The party in my Pathfinder campaign is fighting a Gargantuan size spider with Kraken stats. I planned for it to be a chase but the party decided to fight it instead. They're level 6. Should I continue and just give them the TPK, or should I railroad them into starting a chase sequence to escape?
>>34353408
if they want to fuck up, let them fuck up
>>34353408
Have them cut off a part of it, then it regrows. Describe in detail that it is healing everything they put on it. They can see that it is trying to put itself between them and the exit.
Rule number one of being a DM (though it also applies to any kind of GM, it's particularly relevant in D&D because it's both a high action game and the typical entry game for video gamers - a kind of people who love resorting to violence) is that you shouldn't show someone or something to your players unless you're ok with them trying to kill or take (in all meanings of the word) it/them.
That said, it's hard to advise since we don't know what kind of playstyle you want, what kind of playstyle they want, how experienced they are, how well you got across the danger of this monster, narrative reasons, etc. There's a lot to consider here. I will consider expanding on this reply as I eat my dinner. It's a delicious cheeseburger soaked in ghost pepper chili oil. I have mashed potatoes and green beans as a side.
Pic unrelated.
Without even getting started on balance, what other limitations or problems are there with 40K? What would you change, if you ran the zoo?
>>34318370
Expected game size, especially if you want to pick up IG or Orks
Cut the price down on some or most things. Reboot specialist games
Add more alternative playstyles like Killteam,
Make a release schedule that seems to have more coherency
Put Doomrider back in, with a new model
Update the fucking Eldar Jetbike model
Cooler Codex supplements, like Tau auxillaries, Eldar Corsairs, Lost and the Damned, books that actually add new units instead of just new equipment and stuff.
Plastic Warhound titan?
Awhile back an anon was working on some way of changing 40k with this as the logo every time, anybody have a link to it? Might help, pretty sure he was condensing the game, could be wrong.
Sup /tg/
I'm having trouble against my friend's goths. He always takes the tried and true Land Whale hidden in a unit of wrist spike emos and my otaku's just get wiped whenever they get close. I'm curently running basement dwellers and cosplayers with an internet celebrity in each for the extra Ld. Should I just swap these out for neckbeards with fedoras? This losing streak is getting a bit embarassing.
>>34292605
Why the hell aren't you running Closet Nerd Jocks to counter his Emos? Are you daft?
Also, get a Grrl Gamer. It hard counters the Land Whale, and if you run Closet Nerd Jocks, they aren't affected by her Drama Aura.
>>34292605
Have you tried uprading your cosplayers with modded nerf guns? the emo blobs are only there to get the land whale in combat so some ranged instead of latex swords should help you out. I did the same against a SCAnadian army and it works wonders

Quest time! Here's the deal. You're a student at a prestigious magical university, in medieval times. Whether you're a good student or not, the fact that you gained entrance to this school is a mark of prestige in and of itself. After completing two years of your education, you've settled into your chosen field and you're looking forward to your upcoming exams as a chance to show off your knowledge and ability, when a friend comes up to you and asks for your help performing an intricate summoning ritual. (Alternately, you could do the ritual if your chosen 'major' is summoning).
Something goes wrong, either one of you wrote an inverted symbol or you picked the wrong lei line or something, because instead of summoning an ancient mystic from the past to converse with, suddenly you find yourself in a strange new place where everyone is wearing ridiculous clothes (especially the women), the air tastes like piss, and you swear you just saw a giant metal dragon flying overhead.
Luckily, your friend thought to include a layered translation spell, so you can understand people, but that might not be much help when several people in full armor, including dark black reflective masks, start surrounding you, and you realize you're at the bottom of a small, smoldering crater.
But before we get to the fun stuff lets work out who we are, and get some basic world building out of the way.
Ideas for technology level and your own magic welcome. I was thinking a system based somewhat on Fairytale, where there's action based and item based magic, each with subcategories. Of course, once you pick your focus you're locked in for the ride, as you will ahve to rediscover magic on your own once in the future.
>>34281474
are we getting choices or is this an open discussion?
>>34281527
Open discussion is welcome. If you want choices, My current theory for magic goes like this
I)Action based
Instants, sorcery, ritual.Which are versatile, with increasing power and time needed
II) Focus based
Summoning, enchanting, potions/Alchemy
Of course this is still in the early stages.
Feel free to start throwing out full characters as well
Hey, /tg/. I have some free time, so let's run an unrelated medieval Pokemon quest.
Long ago, the seven kingdoms of the world lived in peace and harmony. However, a dark force soon rose and consumed the world. The wild Pokemon grew rabid and ravaged the countryside and none were safe. A valiant band of warriors arose to combat this new threat - one from each of the kingdoms - and it was only through their ultimate sacrifice that the evil was vanquished. It has been several years since then, and the kingdoms are just now beginning to recover from the losses they suffered, and the new scarcity of resources seem to suggest war is on the horizon.
You are a youth in a small forest village that has grown up listening to the stories of the brave warriors that wielded stunning blades and fantastic spells to combat man and Pokemon alike. Just on the cusp of adulthood, you have decided to set off on a journey to prove yourself, and possibly even become a legendary warrior in your own right.
But first...

can we do trolls? I never see trolls. Trolls decked out in bad ass armour ready to fuck shit up seem awesome. Whether they're cave trolls, mountain trolls or anything inbetween, I really think they have potential and versatility.

What in the fucking fuck is this shit, Wizards?
You had an easy, simple, and intuitive set of encounter-building rules for 4e.
Why the shit has 5e regressed to THREE PAGES of byzantine rules on encounter-building, with several different kinds of multipliers?
Pic related, it's just page 2 out of 3 of the encounter building rules.
It's not D&D if it ain't confusing as fuck. They're just going back to their roots, OP, you can't fault them for that.
>>34094201
Where is this page from? Didn't notice it in the PHB scan?
>>34095038
It's from the basic rules for the DM.
Testing interest in continuing the Minotaur thread from yesterday. Or not, whatever, Anon's choice.
First to three votes wins.
Rules:
1) dice+1d100 in the email field if you want your vote to count; unless otherwise stated
2) Name fagging is encouraged
That's about it. Lets go.
