What's a good anime for somebody who's really only seen old-school stuff?
I used to browse /m/ all the time before the shitposting intensified, and I've seen a lot of the Gundam, Macross, Gainax stuff. My favorite animes include Armored Trooper VOTOMS, Serial Experiments Lain, Giant Robo, Space Cobra, and those shlocky 80s OVAs like Bubblegum Crisis and Kyoumu Senki Miroku.
The most recently produced shows that I've seen and enjoyed are Samurai Flamenco and Shin Mazinger Z (I know, not very recent). I feel like I've blocked myself into this genre of giant robots and self-aware shlockyness, and I've also got a dislike of cheap digital animation and modern character designs so I don't try a lot of shows.
Can I get some recommendations? I obviously like sci-fi but I'm open to anything as long as it isn't too long [spoiler]I'm getting sick of going through all the 50-episode Gundams[/spoiler]. I'm looking for anime, but I'll even take suggestions for [spoiler]Western live-action shows[/spoiler]. Thanks

It doesn't necessarily have to be mecha - it's just what I tended to watch. I mostly enjoyed the intricate mechanical designs that came with the genre.
Same thing for action. I usually watch stuff with fighting and a sense of justice, but I really enjoyed watching Lain a couple months ago, and there was no real action there. I guess that I'm looking for something with fantastical elements, but also has some sort of message. Though it was kind of flawed, I really enjoyed SamFlam for that sort of stuff.

What are good books to get a general understanding of everything IT. Like stuff you should if you want to go deeper into the matter. Not just CS, general, basic IT stuff everyone knows.

How long do you think it will take for my current battery to die? I always keep the power adapter plugged in because I don't really move around with it at all and keep it stationary but this message started popping up just before Christmas so I'm not sure how long I have left to replace it.
So when I eventually get the new battery do I simply take out the old one and insert the new one in or is there some complicated thing I have to do?

That's all you do.
You can even do it while the PC is plugged in.
If you can't plug it in, you need to switch it off or hibernate it.

If you have a power adapter, it will work fine.
Obviously you won't be able to walk about with it if it has a dead battery.
If you don't have a working battery, and someone trips over the power cord, then you lose your work.
But other than that it will work fine.

I ordered this computer in December of 2015. I game very frequently and I had zero issues with it until around April/May of 2016.
After a certain point my computer would freeze/hang while playing certain games (CSGO on lowest settings, WoW, Rocket League). It doesn't do this for all games (I can run the Division and a heavily modded Skyrim for hours on max settings) but it happens frequently with the ones mentioned. When it freezes, my keyboard and mouse lights shut off and I have to hard reset it. Upon restart there is no error messages and sometimes my Wireless USB doesn't work properly and I have to unplug and plug it back in. When it freezes like this, the fans on the GPU and CPU don't stop and the case lights stay on. Its very inconsistent; sometimes I can go hours while playing CSGO for instance, but sometimes it freezes up 20-30 minutes into playing.
At first I thought it was a temperature issue, but I can't explain why nothing happened the first 5 months I owned the computer. My computer runs hotter while playing the Division then it does while playing CSGO, but after 20hrs of playing it there has been no issue.
I've tried doing a memtest and it came back a-okay.
I'm really lost on what the problem is and if anyone can be of assistance it would be greatly appreciated!

I'm a Help Desk Tech, and alot of our older hard drive issues start with the HDD being a Toshiba drive. Do you have a spare drive you can truobleshoot with?
