Every major board has a sticky to help newfags learn the rules of the content of the board.

How's a scrub like me supposed to get rulebooks, recommended tabletops, learn about game lore and not roll a double zero like I'm doing now without a sticky thread that links to all this necessary startup info?

At this rate, I'll never know the difference between The Eye of the Beholder and a swamp ent!

Simpleton, swamp ents are a myth.

You may, however, be thinking of the oh-so-originally named bogyads.

Lurking helps. I spent months lurking before posting in a world building thread.

Lurk more.

/tg/ is such a diverse board that a sticky like that would be massive and need constant updating.

Just lurk more, OP.

I know, right? Like, I'd play the character as having been discovered and taken under the tutelage of a Pentacle Master pretty much right away, to keep them from getting into too much trouble (and control how much they learn so that they aren't actually released from their apprenticeship until they're close to 18 at least) but they'd still be pretty far from well adjusted - and therefore perfect PC material!

Small-points games are only balanced if you can limit the kind of shit you can field. Lots of factions are stuck with shit and others can field Deathstar models snugly between mandatory Troops and HQ.

>Spartan Games is pleased to announce that the much anticipated Halo: Ground Command tabletop wargame, which is set in the hugely popular Halo Universe, will be shipping in Summer 2016.

>The first iteration of the game is set in the year is 2552, with humanity forced to the brink of extinction by the fanatical alliance of alien races known as the Covenant. These human forces have fallen back to the fortress world of Reach, prepared to give their lives to protect Earth and buy time for a desperate gambit that could change the outcome of the entire war. This last bastion of humanity will see countless bloody engagements take place, and you will now be able to command these ground forces in titanic conflicts.

>Halo: Ground Command is a massed battle game using highly detailed 1:100th scale infantry, armoured and aerial models and has been developed in close cooperation with 343 Industries.

>“We’re pretty stoked about the arrival of Halo: Ground Command and we can’t wait for players around the world to experience the fun we have been having as we created the models and core rules,” explains Spartan Neil Fawcett, Creative Director of Spartan Games. “Halo fans are used to seeing ground warfare from a first person perspective, but with this game we step back and embrace the whole battlefield where we see entire Battle Groups engaging with each other. Players can deploy units of Troopers, Grunts, Elites, ODST, Elite Rangers, Warthogs, Scorpions, Wraiths, Ghosts… the list goes on!”

>Expansion plans for the game will see some of the most iconic vehicles from the Halo Universe realised in superb detail at 1:100th scale. “UNSC Pelicans, Covenant Phantoms, anti-air variants of the Scorpion and Wraith tanks, Banshees, Falcons and even giant machines like the Covenant Scarab. At 1:100th scale we have been working with the actual video game assets to make our models as accurate as possible. They are still designed to be gamed with, but we are sure fans of Halo will see just how much attention to detail we’ve lavished on these models,” explains Spartan Chris Peacey, Lead Designer for Spartan Games.

>THE GAME ENGINE

>In much the same way as our spaceship combat game, Halo: Fleet Battles, was created to allow Halo fans to readily embrace wargaming in the Halo Universe, so the ground game is built around smooth and intuitive game mechanics.

>“This is a true wargame that brings together tanks, soldiers and flyers in a hobby format we are sure will see gamers create stunning battlefields upon which they can fight epic games using their stunning armies,” added Spartan Neil. “As we created the rules we made sure that the Halo canon was adhered to, generating those cinematic moments of excitement, and always looked to keep the gameplay fast, intuitive and bloody.”

>A key part of the game play is the Reaction Engine, which means a unit is never safe from harm by an enemy unit. Players will need to keep their wits about them when deploying their forces and constant vigilance as a battle unfolds will be rewarded by victory!

>Investigate
As far as ideas went, investigating the hulk on the horizon seemed like a good idea. The catch was both getting there.
“Sir, we’re losing oil pressure!” one of the “engineers” told you, gazing down at the control panel like it was going to try and kill him.
“Fix it!” you roared down to the now-open air engine compartment. They just banged wrenches faster. Sighing, you leaned back on the bulkhead rail and rubbed your hair. This was not going well. As the engines caught and died in a black cloud, you snarled.
“Fix it or there’s no shares! Move!”
In truth, you disliked being this barbaric, but it was currently almost your only option. The other option, appealing to the group’s collective collegiate and pseudo-Greek élan, was NOT happening. In the words of Machiavelli, if one had to be loved or feared without being both, pick feared. Right now, an old Luger and a set of knives kept the fear going, as well as the conscientious objector strapped to the bowsprit like a demented figurehead.
“Sir, got the oil back, but the radiator is shot! Can we build a replacement?”
Dear god, one of them could use their heads? Hello, potential mate!
“Yes, get moving!”

