally, if I'm working an eight hour shift and have to eat before that shift just to get enough calories in, isn't that going to fuck up the whole "eight hour feeding window" thing when I have dinner when I get home?
Anyone else struggle with this? Is it even worth trying to maintain IF?
>>41745575
Don't do intermittent fasting when bulking.
It's for cutting. It's pretty much just appetite control.
>>41745585
It still has a lot of health benefits, though. And I can't act like it isn't great when you have a huge appetite like me.
>>41745575
You're over thinking it. Just eat one big meal a day whenever you can.
I use to run with a few people from /fit/ a few years back. Im starting back up tomorrow and thought it would be a good idea to start a thread for us to add each other.
Anyway, you can find me on the app, my email is n.jankovic(a)utoronto.ca
Post you info and ill add you
Wow, spelling mistakes, my bad I popped a sleeping pill and im on mobile.
See you guys tomorrow
This in the USA?
>>41745566
Its universal, just an app you download that tracks your runs and you compete with friends (how much they run, their pace, etc.) You can use it anywhere.
I was reading that half a cup of snot contains 25 calories and the average human swallows about 4 cups of snot a day = 200 calories. Which can easily be double or triple if one is sick.
Should this be counted into the daily calories?
/fit/ is it possible to get ripped if I did only 1 exercise for each muscle every day, or 3 days a week or something?
>>41745426
Just follow a program.
>>41745426
I am doing somthing similar for strenght.
You will need to do more than 3 per week.
>>41745426
Yes, but it will take time, but let me give you a quick rundown how.
That one exercise? MAke sure it is either A.)Something you are so terrible at that any progress makes you feel accomplished, or B.)Something that you excel at or are just naturally gifted at (playing the skin flute does not count).
Next up, make sure it is an exercise that targets multiple body parts (Free Style Swimming, mixed grip pull ups, Farmer Walks, Full Body planks).
Finally, make sure you either do it everyday, or every other day, never anything else.
Oh, and the last and MOST IMPORTANT thing is to always add weight every day, or reps, one or the other, until you have LITERALLY reached the natty limit, which should take a long time, seeing as you will be seeing noobie gains in the first three months.
Now that you know all that, all I can say is best of luck, and honestly, you are probably better off following an actual full on training program regimen that worms out multiple body parts individually, across the span of a week, but you do you, anon.
Anyone with experience taking DIM or ZMA?
ZMA is useless. Just buy Zinc and Magnesium separately. Make sure to include Copper in those.
>>41745438
I've been taking Magnesium Glycenate before bed. Can definitely notice it makes me drowsy, which helps me fall asleep.
Also taking Vitamin d3 at lunch, but not really feeling any different.
>>41745401
When I started taking ZMA I noticed that I slept for longer, whereas before I would wake up after 7 hours and feel like I haven't had enough rest.
I don't take the meme expensive ZMA though, I just buy cheap capsules from a supplement site that have 50 extra mg of magnesium to avoid copyright or whatever.
I'm new to working out. I'm using the workout guide posted in the sticky(3x5 ohp, sqaut, row, 2x5 dips or 3x5 squat, 3x5 bench, 1x5 deadlift, 2x5 dips) with an 80lbs bar, but I have 3 questions.
I was told to rest 2-3 minutes between sets. Does that mean do 5 squats, wait 2 mins, do 5 bench, wait 5 mins, etc.. Or do I do 5 squats, 5 rows, 5 ohps, 5 dips, then rest?
How long should the workouts take?
Should I feel sore the morning after? I'm not.
Soreness isn't a good gauge of how effective your workout is as much as if your PRs are increasing, so don't worry if you aren't sore.
you do 5 squats
wait
5 squats
wait
5 squats
wait
5 bench

5 bench
wait
5 deadlift

5 dips

et cetera
>tfw I realise the cheapest options (fast food, rice, beans, milk, etc) all have the worst impact on blood sugar
>tfw the truly patrician diet is meat for protein, nuts for fats, and green vegetables for carbs
>tfw this is also the most expensive
Sure does rustle my jimmies
fast food isn't that cheap when you crunch the numbers bro
its actually cheaper to buy delimeats and make a couple sandwiches than just eating fast food
>>41745394
Fast food isn't cheap. Stop perpetuating this myth. You can buy a pound of celery for the price of a McDouble. You can buy an entire fucking 5 lb chicken for the price of a Big Mac meal.
Green veggies are cheap as fuck to. Heads of broccoli are like $1 per lb.
Nuts can be expensive depending on the type, but you shouldn't be using nuts as your only fucking fat source. You should have fats coming from things like meat, olive oil, avocados, etc.
Also, green veggies have almost no carbs, generally speaking. Using "green vegetables for carbs" is like using black coffee for protein, since 1 cup has like 0.4 grams of protein.
Go be retarded somewhere else. Preferably a grocery store, so you can realize why you're so fucking stupid.
What do you guys think?
Is a Calorie a Calorie? Or is fasting a stupid meme?

STOP EATING FOOD!

A calorie is a calorie. And you should be mindful of how your calorie expenditure changes with your calorie intake.
Am I at a good point to start pinning? 6'0 211 20yo

you can start if you want but a later age would be safer
What's the best way to get an airborne slot guaranteed in your contract an option 40? or just ask for the slot? or is that the same thing? Figure many of you are active or ex military answer if you can
>>41745196
Just ask for it and don't be a beta faggot.
>>41745196
probably want to go check out the enlistment general on /k/
I didn't enlist in combat arms or as an airborne nigger so I wouldn't be able to say - just ask your recruiter, they'll know.
I think to get a guarantee to be airborne your mos has to be airborne though. Airborne school shouldn't be hard to get into if you just go in as an 11b/11x or something though.
>>41745196
dude get that shit down on paper when you go in, recruiter's lie they have to meet a quota
