All right, a bit of a challenge for you gents. Has anyone on /tg/ played this game, and if so, do you remember enough of it to use it as the basis of a campaign setting?
I've played this game in passing, and it's ball-bustingly generic. The game was basically XBOX's answer to Zelda, and the plot and setting are very straight forward. The focus of the mythos is on the four elements (earth, fire, air, water) and with a couple variants (ice, etc), to the point that each element has its own realm you can travel to (on foot, no less). Azurik is a young elemental guardian, tasked with maintaining balance. One of his colleagues is corrupted by the lust for power, and he steals the plates that represent each element from the central temple where everyone lives. Azurik had to take that glaive that channels the elements, run around and recover the plates, and beat the traitor's ass.
I cannot stress enough how generic the game is.

Holy shit, I remember this game.
Barely. Because it wasn't good.

Is there anything to salvage in this basic-as-fuck setting?
You're in charge of designing the board game with the thematic of 4chan.
How would you do it?
Would you make every player the Opening Poster and make a player shitpost all other OPs while maintaining a quality thread?
Would you do a meme contest? e-penis contest? Waifu threads? Board creation so you could contain cancer to certain boards and keep other boards cleaner?
How would you aproach this, /tg/?
>>46223658
(1/2)
Each player picks a board (each 4chan board gets a miniature game board). This is their home board. On their turn, they roll and move exactly that number of spaces on their non-directional board. Each of these boards has a path leading off of it on either side that will send their token to another player's board. In this way, players will all travel on the same large, disjoint game board together.
The goal? Earning generic victory points. Maybe we'll call them memes or something. Meme points will be different colors to indicate which board they were obtained from. Each board has some techniques for getting meme points. For instance, /s4s/ might have instant, rapid meme production for an early lead, but be less potent in the long run when all the foes are getting high-value memes worth many, many points. Each board also has an event deck. When you land on an appropriate space on such a board, you draw an event card. The events vary from really nice gets to board-specific ones like "half life 3 finally comes out" for /v/. Each board will also have 3 special boon cards ranked 1st, 2nd, & 3rd (depending on the # of players, 2nd and 3rd may be removed). Whoever has the most meme points from that board gets the 1st boon. 2nd gets 2nd & 3rd gets 3rd. An example boon might be: /tg/ - 1st boon - Any time you have to roll a dice, you can re-roll it ones. If a single roll contains multiple dice, you can choose which ones to reroll. /tg/ - 2nd boon - Same as first, but if the roll is multiple dice, you must re-roll them all. /tg/ - 3rd boon - You can re-roll at most 1 die per turn. There's also a home board boon given to the player who has that as their home board. Unlike the 1st, 2nd, & 3rd boons, this can never be lost.
>>46223912
(2/2)
Between collecting boons & going to various different boards to get their hot memes, you get include the board culture of many different boards while also offering a fairly diverse array of victory tactics. Also, because you only include the game boards / event decks / boons for the boards chosen by the players, each time you play might be pretty different from the previous. Even seating order will matter since the boards you can most easily get to will be the adjacent ones.

collect memes and win e-penis points.

ITT we help each other out with character ideas. When asking for advice, remember to tell what setting you're using.
DnD 5e
I want to make a character with the entertainer background that isn't a bard. I was thinking a disgruntled jester gone rogue could be fun. Maybe a half-orc assassin. I think the assassin/jester trope is kind of overdone though. Any other ideas?
Bumping with character art and taking requests for such.
Hey guys ! I want to get into W40K. I was thinking about taking Orks because they look cool. But before that I have a couple of questions and request. As I think lots of you are into W40K, I figured you could help me out.
I know nothing about W40K so help me out here.
Is it really a P2W ? Is it THAT expensive ? How much would it cost to make a decent army ? Paint included ?
Is it really hard to paint them ? I am no Raffaello. My gf is really good at art stuff tho so she might help me out with that.
How does it work to play ? Do you guys play in LGS, carry your army with you in a box ?
Also, as it's expensive I want to be sure about the army I choose so I want to read the codexes. I think I understood there is a codex per faction. Where can I find pdfs of those codexes ?
Thank you very much for you answers.
This post has so much bait to it even Tzeentch would be hard pressed to do better but fuck it.

