Heroes

Lady Camilla Everbright- The legendary beauty of the midlands, master arcanist and our glorious vampiric leader
Palmetto- Mysterious wanderer and master swordsman
Giles- Mercenary captain from the city-states, skilled in combat and tactics

Settlements

Main settlement(unnamed)- lays on the western side of the river, heavily fortified with walls, keep and an underground lair.

Our main settlement has around 300 people in it

Buildings

Large farmsx2
Iron minex1
Smithyx1
Lumber campx1
Library
Arcane Lab
Dark altar(in lair)
Keep
Homes(we have extra for future population)

Northern town/fort
fortified with high walls, set near the old Dwarven imperial highway. They operate a few farms and have a population of around 50, not including the garrison of the fort(between 30 and 100 men, 30 during peacetime)

Our total population runs around 550 people with 55 vampires, the rest are our human thralls, free minded humans and various other servants.

We also control a vampiric Orc who has infiltrated the orcs of the far north and currently leads a warband 50 warriors strong.

We are currently closely allied to the elves, who are ruled by a militaristic leader, their current Archon is Narkos, a renowned mage and warrior

They rule a small town and have a small defense force consisting of rangers

We also have friendly relations with the Dwarves, but have had recent trade disputes due to their undercutting our metalcrafters in local markets.

The Dwarves control a massive Empire and command thousands of troops, their coffers also run deep, allowing them to field large numbers of mercenaries to exist their standing armies.

We have recently established relations with the City-states establishing a trade route by sea

Their relative strength is unknown, but we know they were badly beaten by the Dwarves in a recent war

Question /tg/, how often do your players and DMs do voices to indicate when they're speaking in character?
How hard do they try? Does each player have a clear personality behind their voice, or is it just the standard "slight British accent" thing I hear so often?
I'm very curious. Also feel free to post stories about people doing a very good/crappy job at their voices.

Character voice thread I suppose

>>46244045
I'll start with an example from my group. We have one player who does amazing voices, and many of them sound completely different. We often joke that he should pursue voice acting.

>Surly Knight character= A gruff yet slightly posh accent as well as intense amounts of eye contact

>Weird Arab themed thief/rogue= sleazy sounding middle eastern accent with lots of chuckling to himself and wordplay

>Hyper-cliche, Gandalf esque wizard = really good old man voice, as well as trailing off mid conversation to talk about shit he remembers from when he was young
>>
>As a DM
I try to always voice the characters. I'm not terribly good at accents but it gets the job done. Major problem is finding different accents for different people in a region.

One of my last sessions was based in Oklahoma. The group met maybe 4 or 5 male adult NPC's and I struggled to find variation in them.

>As a character
My current character in one my games is an Australian, and I don't even bother with him. If I don't do an accent as a player I'll try to at least have the tone down according to the characters personality.

Some say "my character says x, y, z." Some speak normally. Some make a token effort at a broken accent. Some break into full voice acting, complete with fantasy-racial mannerisms and such.

I try to give all of my characters a unique feel to them, voice and sayings is the best way to do that. Right now I'm playing an Imperial Nazi Arch Militant with Hatred of Mutants who is my best attempt to imitate Hans Landa. I played a Minotaur with a deep southern accent in Shadowrun, who called everyone 'Beef Jerky', but was immediately offended when white humans said it, in addition to being offended by steak houses, leather, cow print, etc.

It's hard to come up with those accents and characterizations on the fly while DMing, though. A lot of unplanned NPCs end up extremely generic or over-the-top racist.

Why is there this place underground? Was it a castle's old dungeons? An ancient city's sewers? An old, abandoned mine? Dwarves? Lava-tube? Is it an old, haunted manor instead? Did some rich, crazy asshole decide he wanted a secret underground ruin? An ancient underground city?

Frankly, why are people just going off and building dungeons, populating them with monsters and traps, and then fucking off for a thousand years?

