Hippie Stan's original plan was to have Charles be legitimately evil, and Magneto as a misunderstood freedom fight. Because at that point in time, School/Establishement = Baaaad & Rioters = Gooood. Obviously that didn't catch on, and Magneto just became the antagonist.

As for why? He's a legitimate speciesist, he always fucks people over and is a hypocrite. You can find "good" traits in him, and he did grow as a character, but he always ends up reverting to his villainous ways. He's a tad better than Doom, but he's an elitist, so...

Back when I was 11-12 and all I did all day was watch cartoons with the language setting switched to English because I'd already watched everything in my native language I actually thought it was kinda neat.

Not really, though I was born in the late 80s so my elders all grew up with and talked about the Hulk tv show and I grew up with the Hulk being present in cartoons and video games

Hulk for me was always one of the most recognizable super heroes, basically superman, batman, wonder woman, spider-man, x-men, and hulk

Simple, make the annoyance overall minor but have the offended character over react to it as it were a heinous act.

Also its good to have the annoying character on occasion not be COMPLETELY annoying and have their good natured and kind actions be not obnoxious on occasion. Also once more...Make them sorry for when they get EXCEPTIONALLY annoying on occasions.

This Joker being shat on was purely a case of NOT MUH. He was the best thing in the show, which granted, wasn't that amazing, but still.

He grew on me over time and he's not nearly as awful as the David Tenant Joker in Young Justice or Jared Leto's Joker in Suicide Squad.

He might have been more popular if they just made him a new character instead of re-imagining an established character that so many people already had high expectations of.