I swear I wasn't trying to bait... If I broke rules I am very deeply sorry, I just always feel like answers from anons always feel better than reading the general.
Thank you still.
Give the noob a brake people.
It is expensive, though it is not P2W per se - depends on the players in yoir area. Despite what naggers say, most ppl play wargames for fun. Same thing gpes with army cost - depends on the country. Though as a noob you should start with either a battleforce or some used stuff from e-bay.
Painting well is tough, paintinf just so to be able to play is not. This one actually is a stupid question. Same as the next one - yes, you do carry your army in a fucking box, how else would you trabsport it?
Codexes are on the torrent sites. Orks are due for an update so wait until then if you want the greenskins.
Looking for a pdf, star wars rpg stuff that my friend is getting us into. This just came out like a week ago but Im hopeful, /tg/ where you at?
I'll look if I can find a copy.
>>46222727
Okay so what exactly are you looking for? I can pretty much only find the core book and "Lure of the Lost"
>>46222727
There seems to be only one guy who scans in these books (because the licence does not allow for PDFs). Unfortunately he is suffering real life and computer issues - has been for a couple of months - so he's only done the main book for Force and Destiny. No one else seems to want to buy and scan these because he does such a great job.
Unfortunately this means that you're not going to find any more FFG Star Wars books for a while.
Sorry!
Oh, he's on torrents - Neuromaniac - for you to check his updates.
So, how would you make a pre-established party to join a inquisitorial/witch hunter organization?
>>46221572
Story-wise the inquisitors would have looked for the kinds of specialists their organization needs and recruited them to the party so this allows (game-wise) the players to make the kinds of characters who come from diverse backgrounds and might not normally work together and there is no need for them to know each other beforehand (though the players can make characters who already know each other if they wish.)
I really like this kind of reason for the existence of the party. You see, I want there to be a reason for the PCs to team up and work together rather than just some DnD adventurer eggs hatching in the same clutch and deciding to stick together. Since an organization such us Inquisition (whether Warhammer or some other setting) is a large organization it can bring together all kinds of people as long as they have a motivation to work for the inquisition. (Depending on the setting "they threatened to burn me alive if I refuse" may be the motivation.)

Have you tried playing games other than fantasy? I mean, in a techy setting a smart character who's not into fighting and where magic doesn't exist, should be way more common.
Does the tacit possibility of rule supracession effectively efface the underlying rule framework presupposed by deviatory cards, or does every escape from the framework reinforce the ontological status of the hypostatic skeleton? Can the centrifugal exist without the centripetal?

