Do the Couch to 5K thing, it works wonders.

Personally I burnt out real bad trying too hard for a consistent exercise routine that left me slumped in bed and nearly dis-functional for a few days. Take it to a good limit break a few times but don't get to the point where you break muscle and incur a migraine/headache.

I think what's important is keeping at it for the next couple weeks/months. For your questions, yeah it's ok to rest. If you stay with it, 2 miles will become a piece of cake. For me, sometimes it's a mental thing where I tell myself I gotta push through whatever I decided before going out for a run. If you feel actual pain, take it easy. And you still need a plan on how to get permanent residency and become a citizen if said country.

Stick it out in SA get some good qualifications and a nice sum of money before you even look to move.