It's a cold morning, with dew forming a sparking carpet across the charred grass, and the chill of it makes your body ache. Then again, even the hottest day of the year wouldn't have been enough to ease the pain from your abused body.

Bruises and light burns, however, are infinitely preferable to the canvas of nightmarish injuries that Tawn had been left with. Near enough to the entire right side of his body lost to the flames, and that was far from the worst that could have happened. He was lucky to survive – many others lost their lives last night, the traitor responsible for the trap among them. Musari, his treason nurtured by bitterness and spurned ambition, had sought to lead the Emperor's representative into a deadly trap, while his cultist allies stole him away to safety.

When their plans had been drawn, the cult did not guess that you would have been here. An oversight, a fatal weakness that might just lead to their downfall. You know how to find them, now, and you've got little to hold you back.

Like a careful, capable hunting hound, you'll chase them to the furthest corner of the land if you have to.

The outpost town is smouldering, the burned remains of buildings still casting faint pillars of smoke into the cool air, but there are signs of life at least. Soldiers, many of them bearing wounds or the haunted eyes of disbelieving survivors, pace around in loose patrol. Seizing the first one you see by the arm, you ask to be pointed to whoever is in charge. There are matters that need to be discussed.

From the moment you meet him, you know that Takino is not one of Ra's carefully picked agents. A military man, through and through, he claims to be the overall commander for the entire south-east. Things are heating up, it seems, if he is here personally. A humourless man, his eyes and hair the exact same flinty colour, Takino rarely looks up from his papers.

“Moriya has been sent to Garuna for medical treatment,” he begins when you arrive, cutting off your first question, “From there, he'll be taken back to the capital. I don't know what will happen after that – I assume he'll find some comfortable job behind a desk. There was a man here, a prisoner,” Takino changes track seamlessly, finally glancing up at you, “Your doing?”

You're the one that took him prisoner, you confirm, has he said anything else?

“He has spoken,” Takino gives you a slight nod, “Most of the men that attacked us came from a nearby village, called...” a rustle of paper as he checks his notes, “Sparna, I believe. In either case, the matter has been taken care of. I sent troops to deal with it as they saw fit.”

You don't like the sound of that.

“So,” Takino offers you a cold smile, “What can I do for you, Wanderer?”

Why does /tg/ love dreadlocks so much?

It seems like there's just some people who can never stop talking about dreadlocks, and they want all of their characters and all of the villains to have dreadlocks.

Is it because they looks so distinct and fun? Or is it because dreadlocks are always near the top of the list of "Most Attractive Hairstyles"?
Is it some sort of anti-establishment political statement? Does this rampant dreadlocks worship actually stem from a desire for less bureaucracy?

The important questions:

>Have you ever hosted or played in a nonstandard setting? What are it's challenges?

The personal comments:

I've been toying with an underwater setting. I might claim writers block but I can't decide on some things. For humans I can imagine humans becoming what they are when they discover fire, and therein the ability to efficiently break down food outside their bodies. Do merfolk have a legendary moment like that? What allows them to become intelligent in the same or similar way? Am I asking the wrong questions, maybe I should have asked another board. I don't want to handwave this, but its at least interesting to think about.

On a more important note my potential Burning Wheel players are pushing for a mega-city setting. Ravnica springs to mind. I've not GM'd before, and I'm inexperienced (for lack of a better word) in that I've never really played with a good group. As far as I know everyone in my group is inexperienced in the same way. I guess I'm not sure what to ask in regards to this. I think I just want more stimuli roughly around these subjects so I have more to think about.

Sup /tg/, share your stories of stupid people at your games.