"Neo-gothic mytical" sounds like a really cool (as in marketable) pitch for a setting
Hey /tg/
I seem to remember a world building game posted on here a while back, which was divided into "epochs" or "eras". Is it on id4chan? Does anyone know where I can find it?
Thanks!
>>46220425
holy fuck you made me remember I must continue to create my own RPG sytem based on that
You're either talking about Microscope or Dawn of Worlds.
>>46220425
Dawn of worlds?
Don't have an english version. Only a translation
Hey /tg/, a little advice perhaps from DMs who have done it.
So basically I'm GMing the final session of this arc and the climax is the party climbing this huge tower where at the top stands the avatar of the God of Lies whose ritual they need to stop because reasons. This avatar however isn't so powerful physically since he's in mortal form, so in order to provide a challenge and make things interesting for the finale, I wanted to try and turn the players against each other sort of like he's whispering in their ears and "revealing" secrets to them about each other that will cause their trust to break down. What I'm wondering is how to go about this especially when it comes to providing the different players different information. I don't trust my players enough to not metagame so I have to sort of manipulate them in real life as well.
The advantages I have is that this avatar is actually my old player character who became the villain after I betrayed them and left at the end of the last arc (DM needed to go overseas so he needed me to replace him) so there's precedent for in party betrayals. Also due to some very poor decision making last session, they came very close to a TPK which may make it seem like some of the players are actively trying to cause their downfall. Lastly, one of my players picked up an artifact that used to be owned by the God of Lies and attuned to it and everyone sort of assumes (in game and out) that he's going to use that in the climax to take control of that player's mind when the time comes.
Basically /tg/, do you have any advice for handling asymmetric information, sowing distrust among players etc? Advice and/or your own stories are welcome.
Sounds like some funky ideas, see if your players are on board with the whole betraying everybody, then make sure the other players would be down with role-playing it out "BUT YOU WERE MY BROTHER ANAKIN" style, the final encounter can be an awesome role-playing opportunity as well as a cool combat
>>46219732
Now see the thing is I don't actually intend on them betraying everybody, but I do want the paranoia to slow them down so the evil ritual can continue as long as possible.
I was thinking of mentally pairing up each player (I have 8) with another and telling them that the other has been corrupted by something or another (of course there's no corruption at all) so that when they try and "help" each other overcome the "corruption," to the other person it'll seem like they are the one who was corrupted. For example:
>Player who attuned to the God of Lies artifact is paired with the paladin. This player also happens to be holding the Macguffin that the party intends to reverse the ritual
>Tell the paladin that the Macguffin player has been corrupted by the artifact and that in order to help them, they have to remove the Macguffin and the artifact
>Tell the Macguffin player that the paladin is a double agent and is just trying to get rid of the Macguffin so it cant be used to stop the ritual
>Neither player can trust the other player
Then I was going to have it culminate in a trap which involves two players having to trust each other in order to get through safely.
Turning the party against each other usually sounds like a great idea when you are GM, but will always 100% of the time end up with real-life butthurt and rage between your players. No one will have fun but you, it may even break your group up.
Don't do it. It sounds like a decent premise for a climax, but it is not worth it
So I was wondering, how awful would it be if your DM were to introduce Hitler into your world?
Like if the DM suddenly made Hitler show up out of a magic portal or a god of something threw him into your dimension
I am planning on doing it to see how the party and their jaded morals react to him
Oh this is also under the implication he can speak English/common of the setting

A 3 year old could probably come up with better bait.
Does anyone here play Dominion?
I used to play it with some sets.
Fun game, but the basic set by itself kinda sucks and feels like it forces you to get the more advanced ones. Intrigue is the better starter as long as you understand basic strategies quickly.
I own basic, Intrigue and Dark Ages and so that's all the 'basic' big sets without any addons besides the Ruins.
The problem with just basic is that strategies that are better than just straight Silver Rush are limited.
>>46219117
so regarding a first buy you'd recommend skipping the basic set altogether? also silver rush = big money?
>>46219165
oh right yeah, I forgot the name of it. Silver rush = big money.
Intrigue is a good enough start unless you're superdumb. It's good to mix in the basic cards, but basic by itself gets boring pretty fast.
Dark Ages is almost a complete set on its own, but its cards are pretty damn complex so I wouldn't recommend grabbing it until you're more familiar with other sets and card archetypes.
How do Perform: Comedy bards work?
They give their teammates superpowers by making them laugh?
>>46218949
>>46218949
They make the enemies laugh so hard that they start fucking up their attack rolls.
Once they are a decent level, they can make enemies laugh so hard that they are stunned or lose any will to fight.
On advanced levels, they literaly make you laugh yourself into unconciousness.
Epic levels make you laugh so much that you suffocate.
>>46218990
Alternatively:
The jokes are so bad, you allies get an attack bonus, because the faster they kill the enemies, the faster they can slap you and make you shut up.
A few levels up, your jokes get so bad, that the enemies need to make a Will Save to keep attacking your teammates instead of you.
Advanced levels have you say jokes so bad, that they inflict pain to your enemies.
Epic level bad comedy makes a stage appear around you and you start making shitty voices with a turbaned skeleton puppet.
>Arthurian epics are part of modern pop culture because of a Romanticist revival in England
>There was no equivalent revival of Carolingian epics in France or Germany
How would the fantasy genre be different if there had been a Carolingian revival as well? Or maybe only a Carolingian revival instead of the Arthurian one?

Read "Three Hearts and Three Lions" by Poul Anderson.

>The novel influenced the role-playing game, Dungeons & Dragons, especially the original alignment system, which grouped all characters and creatures into "Law" and "Chaos".
I didn't know that. Neat.

Trolls, Paladins, and Law/Chaos alignment seem like a pretty diverse and palpable legacy for a book to leave.
