Will get new CPU next year, Coffee Lake and Zen2 should be there by then. Also tried to OC memory, it was somewhat stable at 1866 with 10-10-10-24, but after two BSOD I decided to not risk it anymore.

Go into your BIOS, turn XMP on, save changes and exit the BIOS or however your motherboard lists it as. Check Speccy again to see it the overclock was successful.

Next thing is the GPU but if you're still doing fine with a 750 Ti just wait a little longer if you want to get a new one. Cryptocurrency mining is still slightly driving up the price of GPUs.

I feel like I must've fucked up when building my pc because at idle I don't think my 7700k goes below 40C. Is it possible that I could've fucked up how the cooler is mounted to the CPU somehoiw? I did feel like when I was moving the case around after mounting the MB that I might've been pretty rough with it (case would kinda bounce a bit when moving it across the table, sometimes might have set it down a bit roughly when setting it on its side). Should I try remounting the cooler with new paste? I'm also OC'd to 4.8GHz.

I felt the same way when I first built mine. The cpu was touching 80°C all the time under load and I was getting worried. I use a Kraken X62 240mm, at first I used the stock paste but changed it and remounted the cooler and it seemed to do some good. I did some research into how to drop the temperature, deactivated C States and a few other things. You can find a few suggestions on Google. Intel cucked us with the shit internal paste. Good luck bro

I didn't dare overclock when I saw what the temperatures were reaching. Since I reseated the cooler and applied better paste, I've upped it a smidgen but I don't think I'll push it too hard. If you want to get significant increase it needs delidding which runs its own risks. I can only suggest try cleaning your cooler contact, fresh paste and look up a few ideas for how to reduce the load on the cpu. I even heard you could deactivate Hyperthreading but then you defeat the purpose of having an i7.

Yeah, I actually got talked out of buying from Silicon Lottery. Just spent the last 15 minutes fucking around with settings. I was running the preset "game boost" overclock on the MSI motherboard initially, but after messing around with failing some manual settings, the preset began failing too and I started freaking out. But then I just put in the settings manually (multiplier/vcore) and now it works fine, even a few degrees cooler at load now (90 down to 83). I'm scared to mess with it anymore and gonna take this as a win and run with it for now.

If you're on a very tight budget, Ryzen 3 should get you by, however Ryzen 5 is still the better choice if you'll be doing mostly vidya. Right now the R5 1600 is that sweet spot. If you have $200, a 1600 is a great CPU for price/performance. If you have below $200, a 1500X would also be a great CPU but keep in mind it's a 4c/8t processor. While it's slightly better in some cases than an i5, it might not fare you well in the near future in some games.

My pc can make feel better any other toaster owner, as I'd be more than happy to have their "toasters" instead of this.

CPU and MOBO temps are probably wrong, as this pc is set to automatically turn off on it's own if the CPU stays over 60°C for more than 2 minutes, other monitoring tools show lower temps, and it actually turns off when it reaches 61°C according to those tools.

Don't SSD's have a faster read/write rate at the cost of fewer cycles per life? I also heard you're supposed to never defragment them.

thanks anon I'll turn em off and see if it helps.
>>
>>387000638
Defragmenting them is useless since it doesn't change the read/write speed. They do have less cycles, but the lifetimes on modern ones are pretty much the same as on modern HDDs, since higher volume drives have a higher chance of failure.
>>
>>387000826
>since it doesn't change the read/write speed
Or more precisely, since the access speed isn't dependant on where the data is stored on it, unlike HDDs.

>recommend me games that I can run this on at 4K 120fps
Solitaire
Minesweeper

>>
>>387000638
No, and Yes.
Defragging a SSD is pointless since the file can be accessed right away, there is no seeking time.

And the first one is not true anymore, 3D TLC SSDs can be put into stress tests nonstop for 5-6 years and still work with no problems.
>>
>>387000638
SSDs have as long if not longer lifespans than HDDs.
Defragging isn't needed because the data is organized differently than on HDDs, and just causes unnecessary writes.

The SSD meme faggots are just shiposting to get responses.