>be DM
>players are in one of the richest cities in the kingdom
>its morning and all of them go in the centre of the first district to buy consumables and repair equipment
>sorcerer gets lost
>starts to search for the monk in their group
>rolls a 1
>I tell him: "After about 1 hour of searching you end up in the shittiest part of the district, to your right is a shady pub, your senses tell you that you should get out of there as fast as possible"
>him: "I enter the pub, maybe I'll find the monk there"
>lol wut
>he enters
>I tell him: "When you enter the stench of beer stained wood fill your nostrils and bunch of shady looking people turn their heads towards you and stare with their bloodshot eyes"
>him: "I start looking around for the monk"
>rolls another 1
>I tell him: "You catch the gaze of a really intimidating thug, one of his eyes is missing due to a cut across his eye socket, he gets up and shouts at you "What the bloody hell are you starring at boy, piss off!" while he takes his dagger out of his belt"
>him: "Sorry I was just just looking around the bar for my friend" and he remains there
>I tell him: "Your friend aint here, and your instincts tell you to run as the man approaches, stopping right in front of your with his dagger pointing towards your chest"
>him: "I try to intimidate him by leaning into his dagger"
>I stopped, everyone stopped
>paused the game and went for a smoke
>returned and asked him again "What are you doing?"
>him: "I try to intimidate him by leaning into his dagger!"
>Instantly killed his character

I'm still wondering what the fuck happened that evening

seriously though:
>party has an audience with the king after slaying a small dragon
>describe the throne room and people therein
>second i get to the princess the bard pipes up
"I rolls to seduce the princess."
>everything goes quiet
>mage player just blurts out
"WHY?! Whywhywhy?!"
"Its perfect see? I hit her up and we marry. If she doesn't fall in love i can at least knock her up and she HAS to marry me! Bing bang boom we get a fucking castle AND a nation."
>uh-are you sure?
>YES.
>okay...roll.
>2
>you shout across the throne room loud enough for everyone to hear and proposition her on the spot
>the king is NOT happy about this
>panics and for some reason panics and shanks a guard to escape
>rest of the party is smart and gets arrested with no fuss and is later released after they make a case that they are individuals and not wholly representative of the group so are not responsible for the bards actions and his actions should not reflect on them
>meanwhile
>bard in his wild escape attempt shanks a maid and steals her clothes leaving behind her bleeding out body in the hall
>guard follow the blood trail from the clothes he was attempting to wear as a disguise and makes another run
>bard dies naked as he gets cornered in an indoor park inside the castle
>party was released but is no longer welcome in the kingdom

The player insists his plan was flawless at every step and the only thing that brought failure was the dice.

Now, I had to really quickly look up the detection spells to find out how much evil would be overwhelming, and what the effects should be. Obviously, he was facing down about 30-50HD of evil creatures, creatures with evil descriptors, and literal demons. Not to mention he was in literal actual Hell. And, though I wouldn't hold it against him for not knowing, he was currently within the personal space of a potent god of evil. I was well within my right to simply declare his head exploded, but wisely decided to just have him stunned.

If it comes from the warp it's a Daemon
Enslavers are just Daemons that aren't aligned with any god
>>
>>46240156
Wrong.

The Enslavers are physical creatures with flesh and blood. They are not made from emotional energy. They can exist naturally in real space with no issue.

They only spend a part of their lives in the Warp. This suggests that they are not native to the Warp.

"Nate, guard the door," you tell him. You dig your freshly-restocked case of cigarettes out of your coat with a heavy sigh and take one of the horrible smokes from it. "From now on, I'm the only smoker you have to worry about," you promise. "I'm nice, even if my tobacco isn't."

"You need to leave," the elf man begs, again.

"Not just yet," you tell him. You light your cigarette and take a deep drag that you let out through your nose. "Those chains on the far side, they're trapped?"

The man nods. "They clamp around your neck and deliver a sedative."

"Efficient. My name is Brianna la Croix. I'm here to make the Roost right again."

"...Rowan," the elf man says, shakily. "Formerly of the Cornucopia."

"Elves aren't common in the Dungeon," you observe.

"There's been more of us of late, to our detriment," Rowan murmurs. "I can tell you more about it later. Lady la Croix -"

"Bri," you correct, mildly.

"/It is not safe here/," he begs, again.