It was maybe four nautical miles to the ship, silhouetted against the horizon. While you were not a professional seaman, you were smart enough to know that it should not take the better part of two days to sail somewhere you could freaking walk to if you weren’t on water.
Oh well. When you finally got close enough, you grinned slyly. It was a motor yacht, about ten feet longer than your current joke-boat. More importantly, you could feel it calling to you.
“Take me” the sultry craft said, smiling. “Make me yours… Captain.”
Shaking your head, you went to find the small girl you had saved. She liked to play chess for some reason, and you needed to clear your thoughts.
“You, smart person who built a radiator.” You said flatly.
“Yes?” he replied, dumbstruck.
“You have the watch. Don’t fuck up my boat.”

One fairly good game of chess you lost later, you looked back at the yacht. It was about forty-five feet long at the waterline, no obvious zombies, and nothing remotely conspicuous about it.
Therefore you were paranoid as all fuck. If you boarded, something was bound to go wrong, as this particular ship had Murphy’s Law written all over it in big red ink. Oh well- that’s what you had the meat shields for. If they each had a knife, that should be enough for them to either work together or stall long enough for you to cap the zombies fairly efficiently. Alternatively, you could just leave, and pass this boat up.
Decision Time.

I've asked this question a couple times in the past, and gotten some good answers, but I'm still dissatisfied with the general attitude that /tg/ has on the subject.

Clearly, freeform is different from most systems, in that there is a large degree of self-moderation involved. You are not limited by dice, or classes, or stats for the most part, and this can lead to abuse if the people with whom you are playing are not of the highest caliber. At the same time, these same factors provide for unparalleled freedom and flexibility that is simply unattainable in other systems.

I posit that freeform is the purest form of gaming, as it is at its core a way to collaboratively and interactively tell a story with others.

I would love to have everyone's thoughts on freeform, your experiences, and strategies to promote the development of better roleplaying across all systems.

The issue with that is that someone could feel like their story is much more important than that of another and push it into everything.
>>
>>46229630
I agree that this is certainly an issue. I suppose that it is the duty of the GM to enforce reality upon the expectations of the player. Having different aspirations isn't necessarily a bad thing, but if you're reducing another player's enjoyment of the game, something is wrong.

This certainly occurs in other systems, but it is mitigated by the limitations of the rules enforced by the system. That being said, powergamers and mary-sues still exist outside of freeform. Perhaps the answer is for the GM to encourage player to adjust their perspective, and recognize that having other players to contribute to the story is the best way to develop the depth of his own character?
>>
>>46229565
>but I'm still dissatisfied with the general attitude that /tg/ has on the subject.
Good for you.

>I posit that freeform is the purest form of gaming
Objectively wrong - freeform is not gaming. Games have rules. Freeform is role playing but it is not a role playing game.

/tg/ used to be way more hostile to freeform, but that's slowly dwindled as /tg/ has accumulated quest fags and other layabouts who don't actually play or care about tabletop games.

A new rule if I miss a game day I will offer either a free fate point OR an extra day of game running. Anyway I just got back out of some surgery and sorry about missing last week and this tuesday. So to compensate there will be a marathon session.

Brood Actions are based upon civ mutants so if you want an idea of that is like look it up. Thanks to you owning a Brood World you gain 1 upgraded brood action per a turn. Should brood not be in use expect them to be very unpredictable as their default orders.

As for the Corp actions...just look at the civ actions for them too. As I am still trying to figure them out. Sadly for military forces I have yet to find something steady that could work for them.

Anyway last time Petyr was getting his SCIENCE! on while Abigail proceeded to kick ass. Things were going great until the dead world was shattered and shown to be hiding some very nasty surprises.

What do?

Well Abi should keep on kicking ass in commanding skills or otherwise.

Petyr is to take a break, find some crazy friends. Lead them and the other troops into turning this dead world into something worthy of a 'mad' person's lab.

Brood is to work on upgrading for robot warfare. Then help keep working at ending this conflict.

Corp CEO should keep on making the Mega Corp real.

Military forces are to join the brood in finishing the planet take over.
